In Pictures: Delhi Capitals' 2023 season had few positives to reflect upon

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had to win their face-off versus defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last league stage game of IPL 2023&nbsp;on Sunday evening (May 21)&nbsp;to book the vacant fourth spot in the playoffs. Despite a sublime 61-ball 101 not out from Kohli,&nbsp;three-time runners-up RCB failed to defend 198 in the must-win game. Riding on the back of Shubman Gill's 104 not out, GT beat RCB&nbsp;by six wickets&nbsp;in Bengaluru.

Thus, RCB faltered once again in an IPL season. In 16 editions, the Bengaluru-based franchise has played the final thrice (in 2009, 2011 and 2016) and featured in the top four in&nbsp;eight seasons. They remain one of the three franchises -- part of the IPL since its inception in 2008 -- to have not won the elusive trophy. Kohli, who has been part of the RCB franchise since 2008, has time and again revealed that he has no intentions of leaving the Bengaluru camp, but former England captain Kevin Pietersen shared a bold suggestion for the ex-Indian captain. He wants Kohli to play for his home franchise, i.e. the Delhi Capitals (DC).

"Time for VIRAT to make the move to the capital city! #IPL," Pietersen tweeted.

'Time for...': Kevin Pietersen suggests Virat Kohli to join THIS franchise after RCB's IPL 2023 ouster

Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner had an awful season as his team not only failed to qualify for the playoffs but only managed five wins in 14 matches. The Australian, however, had a great season with the bat as he scored more than 500 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and hit six fifties as well.

Warner is also the sixth-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 516 runs at an average of 36.86 but with a slower strike rate of 131. Warner's slower strike rate, however, can, in part, be attributed to the failure of other batsmen, including Prithvi Shaw who failed miserably this season.

<h2>Warner sets the record straight</h2>

David Warner, who scored 516 runs, crossed the 500-run mark in the IPL for the seventh time - the most by any batsman. The Aussie surpassed Virat Kohli who earlier in the league notched up his sixth 500-run season. Warner, before 2023, had scored 500 or more runs in the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Virat, who also has 500+ runs this season, had previously recorded such seasons in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018.

<h2>Warner's Impact on DC</h2>

Delhi's batting this season was as horrible as it could get, with Axar Patel being the second batsman behind Warner in the most runs scored list. Axar, who is primarily a bowling all-rounder, scored 283 runs in 14 matches. The other two batsmen who crossed the 200-run mark for Delhi were Phil Salt (218 runs) and Rilee Rossouw&nbsp;(209 runs), both in nine games each.

<h2>DC's horrible show ends with a loss</h2>

Delhi Capitals played their last match against Chennai Super Kings and lost the game by 77 runs. For most of the season, Delhi's batting was the reason for their woes which had already weakened by the departure of Shreyas Iyer and the unavailability of their star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

Prithvi Shaw had the most disappointing season, scoring just 106 runs in eight games, including a fifty as well.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: David Warner creates history, beats Virat Kohli to achieve THIS milestone

The match everyone has been waiting for is finally upon us – the return leg of Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023. With Delhi regaining top form in the final hour and Chennai needing to cross the last hurdle to finish in the top two, this match promises to deliver. As Delhi is out of the tournament following a dismal start, they will aim to upset CSK’s rhythm in Saturday’s afternoon clash as the playoffs approach.

The hosts Delhi Capitals are coming off a close win over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala and will aim to finish on a high against the qualification-seeking CSK side. With captain David Warner and Prithvi Shaw scoring runs at the top against PBKS, something DC would have liked to have happened earlier, Delhi’s batting got the much-needed confidence.

The overseas pair of South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and England’s Phil Salt is also delivering with the bat, while Axar Patel and upcoming superstar Aman Khan are there to take care of the proceedings in the slog overs. The bowling looks sorted, with the Indian quartet living to the expectations.&nbsp;

With nothing to lose in their final league game this season, DC will come all guns blazing and put up a show worth remembering.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have everything to play for, as the second spot on the points table is up for grabs. The MS Dhoni-led side had suffered jitters lately, but with the confident unit at the helm, they can overturn their fortunes and head for another knockout stage finish in the IPL.&nbsp;

While they also have a few issues to iron out, also with Ben Stokes firm to leave for England following this game, CSK might opt to play him ahead of under-fire Moeen Ali on the sluggish Delhi track. Besides, with Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana not performing lately, he could also get dropped for the English star, who is unlikely to bowl, as informed by coach Stephen Fleming.

Once again, all eyes will be on Shivam Dube, who made this tournament his own with sublime form. On this small Delhi ground, lanky Dube will aim to smash longer sixes and push for a probable win.

<h2>Result Prediction –</h2>

While Delhi has nothing to fear, and with momentum on their side, they could upset Chennai and dent their chances of remaining in the top two on the points table.

Predicted XIs of both sides -

Delhi Capitals -&nbsp;David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Phil Salt, Rilee Rossouw, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull, Axar Patel, Aman Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma and&nbsp;Khaleel Ahmed

<h2>Shaw’s season summed up</h2>

Playing as an impact player, Shaw was dismissed on five on the third ball of the second over of the Delhi Capitals by Tushar Deshpande. Rayudu went all guns blazing at the mid-off position to dismiss Shaw as he dived on his right to take a low-stunner. The wicket summed up Shaw’s season that has been the focal point of the critics and had a season to forget.

