<h3>DC secure final berth</h3>

With a place in the final up for grabs, Delhi needed a win in the final match to get a direct berth and did that with style. Skipper Lanning (39) and Shafali Verma (21) gave Delhi a good start as they chased down the 139-run target. They put together an opening stand of 56 runs and put the Delhi on the brink of a final spot.

However, after they both departed Marizanne Kapp (34) and Alice Capsey (34) took over the initiative and led Delhi home with 13 balls to spare. Shabnim Ismail ended with two wickets and will look to play DC once again if they beat Mumbai in the Eliminator.

<h3>Warriorz fail to impress with bat</h3>

After being put to bowl first by Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz was off to a solid start. Openers Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sehrawat added 30 runs for the first wicket. Sehrawat looked really good, finding gaps at will to hit four boundaries. But Sehrawat's 12-ball stay at the crease was ended by Radha Yadav for 19 runs, with Jess Jonassen taking a good catch at point. UPW was 30/1 in 4.1 overs.

Capsey was the pick of the bowlers for DC, taking 3/26 in four overs. Radha Yadav ended with figures of 2/28 and Jonassen also got a wicket.

The Eliminator clash will now take place on Friday between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz with the winner facing Delhi Capitals in the final on Sunday.

During the 2006 edition of the Challengers Trophy, India's famed trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly -- in the last phase of their respective careers -- were divided among two teams. The then national captains&nbsp;Dravid and Tendulkar were part of the India Blues whereas Ganguly was in Mohammed Kaif-led India Greens. Meanwhile, batter Ripal Patel said, _"The energy in the Delhi Capitals jersey launch event was really good. The new jersey is well made. The mood in the Delhi Capitals camp is great and we are preparing well for the upcoming IPL season."_

Ahead of the IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly has provided an update on when the management will announce Rishabh Pant’s replacement. Revealing that he is yet to speak with Pant, who is recovering from injuries he suffered in a horrific accident late last year, Ganguly wished a speedy recovery to the India keeper.&nbsp;

During the wee hours on December 30th, Rishabh Pant’s car ramped into the roadside dividers on the Dehradun-Delhi highway and crashed. While Pant endured several&nbsp;injuries, the onlookers saved him by pulling him out of the car before it caught fire.&nbsp;

He was first rushed to the local hospital before getting shifted to the Max hospital in Dehradun, after which he got airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment on his knees. Upon getting operated, Pant was advised rest for close to three to six months that ruled him out of any competitive cricket for at least this year.

After an early blow, Harleen Deol and Laura Wolvaardt took charge as they gathered singles while slamming boundaries at regular intervals. In the 10th over of the game, Jess Jonassen gave Gujarat another blow as she dismissed well-set batter Harleen Deol for 31 runs.

The right-handed batter Ashleigh Gardner then came out to bat. The Gujarat batters rotated the strike, not allowing the Delhi bowlers to settle down while whacking the loose balls.

DC will next face undefeated Mumbai Indians on Monday at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy while GG take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday at the Brabourne Stadium in a do-or-die contest.

WPL 2023: RCB star Ellyse Perry's INSPIRING act after loss against Delhi wins a million hearts

It’s not easy being an RCB fan, be it in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Following Monday’s result against second-placed&nbsp;Delhi Capitals, the Royal Challengers Bangalore-led by Smriti Mandhana, is all but out of the race from the playoffs. Despite super-show with the bat in hand from Australia’s Ellyse Perry, who scored 67 off 55 balls, Bangalore failed to register their first win of the tournament as Delhi defeat them by six wickets.&nbsp;

Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first, and in no time, got rid of Mandhana - who is short of runs and confidence, on just eight. A little partnership between Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry got them back in the game, but soon after, Shikha Pandey provided her team with a needed-breakthrough.

Batting first after losing the toss, Delhi started brilliantly, thanks to their skipper Meg Lanning, who played another masterful innings of 70 runs. And, with some fireworks by Jess Jonassen in the end overs, who scored 42 unbeaten runs of just 20 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, the Capitals finished at 211/4 in their 20 overs. Their second consecutive 200+ total in the league.

