Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by XX runs in their last league match to stay at second position in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chasing a target of 224, Delhi never looked comfortable as they kept losing wickets at regular interval.

DC skipper David Warner once again was the sole batter to show some intent as he scored his sixth fifty of the season and finished on 86&nbsp;off 57. For Chennai, Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for Chennai, taking 3/22 in his four overs.

<h2>CSK openers again prove their worth</h2>

Chennai, after opting to bat first, once again were provided a blistering start by their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway who both scored a half-century and added 141 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad finally was out after scoring 50-ball 79. Shivam Dube then was promoted up the order to keep the pace going and he did so by playing a blinder of 22 in just 9 balls.

Devon Conway was the third wicket to fall on 195, having scored 75 off 52 as MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (20 not out off 7) then added 28 runs in 10 balls to take CSK past 200.

For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed, Anirch Nortje and Chetan Sakaria took one wicket each and those are the only wickets CSK lost during their innings.

If the three-time runners-up lose one, it will help CSK and LSG -- as stated above -- but the Bengaluru-based team will have to depend on how MI, KKR, RR, and PBKS fare in their last match. As of now, they have a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) than MI, RR, KKR and PBKS at +0.166.

Rajasthan Royals: The Sanju Samson-led Royals have certainly lost the plot after a brilliant start (with four wins from their first five fixtures). They are left with one more game, versus PBKS on Friday (May 19) in Dharamshala. If they earn a massive victory and MI, RCB and KKR lose their remaining games, they can still enter the playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time winners still have an outside chance to feature in the last four. If they get the better of LSG by a handsome margin, they can move past MI and then hope for MI and RCB to&nbsp;lose&nbsp;their remaining encounters. Their journey to the playoffs is more complicated as they will still have to rely on the outcome of the PBKS-RR face-off. For Rana &amp; Co.'s progression, they will pray for Punjab's close win over the Royals or for the game to end in a draw.&nbsp;

Punjab Kings:&nbsp;Punjab have made life much difficult for them with a loss to Warner &amp; Co. in Dharamshala. They, however, remain alive in the playoffs race by the barest of margins. IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals hurt Punjab Kings' playoff chances with 15-run win

Delhi Capitals (DC) have had a torrid run in IPL 2023. The David Warner-led side were on the back foot before the ongoing season commenced with regular captain Rishabh Pant out of action after a horrific accident on December 30, 2022. Since the start of the season, DC struggled for momentum and while they did achieve some inspiring wins, they became the first team to be eliminated this season after two back-to-back defeats in the last week.&nbsp;

Ever since Ricky Ponting was appointed as the DC head coach, ahead of IPL 2018 (back when the franchise was known as the Delhi Daredevils), the franchise has done considerably well (reaching the playoffs thrice and playing their first-ever final in 2020 edition). However, Ponting-led team management have been criticised for their team combination, underutilisation of key players, etc. in IPL 2023. Thus, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested Sourav Ganguly's name as DC's next head coach.

<h2>GANGULY AS NEXT DC COACH?&nbsp;</h2>

"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role," said Pathan.

Not many would have given bottom-ranked David Warner-led Delhi Capitals (DC) any chance of beating table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) when both sides met&nbsp;in Ahmedabad&nbsp;in match 44 of the IPL 2023 edition on Tuesday (May 02). Opting to bat first, DC were rattled by Mohammed Shami's spell, 4-0-11-4, as they were reduced to 23 for 5 but&nbsp;Aman Hakim Khan's 51 and contributions from Axar Patel and Ripal Patel took DC to 130 for 8 on a challenging surface. In reply, Ishant Sharma 2 for 23 and a brilliant final over took Delhi to an unlikely win over Gujarat, by five runs.

GT was tottering at 32 for 4 and despite a 62-run stand between captain Hardik Pandya (53-ball 59) and Abhinav Manohar (33-ball 26), for the fifth wicket, Gujarat never found any rhythm. The defending champions' run-chase got a much-needed push with Rahul Tewatia slamming three back-to-back sixes off Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over. From 33 off 12, GT were alive in the chase with only 12 needed off the last six before Ishant used all his experience to dismiss Tewatia and ended by only conceding six runs.

The skipper felt sorry, especially for fast bowler Mohammed Shami who&nbsp;tore apart Delhi's batting line-up to leave them reeling five down for 23 in five overs. Shami finished with stats of 4/11 in his four overs to help GT restrict DC to 130/8 in 20 overs.

"I feel sorry for (Shami)," Pandya sighed. “If you bowl like that, then you restrict the team to 129 (130), I think (our) batters are disappointed. I don't think the ball did a lot. It's just that Mohammed Shami's skillset he has and he made the ball talk. Otherwise, I think for fast bowlers, the wicket did not have much assistance. But the way he bowled four on the trot and got us in the game, full credit (to him). As I said, batters and particularly myself did not finish and we disappointed him,” he added.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals has come up with a strict code of conduct guidelines for its players after a cricketer from the franchise misbehaved with a woman at a party, as per reports.

The code of conduct was issued after DC's win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The incident of misbehaviour with the woman happened a few days before the win at a franchise party. But there are no details of the incident or mention of it in the code of conduct. The advisory also adds that fines and termination of contracts will be the punishments for breach of any kind. It has been done to protect the side's image.