In the entire season, the Mumbai batter has scored 106 runs in eight matches and has an average of 13.25 with one fifty. Interestingly, in this entire campaign, he scored more zeros (2) than sixes (1) and crossed double figure mark on three occasions.

For DC, Warner played a lone fighting knock of 86 while other batters struggled to score runs against CSK's aggressive bowling attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. For CSK, Deepak Chahar bagged a three-wicket haul while Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana scalped two wickets each. CSK dominated a dismal Delhi to qualify for the playoffs and gave themselves the best shot at the second spot. CSK ended their 14-match league campaign with 17 points.

Defending a target of 223, CSK bowlers gave their team an explosive start as the opening bowling pair breathed fire to dismantle DC's innings early in the game.

IPL 2023: Ambati Rayudu's stunner sums off Prithvi Shaw's HORRIBLE season for Delhi Capitals | WATCH

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by XX runs in their last league match to stay at second position in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chasing a target of 224, Delhi never looked comfortable as they kept losing wickets at regular interval.

DC skipper David Warner once again was the sole batter to show some intent as he scored his sixth fifty of the season and finished on 86&nbsp;off 57. For Chennai, Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for Chennai, taking 3/22 in his four overs.

<h2>CSK openers again prove their worth</h2>

Chennai, after opting to bat first, once again were provided a blistering start by their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway who both scored a half-century and added 141 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad finally was out after scoring 50-ball 79. Shivam Dube then was promoted up the order to keep the pace going and he did so by playing a blinder of 22 in just 9 balls.

Devon Conway was the third wicket to fall on 195, having scored 75 off 52 as MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (20 not out off 7) then added 28 runs in 10 balls to take CSK past 200.

For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed, Anirch Nortje and Chetan Sakaria took one wicket each and those are the only wickets CSK lost during their innings.

<h2>Prithvi Shaw fails, yet again</h2>

Delhi once again had a horrible start to the chase as Prithvi Shaw, who had scored a fifty in his last match, failed to make an impact and got out on five. Shaw's wicket although was result of a brilliant catch at mid-off rather a poor shot which has been the reason most of the season for his dismissal.

Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw then fell cheaply as DC were left reeling 26/3 inside five overs. Yash Dhull added 49 runs with captain Warner for the fourth wicket before being dismissed for 13. Axar Patel was next to go as the chase all but go over for Delhi. They eventually for&nbsp;just 146 runs&nbsp;in 20 overs.

<h2>Playoff scenarios</h2>

CSK will now be hoping for a loss for Lucknow Super Giants to finish in top two. The IPL playoff format allows the top two finishers two chances of making it to the finals and the win over Delhi is the most CSK can do to ensure that they finish as two top teams after the league phase.

<h2>Gaikwad and Co run riot in Delhi</h2>

Coming into the contest, CSK were in danger of not only missing out on the top two finish but also entirely from the top four, so they needed to make sure of a positive start. Gaikwad and Conway were at their fluent best as they started on a positive note and scored 52 runs for no wickets.

In the 12th over, Ruturaj took his game to another level and scored three consecutive sixes after scoring his latest fifty. The Maharashtra batter looked unstoppable and looked destined for another hundred before he was scalped by Chetan Sakariya on the third ball of the 15th over. However, he did make an impression with a 79-run knock which consisted of 3 fours and 7 sixes and was scoring at a strike rate of 158.

On the flip side he was well supported by his partner in crime Devon Conway, he was in fluent form as well. Conway ended with 87 runs off 52 deliveries and scored 11 fours and 3 sixes and struck at 167.

<h2>CSK playoff berth</h2>

Coming into the contest, CSK needed a win to have a chance of qualifying for the Qualifier 1 and they did their first job with perfection after putting up 223/3 in their 20 overs. A top-two finish will guarantee two opportunities for teams to make the final of the IPL 2023 which takes place on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A win for CSK and a defeat for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will see the former book a top-two berth.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad tears apart DC spinners with five sixes - WATCH

The IPL 2023 edition has been a huge hit. Every year, the league stage goes down to the wire. Often,&nbsp;teams are seen fighting hard for one, or more, remaining playoffs spots till the last day of the league games. This year, the defending champions, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT), remain the only side to have booked a slot in the playoffs, having ensured a top-two finish as well. However,&nbsp;as many as seven franchises remain in the fray to end with the remaining three spots with only four days left in the league stage.

To date, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) remain the only two teams out of this year's edition. So far, 64 out of the 70 league games have been done and dusted -- i.e. 91.42% -- but Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bangalore&nbsp;(RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and&nbsp;Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are still competing to enter the&nbsp;last four.

On Wednesday (May 17), David Warner-led DC franchise defeated PBKS by 15 runs, in match 64, to not only take Shikhar Dhawan &amp; Co. closer to early elimination but further complicate the playoffs race.