Tahlia McGrath then tried lifting the chase as she held one end but couldn't find proper support from the other and UP fell short by 42 runs, managing 169/5 in their 20 overs. Tahlia McGrath, however, played a masterful innings of 90 not out off just 50 balls, hitting 11 fours and four sixes.

Australian captain Meg Lanning on Thursday, March 2nd was announced as the captain of the Delhi Capitals franchise in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) while India’s young gun Jemimah Rodrigues was named as her deputy. Having led the Australian women’s cricket team to four T20 World Cup titles including the recent one in South Africa, Lanning is also the most successful captain in cricket history with five ICC World Cups to her name. Upon reaching, Lanning shared her thoughts on being named as the captain of the Delhi franchise saying it’s a proud moment for her to lead the side, and that she would give her best and enjoy herself in the process.

She added saying the introduction of the WPL makes all the right sense given how the women’s cricket is moving ahead in today’s age. Lanning added saying the WPL will only grow with time and she’s very excited to get associated with something like this.

"WPL is a massive moment for the sport; it's the logical next step and makes a lot of sense. Cricket in India is people's lives and the fact that WPL is up and running, and to be involved in something like this, is amazing. It's only going to grow in the coming years," she added.

Out for dinner with his friend, Shaw was attended by a fan who asked for a selfie. At first, the Indian opener agreed but when he was interrupted again, for more pictures, he asked a group of fans that had gathered around to leave him and complained to the manager of a five-star hotel in&nbsp;Mumbai. Shaw called the manager and asked him to take charge. When the manager asked the people to leave the restaurant, they were waiting for Shaw to come out and caught hold of him, and his friend,&nbsp;at a traffic signal. A huge scene was created as they vandalised Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav’s car with baseball bats by smashing the front and rear windows. In addition, the dashing opener's friend was also asked to pay INR 50,000 to settle the matter; as mentioned&nbsp;in the police complaint.

As a result, the Oshiwara&nbsp;Police have booked as many as eight people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly and using weapons for offences - 143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504, 506. As per reports, there were two fans -- a woman and a man -- involved in the case. The lady, an Instagram model named Sapna Gill's lawyer spoke to the media after the incident and dropped a huge bomb. He claimed that&nbsp;Shaw assaulted the woman. Hence, it seems that the case is not going to die down anytime soon.

The Delhi-based franchise have assembled a solid squad with a mix of young and experienced players. After acquiring the likes of star Indian players in Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma along with Australia captain Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals bought talented young players in the second half of the WPL 2023 Player Auction.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Delhi Capitals' Chairman &amp; Co-owner Parth Jindal expressed that he is very happy and excited with the make-up of the Delhi Capitals squad for the inaugural edition of the WPL. "We had a very good auction, with the right blend of young and experienced players in the squad. I am very excited about the Indian players that we have managed to pick. And, also excited to get the most renowned foreign players into the squad," he stated in a release.

Delhi Capitals assemble strong squad for inaugural Women's Premier League 2023

The first-ever Women's Premier League (WPL) auction is underway in Mumbai amid much fanfare as the five franchises battle to buy the best players available. While marquee names such as Indian opener Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur won big bucks, the auction did throw some surprises as some famed players went unsold. Among those who so far have not been bought by any franchise are Kiwi all-rounder Suzie Bates, Englishwomen Danni Wyatt, and Heather Knight, Aussie seamer Megan Schutt and Indian leggie Poonam Yadav. The inaugural season of the WPL is all set to begin on March 4 in Mumbai.

Earlier, Smriti Mandhana became the first woman player ever to be sold. The southpaw went almost seven times her base price - &nbsp;INR 50 Lakh - and was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping sum of INR 3.4 Crores. The opening batswoman stirred quite a bidding war between RCB and Mumbai Indians with RCB coming triumphant in the end.

Mumbai, unfazed by Mandhana bidding, managed to get Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The skipper who had a base price tag of INR 50 Lakh, eventually fetched INR 1.8 Crores. Among other Indian players, Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a match-winning inning of 53 not out off just 38 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing ICC World T20, was bought by Delhi Capitals. Rodrigues, with a base price of INR 50 Lakh, was sold for a staggering INR 2.2 Crores.