Currently, DC is at the bottom position in the IPL 2023 points table. They have a total of four points after two wins and five losses in seven games. They will again take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi on April 29.

Delhi Capitals (DC) finally got off the mark in IPL 2023 when they beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 28 on Thursday (April 21). In a rain-delayed encounter, DC opted to bowl first and rode on two wickets each from Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel to dismiss KKR for 127 in 19.2 overs.

In reply, DC were tested by the KKR spinners -- with skipper Nitish Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy and Anukul Roy taking two scalps each -- but got over the line in the final over, with four wickets and equal number of balls to spare. From DC, David Warner once again top-scored with a 41-ball 57 whereas Axar Patel finished things off with a 22-ball 19.

While bowlers set it up for DC, Warner and Axar led the charge with the bat with contribution from Manish Pandey as well. Nonetheless, the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh continued to remain poor. Talking about Pandey, the discarded Indian batter has also coped up with criticism for his strike rate issues. So far, he has scored&nbsp;94 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 121.&nbsp;

Pandey has not had an extra ordinary run in the IPL for quite some time. In the last three seasons, he strike rate has been as high as only 123.72&nbsp;and remained 110. Thus, before DC versus KKR, Kris Srikkanth -- ex-India chief selector and cricketer -- shared his brutal take on him.

Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has urged the struggling Delhi Capitals side to take some risks if they wish to overturn their fortunes in IPL 2023. Ahead of DC’s sixth match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, Moody wants DC to drop Prithvi Shaw and replace him with Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order.

Moody feels IPL 2023 is not Shaw’s year and that he should get benched for good, and the team must look into other options straightaway. The young right-handed batter scored only 34 runs in five games, including two ducks, and hasn’t looked confident either.

As the Delhi side is reeling at the tenth spot in the points table with five losses in as many games, Moody said the time for extended runs for a few players is over and the team must take some harsh calls.

And on the evidence of what we've seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have," Moody said on ESPNcricinfo, as quoted by India Today.

"It can just be, 'Oh, we'll give him a couple more games and see what happens'. Those couple of games go, and your chances as a franchise have gone. That's why you've got to make that cold, hard decision at that point. This is a crunch time," he added.

Giving his suggestion to this solution, Moody said Delhi must consider looking at Mitchell Marsh as the option, as he has done it in the past – most recently against India in Vizag, where he scored 66 off 36 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes.

"He's (Marsh) done that before recently, and he's done it successfully. He's naturally an enforcer, so that would complement [David] Warner, it would help him as well," Moody said. "You've got a left-right combination, you've got a 6ft4in and a 5ft8in batter, which is difficult to bowl to."

Besides, he also wants the man-in-form, Axar Patel to bat higher up the order at number five.

In a shocking incident, various bats and other items have been stolen from Delhi Capitals players' kit bag. Among the items apart from bats which have gone missing from DC players' kit are batting pads, shoes, thigh-pads and gloves as well.

According to the media outlet, the Indian Express, a total of 16 bats have been stolen. The players affected by the incident are DC skipper David Warner whoes three bats were stolen, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh lost two of his bats while wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Salt lost three. Indian youngster Yash Dhull also lost five of his bats.

The cost of bats stolen from the foreign players' kit bags was INR 1 lakh each, as per the Indian Express. The incident came to light when the players received their respective kits after coming back from Bangalore. The matter was escalated soon to the franchise officials who then raised a official complaint.&nbsp;

“All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police and later at the airport. The investigation is on,” a Delhi Capitals source confirmed to the Indian Express.

Speaking to the media outlet, DCP (Airport) Devesh Kumar Mahla said that they were informed about the incident on Tuesday evening when two people came to IGI airport to report the mass stealing.

“Our duty officer asked them to write a complaint with all the details and gave them a paper. They said that they would get all the details and will file a complaint. Appropriate legal action would be taken,” DCP Mahla said.

While DC managed to conduct a practice session on Tuesday, the players have contacted their agents for the new bats in the meantime. Delhi play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 20.

A source, according to the report, told PTI that poor results are going to have its repercussions, although no changes would be done mid-season.

"Obviously, nothing will happen mid season but the poor result for two successive season will have it's share of repercussions when JSW and GMR, the two co-owners sit back and take stock of the season," the source aware of the developments informed PTI.

"So you will certainly not have this jumbo coaching staff next season for sure. There will be a few heads that might roll," the source added further.

In their opening match of the season, Delhi Capitals conceded 193 against Lucknow and manage just 143 while chasing. In the next match DC could manage only 162 in their 20 overs which Gujarat Titans chased with six wickets in hand.

Bowling first in their third match against Rajasthan Royals, DC bowlers were taken to cleaners for 199 in 20 overs but the batsmen could only score 142 in reply. Playing against Mumbai Indians, DC folded for 172 and Mumbai chased the target in exact 20 overs with six wickets in hand.

Coming into the match against RCB, DC's batting faltered once more as they scored just 151 in 20 overs while chasing 175.

“I was quite disappointed that I got out to a full toss. I’ve been playing really well. I wanted to make sure that after fifty, I was targeting 30-35 runs off the next 10 balls. That’s how I play. That would’ve helped us get past 200," said Kohli at the post-match presentation.

“One thing I mentioned to the guys in the change room was that 175 was enough on this pitch. It slowed down considerably when the spinners came on.