Here's what remaining seven teams have to do to grab the&nbsp;three available playoff tickets and join Hardik-led GT -

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni's Yellow Army will confirm a place in the last four with a win over DC in their last league game on Saturday (May 20) in New Delhi. They can even progress ahead without adding to their points tally (15) if&nbsp;RCB or MI lose at least one of their remaining games.

Lucknow Super Giants:&nbsp;Krunal Pandya's LSG won a crucial home game, on Tuesday (May 17), versus MI. Thus, they are also in a safe position compared to other teams. A win will confirm a playoff berth for them and they can even go ahead with a loss but will need MI or RCB to lose one game, at least.&nbsp;

Mumbai Indians: The five-time champions will secure a berth in the last four with a win over&nbsp;SRH in their last match and if RCB lose at least one of their last two league fixtures.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Virat Kohli-starrer RCB can go ahead with wins in their remaining two games. If the three-time runners-up lose one, it will help CSK and LSG -- as stated above -- but the Bengaluru-based team will have to depend on how MI, KKR, RR, and PBKS fare in their last match. As of now, they have a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) than MI, RR, KKR and PBKS at +0.166.

Rajasthan Royals: The Sanju Samson-led Royals have certainly lost the plot after a brilliant start (with four wins from their first five fixtures). They are left with one more game, versus PBKS on Friday (May 19) in Dharamshala. If they earn a massive victory and MI, RCB and KKR lose their remaining games, they can still enter the playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time winners still have an outside chance to feature in the last four. If they get the better of LSG by a handsome margin, they can move past MI and then hope for MI and RCB to&nbsp;lose&nbsp;their remaining encounters. Their journey to the playoffs is more complicated as they will still have to rely on the outcome of the PBKS-RR face-off. For Rana &amp; Co.'s progression, they will pray for Punjab's close win over the Royals or for the game to end in a draw.&nbsp;

Punjab Kings:&nbsp;Punjab have made life much difficult for them with a loss to Warner &amp; Co. in Dharamshala. They, however, remain alive in the playoffs race by the barest of margins. They need to beat RR convincingly and hope for the likes of&nbsp;MI, RCB, and KKR to concede their remaining games.

If this happens, MI and PBKS will end at 14 points each whereas&nbsp;RCB, KKR, and RR will finish&nbsp;dozen points apiece. Thus, NRR will come into play between Mumbai and Punjab for one to join the playoffs.&nbsp;

Currently, GT are set to play the Qualifier 1, in Chennai. The likes of CSK and Lucknow have a great chance to join the last four whereas one among MI and RCB is likely to make the cut as well. Nonetheless, IPL 2023 has pulled off some big surprises already and, hence, anything is possible in the remaining four days of the league games.

On Thursday (May 18), the Faf du Plessis-led Bengaluru franchise will lock horns with the bottom-ranked SRH in Hyderabad in match 65.

Needless to say, all other teams will also have an eye on the encounter.

IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals hurt Punjab Kings' playoff chances with 15-run win

Delhi Capitals (DC) have had a torrid run in IPL 2023. The David Warner-led side were on the back foot before the ongoing season commenced with regular captain Rishabh Pant out of action after a horrific accident on December 30, 2022. Since the start of the season, DC struggled for momentum and while they did achieve some inspiring wins, they became the first team to be eliminated this season after two back-to-back defeats in the last week.&nbsp;

Ever since Ricky Ponting was appointed as the DC head coach, ahead of IPL 2018 (back when the franchise was known as the Delhi Daredevils), the franchise has done considerably well (reaching the playoffs thrice and playing their first-ever final in 2020 edition). However, Ponting-led team management have been criticised for their team combination, underutilisation of key players, etc. in IPL 2023. Thus, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested Sourav Ganguly's name as DC's next head coach.

<h2>GANGULY AS NEXT DC COACH?&nbsp;</h2>

"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role," said Pathan.

Ganguly was part of the DC setup in IPL 2019 as the team advisor before he came back into the setup as the Director of Cricket before IPL 2023. Ganguly has led IPL teams in the past, such as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the now-defunct Pune Warriors (PWI), but never donned the coaching hat. It will be interesting to see if the DC team management remains intact following their dismal run in IPL 2023. If Ponting is sacked, Ganguly can be a worthy successor.

Only time will tell if DC back their under-fire team management or make wholesome changes ahead of IPL 2024.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag praised Punjab Kings batsman Prabhsimran Singh after the latter hit his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century in match 59 against Delhi Capitals. Sehwag, while giving credit to Prabhsimran, also took a shot at PBKS all-rounder Sam Curran for not living up to the expectations of his price tag this season.

Talking to sports website Cricbuzz, Sehwag opined, "Punjab Kings have benefitted from the chances that they've given to Prabhsimran. Now, he has to be consistent. And I think the PBKS will benefit a lot from such a player. When he came for the first time, he was bought for a lot of money (INR 4.8 crore). This time around, he fetched quite less (INR 60 lakh). But he proved his talent today (match day).

Notably, Curran is the most expensive buy ever at the Indian Premier League after being sold for INR 18.5 crores at the auction before the ongoing season. The Englishman, however, has scored only 216 runs in 12 matches so far at an average of 24 and a strike rate of 129.34.