Among the foreign players, Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and Englishwoman Nat Sciver-Brunt were sold for INR 3.2&nbsp;Crores each. Gardner went to Gujarat Giants while Nat Sciver was bought by Mumbai Indians. The other big foreign names sold at auction were Aussie Ellyse Perry, New Zealander Sophie Devine, Protea Shabnim Ismail, and West Indian Deandra Dottin.

A total of 449 players went under the hammer at the start of the auction for 90 spots in five franchises. The teams bidding for players are Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz. All the matches of the event are scheduled to be held in Mumbai.

Mumbai, unfazed by Mandhana bidding, managed to get Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The skipper who had a base price tag of INR 50 Lakh, eventually fetched INR 1.8 Crores. Among other Indian players, Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a match-winning inning of 53 not out off just 38 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing ICC World T20, was bought by Delhi Capitals. Rodrigues, with a base price of INR 50 Lakh, was sold for a staggering INR 2.2 Crores. Among the foreign players, Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and Englishwoman Nat Sciver-Brunt were sold for INR 3.2 Crores each. Gardner went to Gujarat Giants while Nat Sciver was bought by Mumbai Indians. The other big foreign names sold at auction were Aussie Ellyse Perry, New Zealander Sophie Devine, Protea Shabnim Ismail, and West Indian Deandra Dottin. A total of 449 players went under the hammer at the start of the auction for 90 spots in five franchises. The teams bidding for players are Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz. All the matches of the event are scheduled to be held in Mumbai. ×

The former English domestic cricketer has also been at the helm with the Melbourne Stars in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and also with Surrey women's side.

Coming to Batty's staff - the former India International Hemlata Kala -&nbsp;an ex-chief selector,&nbsp;has great experience of 78 ODIs, seven Tests and one T20I behind her. On the other hand, Keightley currently is the head coach of WBBL's Sydney Thunder side and has also coached Perth Scorchers as well. She has had a decade-long international career in which she played 82 ODIs, nine Tests and one T20I.&nbsp;

Keightley had&nbsp;also held&nbsp;reins of England women's side, and under her watch, the team made it to the finals of the ICC 2022 ODI World Cup also. She stepped down in August last year from the position.

Meanwhile, the auction for Women's Premier League is all set for February 13 in Mumbai where all the matches of the league will also be played.

After serving as the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) chief, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is set to commence a new role. Ganguly is set to return to the Delhi Capitals&nbsp;(DC) camp as reportedly he will become the franchise's new Director of Cricket and will oversee operations of all three teams under them. During the IPL 2019 edition, Ganguly was associated with the Delhi camp as the team mentor. All the 10&nbsp;Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on Tuesday (November 15) announced their final list of released and retained players ahead of the 2023 mini-auction. A number of big names were let go of by the 10 franchises as they prepare to strengthen their squads with new additions at the mini-auction next month.

Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad were the top three teams to release the most number of players while Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) let go of only five players each. There were some surprise releases as both Sunrisers and Punjab Kings parted ways with their respective captains from the last season.

Sunrisers released Kane Williamson, who was retained last year for a whopping Rs 14 crore, while Punjab Kings let go of Mayank Agarwal, who had replaced KL Rahul as captain in IPL 2022. Two legends of IPL, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard were also released by their respective teams Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, bringing an end to a glorious association.

While Pollard announced his retirement from IPL stating that he will return as the team's batting coach next season, Bravo is yet to decide his future after being released. A number of big names were let go of by the 10 franchises as they prepare to strengthen their squads with new additions at the mini-auction next month. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad were the top three teams to release the most number of players while Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) let go of only five players each. There were some surprise releases as both Sunrisers and Punjab Kings parted ways with their respective captains from the last season. Sunrisers released Kane Williamson, who was retained last year for a whopping Rs 14 crore, while Punjab Kings let go of Mayank Agarwal, who had replaced KL Rahul as captain in IPL 2022. Two legends of IPL, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard were also released by their respective teams Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, bringing an end to a glorious association. While Pollard announced his retirement from IPL stating that he will return as the team's batting coach next season, Bravo is yet to decide his future after being released. Evin Lewis, Jason Holder, Alex Hales, and Pat Cummins were some other high-profile players released by their respective teams.