In terms of bowling, the left-hander has taken only seven wickets this season, his worst in IPL so far. Prabhsimran, who plays as a specialist batter only, on the other hand, is having best season in IPL. The batsman has scored 334 runs in 12 matches so far at a strike rate of 157.92. He has also managed to hit one fifty and one hundred in the season so far.

IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag lauds PBKS batter Prabhsimran after his ton vs DC, takes dig at 'pricey' Sam Curran

Chennai Super Kings reduced the gap between them and first-placed Gujarat Titans to one point after beating Delhi Capitals by 27&nbsp;runs in match 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK now have 15 points in 12 matches while GT have 16 in 11 games.

Chasing 168, Delhi never looked comfortable as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with skipper David Warner going for a duck on the second ball of the chase.

By the time Delhi lost their fifth wicket in the form of Rilee Rossouw on a team score of 89, 14.3 overs had already been&nbsp;over. Before Rossouw (35 off 37), Delhi lost Phil Salt (17 off 11) on 20, Mitchell Marsh (5) on 25, and Manish Pandey (27) with&nbsp;84 runs on board. Rossouw and Pandey added 59 runs for the fourth wicket but took nearly nine overs to add those runs.

Axar Patel then played a decent hand of 21 off 12 but the efforts fell short. For Chennai, Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets, Deepak Chahar took&nbsp;two and Ravindra Jadeja picked one. There were two run-outs as well, one by Rahane and one by Moeen Ali, as DC could only manage 140/8&nbsp;in 20 overs.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked like a typical Chennai pitch. CSK, however, got off to a decent start as Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 32 runs for the first wicket in four overs before DC spinner Axar Patel struck with his first ball of the match. Patel trapped Conway LBW on 10 off 13.

Gaikwad also departed on the first ball after the powerplay on 24 off 18 as Axar got him caught on long-off. Moeen Ali came in next with CSK two down for 49 but was done by Kuldeep Yadav's wrist spin, having scored just seven off 10 balls. Ajinkya was the fourth wicket to fall as DC spinners choked the flow of run and left CSK reeling four down on 77 runs in 11.1 overs.&nbsp;

Cameos from Shivam Dube (25 off 12), Ambati Rayudu (23 off 17), and Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 16) took CSK to 167/8 in 20 overs. From DC, Mitchell Marsh was the most successful bowler with 3/18 in three overs. Axar Patel claimed 2/27 in four overs, while Khaleel Ahmed, Lalit Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket apiece.

Chennai Super Kings reduced the gap between them and first-placed Gujarat Titans to one point after beating Delhi Capitals by 27 runs in match 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK now have 15 points in 12 matches while GT have 16 in 11 games. Chasing 168, Delhi never looked comfortable as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with skipper David Warner going for a duck on the second ball of the chase. By the time Delhi lost their fifth wicket in the form of Rilee Rossouw on a team score of 89, 14.3 overs had already been over. IPL 2023: Chennai close in on GT with 27-run win over DC at Chepauk

Delhi Capitals (DC) lost by 27 runs to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 55 of the IPL 2023 edition. With this loss, David Warner &amp; Co. have now lost seven games in this year's season and continue to remain at the bottom, with eight points from 11 games. With defeat to CSK, DC are near an early elimination and former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra made a big prediction on Delhi camp's future.&nbsp;

Chopra feels some big changes are on the cards in the DC camp post their disappointing run in IPL 2023. As they are nearing elimination, and can well end at the bottom, the former Indian cricketer believes the one-time runners-up might have to change their coaching staff and captain for next season.&nbsp;

"Delhi - I feel the season is over now because you will be able to reach 14 points and your net run rate is very ordinary in any case. It is probably the time for churning there. Delhi might have to change their coaching staff and captain in the coming year," said Chopra on his Youtube channel.

He further opined, "If they don't do that, I will be extremely surprised. This is just my personal opinion. Nothing against anyone to be very honest, but this year's strategies have been slightly beyond my understanding.&nbsp;When Delhi look back and see, they should definitely ask the question that what their players did was on one side, but what is your think tank doing? You don't use Axar Patel properly. You played Sarfaraz Khan, then dropped him and after that, he was in and out."

"You played Priyam Garg an odd match. Aman Khan plays well and you dropped him down the order. You played Lalit Yadav but you kept him down the order and sent Ripal Patel ahead of them. What are you doing? Sometimes it just defies logic," added Chopra.

Ricky Ponting-coached DC, who had fair success from IPL 2019 to 2022, have never looked their part this season. While they have bounced back of late, with four wins from their last six encounters, they are at the bottom for their poor start and poor tactics (in terms of usage of players, team combination, etc.)

DC will now face the Punjab Kings (PBKS), at home, on Saturday (May 13).

IPL 2023: 'They might have to change...'- Former Indian opener on DC's future post CSK loss

Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje left for South Africa late Friday night owing to a personal emergency and will miss Saturday’s home clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the franchise’s official statement says. In IPL 2023, protean seamer picked seven wickets from eight matches played and was instrumental in helping DC win their previous encounter against defending champions Gujarat Titans by five runs.

DC’s official statement read, “Owing to a personal emergency, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje had to leave for South Africa late on Friday night. He will be unavailable for this evening’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.”

Considering the important tie against RCB at home tonight, Delhi would miss his services as they are also without Bangladesh’s seamer Mustafizur Rahman. While for DC to stay in contention for the playoffs race, they need to win their remaining five matches, and then, with other teams also delivering at the same time, they have to rely on some permutations and combinations going forward.

Delhi’s batting has struggled big time with none of their top order players, barring David Warner, delivering with the bat. All-rounder Axar Patel is another name who has done well with both bat and ball so far. For DC to eye for a place in the knockouts, they will need other players to step up also.

DC -&nbsp;David Warner (C), Philip Salt (wk), Mitch Marsh, Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Axar Patel, Ripal Patel, Aman Hakim Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Ishant Sharma

IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals Anrich Nortje returns home owing to personal emergency, to miss RCB clash

Not many would have given bottom-ranked David Warner-led Delhi Capitals (DC) any chance of beating table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) when both sides met&nbsp;in Ahmedabad&nbsp;in match 44 of the IPL 2023 edition on Tuesday (May 02). Opting to bat first, DC were rattled by Mohammed Shami's spell, 4-0-11-4, as they were reduced to 23 for 5 but&nbsp;Aman Hakim Khan's 51 and contributions from Axar Patel and Ripal Patel took DC to 130 for 8 on a challenging surface. In reply, Ishant Sharma 2 for 23 and a brilliant final over took Delhi to an unlikely win over Gujarat, by five runs.

GT was tottering at 32 for 4 and despite a 62-run stand between captain Hardik Pandya (53-ball 59) and Abhinav Manohar (33-ball 26), for the fifth wicket, Gujarat never found any rhythm. The defending champions' run-chase got a much-needed push with Rahul Tewatia slamming three back-to-back sixes off Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over. From 33 off 12, GT were alive in the chase with only 12 needed off the last six before Ishant used all his experience to dismiss Tewatia and ended by only conceding six runs.

After the match, Ishant revealed how he got the better of Tewatia (resorting to his change-ups). "I played enough cricket with Tewatia, so was just having fun with him. I knew I had to double bluff him otherwise we know what he can do with the bat," he stated.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation, Warner said, "Our bowlers were amazing.&nbsp;I was nervous when Tewatia was going off, he has a reputation for that kind of stuff. Anrich is our most consistent death bowler, but couldn't get it right today. But Ishant was so clear with what he wanted to execute for us."

With this win, DC keep their playoff hopes alive whereas GT remain at the top with 12 points from nine games.&nbsp;

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya blamed himself after a shocker of a loss against Delhi Capitals. Notably, Delhi defended a paltry score of 130 and won by five runs at GT's home ground in Ahmedabad.

"I tried my best but could not capitalise. It boils down to me. Obviously, we would have taken 129 on any given day. (We) just lost a couple of wickets and at the end, Rahul (Tewatia) got us back in the game," he said at the post-match presentation.

"I don't think the [track] played much role. It was a tad slower than what we are used to here. But they bowled really well. We lost a couple of early wickets and then we had to take some time. We could not get the rhythm in the middle. Rahul brought us back into the game. Otherwise, they were quite ahead," added Hardik.

The skipper felt sorry, especially for fast bowler Mohammed Shami who&nbsp;tore apart Delhi's batting line-up to leave them reeling five down for 23 in five overs. Shami finished with stats of 4/11 in his four overs to help GT restrict DC to 130/8 in 20 overs.

"I feel sorry for (Shami)," Pandya sighed. “If you bowl like that, then you restrict the team to 129 (130), I think (our) batters are disappointed. I don't think the ball did a lot. It's just that Mohammed Shami's skillset he has and he made the ball talk. Otherwise, I think for fast bowlers, the wicket did not have much assistance. But the way he bowled four on the trot and got us in the game, full credit (to him). As I said, batters and particularly myself did not finish and we disappointed him,” he added.

Hardik's comments came after his unbeaten 53-ball 59 couldn't take his team home. Also Watch: Rahul Tewatia sets the stage on fire with a hat-trick of sixes off Anrich Nortje in GT-DC IPL 2023 tie The skipper felt sorry, especially for fast bowler Mohammed Shami who tore apart Delhi's batting line-up to leave them reeling five down for 23 in five overs. Rahul Tewatia (20 off 7), as Pandya mentioned, turned the game around with three back-to-back sixes off Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over of the chase but GT couldn't capitalise on it as it failed to hunt down 12 runs in the final over. IPL 2023: Skipper Hardik Pandya opens up on GT's shocking loss vs DC, says 'it boils down to me'

Former India player Virender Sehwag took a jibe at Delhi Capitals’ (DC) approach in the Indian Premier League (IPL) contest against Gujarat Titans (GT) after they faced a horrible batting collapse. Sehwag was not pleased with the batting approach of the DC side while underlining poor selection as the reason for their failure against a resolute GT bowling led by Mohammed Shami.

“Priyam Garg should have sacrificed his wicket because Warner would have scored runs for Delhi, he is the batter in form and would have taken Delhi to a respectable total. Delhi's collapse is down to the poor shot selection. Warner was left unfortunate,” Sehwag said after Delhi’s horrible collapse.

Sehwag also spoke on Axar Patel’s batting position and highlighted that he should have come early. According to Sehwag, the move would have made sense and could have seen DC end with more runs despite early struggles in the contest.

“We all wanted Axar Patel to come in early to bat, so he did. Yes he batted at the same position, but came in the fourth over. But while we expected that he would come early and score 60-70 runs, that didn't happen because he too was under pressure as a lot of wickets had already fallen,” he said.

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mohammed Shami had a spectacular evening at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2 as he ripped apart the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami, playing in his ninth match of the season, took control of the Purple Cap after scalping his 17th wicket of the season.

DC faced a tough task to make it to the triple-figure mark, but Aman Hakim Khan’s 51-run knock and Axar’s 27 saw the visitor’s end with a competitive score of 130/8 in 20 overs. Shami ended with figures of 11/4 in his four overs and was the pick of the bowlers for the home side.

IPL 2023: Shocking! Fans engage in violent brawl during DC vs SRH clash in Delhi - Watch video

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals has come up with a strict code of conduct guidelines for its players after a cricketer from the franchise misbehaved with a woman at a party, as per reports.

The code of conduct was issued after DC's win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The incident of misbehaviour with the woman happened a few days before the win at a franchise party. But there are no details of the incident or mention of it in the code of conduct. The advisory also adds that fines and termination of contracts will be the punishments for breach of any kind. It has been done to protect the side's image.

Currently, DC is at the bottom position in the IPL 2023 points table. They have a total of four points after two wins and five losses in seven games. They will again take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi on April 29.

Delhi endured a tough start to the IPL season having lost their opening five matches under the captaincy of David Warner. The side has now recovered well and have registered back-to-back wins to keep their hopes of a Playoff place alive. DC in seven matches have four points and are just four points adrift of fourth placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

If they can register another win they will go within two points of RCB and stand a chance to make the Playoffs. They will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi before they travel to Chennai to play Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

While the name of the player was not revealed, the team will now look to the SRH game on Saturday with the big battle at the bottom of the league. A win for DC will see them get lifted from the basement of the IPL standings while a defeat at home could see their hopes of making the top take huge dents.

Delhi Capitals issue strict code of conduct after star player misbehaves with woman at party - Report

Former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar wants Delhi Capitals to appoint Axar Patel as their captain, replacing David Warner. Notably, Warner was given the captaincy after DC's regular skipper Rishabh Pant was sidelined for the season following a horrible car accident in December 2022.

Gavaskar, while speaking on Star Sports Cricket Live, said, "I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He's in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in a long run."

The statement comes as Delhi won its second match on the trot after losing five in a row. Patel chipped in with both bat and ball in Delhi's second with as he first scored 34 off 34, helping Capitals put up 144/9 in 20 overs. He then took 2/21i his four overs as Delhi won a cliffhanger by seven runs.

All in all, Axar has been a top performer for Delhi this season with both bat and ball. The all-rounder has scored 182 runs in seven matches so far and is behind only skipper David Warner, who has scored 306 runs in seven matches. In terms of bowling, he's second highest wicket-taker for Delhi along with Anrich Nortje with six wickets this season, only behind spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has seven wickets.

With two wins in seven games, Delhi have four points with a long way to long if they wish to be a part of playoffs this season.

IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar wants Delhi Capitals to replace Warner as captain with THIS Indian player

Former Australia great and Delhi Capitals assistant head coach Shane Watson was full of praise for star all-rounder Axar Patel having impressed in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. According to Watson, Axar is a “world-class” power hitter and can help DC recover in the IPL season after a poor start. DC are due to face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, April 24 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

"The first few years of Axar, we were used to seeing him as a very skilled bowler but his batting was a little restricted. But now he's a world-class power hitter and a world-class batsman. We saw that in the Test matches against Australia and now to see what he's done in IPL is very special. It shows his dedication to his skill. And he's doing it against the best bowlers in the world, not part-time bowlers," the former Australia all-rounder added.

DC have endured a tough start to life in the current season of the IPL as they lost their first five matches but recently registered their first win of the season. DC beat KKR in a low-scoring affair on Thursday and will look to continue that momentum ahead of the SRH clash, with both teams occupying the bottom two spots.

"I enjoyed my rivalry playing against Ishant Sharma. Now to work with him as a coaching staff is incredible. He certainly will play a big part in our team, especially in the powerplay. There's still a lot of T20 cricket left in Ishant Sharma,” Watson added.

The Capitals were expected to flourish under the captaincy of David Warner who was given the reins of the side after skipper Rishabh Pant was out of the season. DC’s chances of making the playoffs are slim after five teams have eight or more points and have made it tough for them, however, DC still return a mathematical chance of making the last four.

IPL 2023: Shane Watson backs Axar Patel's batting ability, says 'He is a world-class power hitter'

Veteran IPL batter David Warner's Delhi Capitals finally won a game this season after going down in five successive matches before this. Although Warner has runs under his belt in IPL 2023, having completed four fifties in six matches, he still looked far from convincing until against KKR the other night, where he turned back the clock with a 41-ball 57.

Unlike how it fared in the games before Wednesday, where Delhi used to lose a cluster of wickets inside the Powerplay - this time, they remained on 61 for one by the end of six overs in the chase of 128. Pin-pointing this as the difference-maker in his approach, Warner said he enjoyed taking on the bowlers without worrying about shouldering the responsibility of bailing the team out of trouble early on.

"We didn't lose three wickets in a row. There are going to be a lot of critics out there to suggest that I haven't been batting the way I normally bat. But when you lose three wickets in a row in two overs, and I faced three balls, what can you do? You can't really do anything. You have to have some sense of responsibility. Just like little Bangalore. You know (if) I get out, people would have criticised me getting out but that's just the game, that's how it is," Warner replied to his critics who questioned his strike rate in the games earlier.&nbsp;

On a track that didn't look like providing the best balance between bat and ball, Warner struck 11 fours, four of which had come in Sunil Narine's first over. Opening up on how it was batting with a different approach against KKR, Warner said he felt like finding his rhythm back and even added before the match, he did have a couple of good net sessions that paid dividends.

"For us, it's about backing yourself and coming out and executing your skills. I felt like my match-ups were there, and I'll take the powerplay on. And we didn't lose wickets in clumps in the first two overs. So that plays a big role as well. But for me, I felt that I had my rhythm back again, I had a good couple of net sessions. I was probably a bit tentative losing a lot of wickets in the first couple of games, but for me, it's about going out there and just playing like the way I do and the way that I know, and then it's going to be better off for us and the team," Delhi Capitals captain added.

Although Warner has runs under his belt in IPL 2023, having completed four fifties in six matches, he still looked far from convincing until against KKR the other night, where he turned back the clock with a 41-ball 57.

There are going to be a lot of critics out there to suggest that I haven't been batting the way I normally bat. But when you lose three wickets in a row in two overs, and I faced three balls, what can you do? You can't really do anything. You have to have some sense of responsibility. Just like little Bangalore. You know (if) I get out, people would have criticised me getting out but that's just the game, that's how it is," Warner replied to his critics who questioned his strike rate in the games earlier. Meanwhile, this win has opened DC's campaign in IPL 2023, and they will like to carry the winning momentum. They next face SunRisers Hyderabad on April 24th.

IPL 2023: David Warner hits back at critics following Delhi's first win of the season

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) have got back most of their stolen gear, captain David Warner confirmed via Instagram on Friday. It is not known yet where the equipment was retrieved.

Delhi Capitals players learnt about their missing cricketing equipment after they landed from Bengaluru at the Delhi Airport on Wednesday. On Friday, Warner shared an Instagram story in which he showed a snapshot of numerous stolen bats and other batting equipment.

"They found the culprits. Few missing still but thank you," he wrote.

Delhi Capitals on Thursday won their first game of the season as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a low-scoring thriller. The Capitals won by three wickets to end their five-match losing streak.

A collective bowling performance, where four bowlers picked up two wickets each, helped DC bowl KKR out for 127. David Warner then led from the front with the bat with 57 of 41 and Axar Patel played a crucial knock of 19* of 22 to hold his nerve and take DC past the finish line after KKR had fought back hard to take the match down the wire.

Warner had struggled with his strike-rate in previous games.

IPL 2023: DC finally break duck for season, beat KKR by four wickets in low-scoring thriller

Delhi Capitals (DC) finally got off the mark in IPL 2023 when they beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 28 on Thursday (April 21). In a rain-delayed encounter, DC opted to bowl first and rode on two wickets each from Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel to dismiss KKR for 127 in 19.2 overs.

In reply, DC were tested by the KKR spinners -- with skipper Nitish Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy and Anukul Roy taking two scalps each -- but got over the line in the final over, with four wickets and equal number of balls to spare. From DC, David Warner once again top-scored with a 41-ball 57 whereas Axar Patel finished things off with a 22-ball 19.

While bowlers set it up for DC, Warner and Axar led the charge with the bat with contribution from Manish Pandey as well. Nonetheless, the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh continued to remain poor. Talking about Pandey, the discarded Indian batter has also coped up with criticism for his strike rate issues. So far, he has scored&nbsp;94 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 121.&nbsp;

Pandey has not had an extra ordinary run in the IPL for quite some time. In the last three seasons, he strike rate has been as high as only 123.72&nbsp;and remained 110. Thus, before DC versus KKR, Kris Srikkanth -- ex-India chief selector and cricketer -- shared his brutal take on him.

During the live telecast of the DC-KKR face-off, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi,&nbsp;the presenter Neroli Meadows questioned Srikkanth&nbsp;about Pandey. The 1983 World Cup-winning member&nbsp;interrupted and said 'why talk about Manish Pandey, he shouldn't even be in the team'.&nbsp;

<h2>Here's how the conversation panned out:</h2>

Meadows:&nbsp;Chikka, a word about Manish Pandey. He hasn’t quite been able to… (gets interrupted)

Srikkanth:&nbsp;Why are we talking about Manish Pandey? I don’t want to talk about him. The guy shouldn’t even be in the team. Let’s talk about Axar Patel, how he has been in the form of his life and deserves to bat higher.

Meadows:&nbsp;Well, Chikka seems to be pretty clear that he doesn’t want to talk about Manish Pandey.

Srikkanth:&nbsp;No, I don’t want to talk about him. He shouldn’t be in this team. If I was the chairman of selectors, he wouldn't have played.

IPL 2023: 'Why talk about him? He shouldn't...' - Kris Srikkanth slams star Indian batter during DC-KKR tie

In match 20 of the IPL 2023 edition, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hosted the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on April 15. In defence of 174 for 6, the Virat Kohli-starrer RCB beat Delhi by 23 runs but the game made maximum noise when Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, former India captain and BCCI chief who is serving as DC's Director of Cricket, didn't shake hands after the match.

During the customary handshake, Kohli and Ganguly&nbsp;did not greet each other and walked off straightaway. Moreover, Kohli reportedly unfollowed Ganguly on Instagram and the latter returned the favour as well. Irrespective of the truth behind their recent action on Instagram, a lot has been said and written about Kohli vs Ganguly saga since late 2021 (when things got out of hands between the duo post Kohli's decision to resign as Team India's T20I captain).&nbsp;

Now, Shane Watson -- DC's assistant coach -- opined on Kohli vs Ganguly stare off and said on Grade Cricket's Youtube channel, "It could be rumour mongering, but I’m not sure. So, it’s not something I want to get involved in."

Watson, however, was quick to point out that there was "definitely some fire in Kohli's belly". "But there was definitely some fire in Virat’s belly, that’s for sure. For an opposition point of view, that’s the last thing you need as well. Virat, when he’s like that, that’s when he’s at his absolute best. Whatever reason that was, I’m not exactly sure,” the Aussie veteran added.

DC and RCB will once again face-off, in the reverse clash, on May 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. It will be interesting to see what happens this time around between the two superstar cricketers.

Match 28 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition will see the winless Delhi Capitals (DC) host the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Zealand on Thursday evening (April 20). The David Warner-led Delhi franchise have looked a pale shadow of themselves after five straight defeats and, hence, will be eager to get off the mark as the competition has already got intense between all other nine teams. Thus, DC will not like to be left behind and will aim to open their account versus KKR.&nbsp;

Talking about KKR, the Nitish Rana-led franchise have had a topsy-turvy ride. After five games, they have won two and lost three and, thus, need to pull up their socks. For them to become more consistent, they need the likes of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell -- two of their most experienced players -- to come good and deliver more often than not. They also need to fix their opening combination as the league stage is now nearing its halfway mark.&nbsp;

IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders - Match preview and result prediction

Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has urged the struggling Delhi Capitals side to take some risks if they wish to overturn their fortunes in IPL 2023. Ahead of DC’s sixth match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, Moody wants DC to drop Prithvi Shaw and replace him with Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order.

Moody feels IPL 2023 is not Shaw’s year and that he should get benched for good, and the team must look into other options straightaway. The young right-handed batter scored only 34 runs in five games, including two ducks, and hasn’t looked confident either.

As the Delhi side is reeling at the tenth spot in the points table with five losses in as many games, Moody said the time for extended runs for a few players is over and the team must take some harsh calls.

"You've got to make a tough call on certain players that aren't showing any light at the end of the tunnel. And on the evidence of what we've seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have," Moody said on ESPNcricinfo, as quoted by India Today.

"It can just be, 'Oh, we'll give him a couple more games and see what happens'. Those couple of games go, and your chances as a franchise have gone. That's why you've got to make that cold, hard decision at that point. This is a crunch time," he added.

Giving his suggestion to this solution, Moody said Delhi must consider looking at Mitchell Marsh as the option, as he has done it in the past – most recently against India in Vizag, where he scored 66 off 36 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes.

"He's (Marsh) done that before recently, and he's done it successfully. He's naturally an enforcer, so that would complement [David] Warner, it would help him as well," Moody said. "You've got a left-right combination, you've got a 6ft4in and a 5ft8in batter, which is difficult to bowl to."

Besides, he also wants the man-in-form, Axar Patel to bat higher up the order at number five.

IPL 2023: SHOCKING! Bats, other equipment stolen from Delhi Capitals players' kits

The Delhi Capitals will be looking to get into winning ways when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday. The 2020 runners-up have endured a tough start to the season, having lost all of their five matches. Led by David Warner, DC will look for a positive outcome in their contest to keep their faintest hopes alive to make the playoffs.

Speaking ahead of the game, Delhi Capitals' all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said, "We would certainly like to bat better. We've not been able to get off to good starts or we have lost wickets in clumps. We have to string partnerships and we need one player to get a big score. If we can do that, then we can turn it around."

When asked about his own form with the bat, Marsh said, "I've got a lot of confidence in my processes and routines to go out there and play aggressively from ball one. I've not been able to execute my plans in the three games that I have played this season. But I know that my process works and therefore it's about sticking to your process and having good intent. Hopefully, I can start scoring runs."

The Australian further expressed that the Delhi Capitals are working very hard to turn their fortunes in the TATA IPL 2023, "It's always difficult when things are not going right for the team. However, the spirits are high in the camp. We are a family at the Delhi Capitals and we care deeply about each other. We are all working extremely hard and hopefully, we can get a win in our next game."

Delhi Capitals have so far lost all their matches in the IPL 2023 and will look to register their first win of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
