Delhi Capitals (DC) are at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2024. After five games, they have managed just one win and lost four. Thus, Rishabh Pant & Co. have to revamp at the earliest before they fall way behind the playoffs race. Amid all this, there are more miseries for the one-time finalists as star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out for at least one more week due to injury concerns. Marsh missed DC's previous game, versus Mumbai Indians (MI), where they lost by 29 runs, in a high-scoring contest, due to hamstring issues. Now, it seems he will miss a lot more games.

Pravin Amre, part of the DC coaching staff, shed light on Marsh's injury and said after his side's loss to MI, "A few of our players are injured, and the worrying sign is Mitch Marsh. He has gone for a scan, and the physios will give us a report in a week's time. Then we will come to know what the exact situation is. Whether he can (play the entire season) or not depends on the reports."

Marsh's unavailability is not only a concern for Pant-led Delhi camp but also for the Australian team, with the T20 World Cup 2024 edition to kickoff soon after the IPL. Marsh is likely to lead the one-time winners at the mega event, hence, his absence will be a huge blow.

Amre also opined that DC are struggling due to plenty of injury concerns. In this regard, he added, "We have to start winning but have been set back by a few injuries. In the first game, Ishant (Sharma) couldn't bowl two overs. Then Mukesh got injured. Kuldeep has not played three games. Marsh has a hamstring injury. They are our main players, and whoever comes (in for them), they are not as effective because it is like A players vs B players there."

DC will now lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 26 of IPL 2024 and will be desperate to add two points in their kitty.

IPL 2024: More miseries for DC as star all-rounder ruled out for at least one more week due to injury

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting addressed the elephant in the room, saying his team's performance has been in shambles following their latest loss at the hands of Mumbai Indians, and for them to think of the playoffs, they must win their remaining matches in IPL 2024. With four losses in five contested games thus far, Delhi sits in the bottom half of the points table.

Delhi has had some injury concerns earlier, and their selected XIs in most games failed to click, leaving the franchise’s chances of qualifying for the top four hanging by a thin thread. Ponting said he will still ensure his team leaves no stone unturned in its efforts to win the remaining matches and stay alive in the race for the playoffs.

"Now, it comes down to a nine-game tournament (for us). We have got to win eight of our next nine games -- as simple as that," said Ponting in his post-match address to the team in the DC dressing room.

Under Rishabh Pant’s leadership, Delhi failed to prosper; however, Ponting is not ready to drop the guards yet, saying they plan to pick themselves up from here and prepare for the Lucknow tie on April 12.

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals’ form worries coach Ricky Ponting, addresses it as ‘9-game tournament’ after MI loss

Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season after beating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 29 runs on April 7. MI bowlers didn't let DC keep up the run rate and Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with a searing yorker to DC batter Prithvi Shaw. The DC opener was looking to take the game on with 40-ball 66 before being dismissed by Bumrah.

Chasing a mammoth 235, DC were rocked early after David Warner departed in the fourth over with 22 on board. Shaw then added 88 runs for the second wicket with Abhishek Porel (31-ball 41) before Bumrah dismissed him in the 12th over. It was dipping yorker, angled in, which went past Shaw's defence and uprooted his leg-stump. Have a look at the video here:

IPL 2024: WATCH | Jasprit Bumrah's searing yorker to dismiss DC batter Prithvi Shaw in MI's maiden win

Mumbai Indians secured their first win of the 2024 IPL campaign on Sunday (Apr 7), beating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 29 runs after posting a massive 235-run target. Tristan Stubbs (71*) waged a lone battle but none of the other batters could stand beside him and take the war to MI.

DC's chase was off to a poor start as David Warner departed in the fourth over after struggling to come to terms with the pace of the wicket. The Australian was uncharacteristic in his shot-making and eventually paid the price for it by holing out to a gentle dibbly-dobbler from Romario Shepherd.

With Warner gone, Prithwi Shaw joined forces with Abishek Porel and the duo managed to stitch a 49-ball 88-run partnership but never really threatened to take the game away from MI. Shaw wasn't at his fluent best but still gave a decent account of himself to suggest he deserved a permanent spot in the playing XI.

Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show with the ball for MI as he struck in successive overs to kill any hope of a DC resurgence. The Indian speedster finished the quota of four overs with figures reading 2/22.

Bumrah was ably supported by Gerald Coetzee who picked up four wickets and ensured that DC did not get a whiff of the victory. Meanwhile, Stubbs remained unbeaten at the end and only if other batters had stepped up, he could have guided DC near the total.

Just when it looked like MI would miss out on going past the 200-run mark, both Tim Davids and Shepherd stepped up on the gas. The duo scored 51 runs in the last 12 deliveries to guide MI to an above-par total.

According to Espncricinfo, it is thought that Kuldeep has been advised to not play in the upcoming match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) so that he could be fit for future matches. In his two matches so far he has figures of 2/20 against Punjab Kings and 1/41 against Rajasthan Royals. However, since the latter game, he has not made it to the squad and was unavailable as an impact substitute as well. This clearly indicates that Kuldeep is not one hundred percent fit for the 2020 IPL runners-up.

T20 World Cup in prospect

The 29-year-old will be keeping an eye out for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. He will likely board the flight for Team India for the tournament. Kuldeep has been one of the important members of the Indian squad and was also part of the 2023 ODI World Cup. His batting ability in the role of a pitch-hitter is also another key area where selectors could edge him over Ravi Bishnoi in the squad.

IPL 2024: Kuldeep Yadav to continue recovery from groin niggle, unlikely to play against Mumbai Indians

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Shane Watson is hoping that the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led unit will learn from their mistakes during their 20-run loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) and return to winning ways when they face hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 18 of IPL 2024, on Friday (April 5), in Hyderabad. Watson feels CSK will not be hesitant to promote MS Dhoni up the order after the veteran made a brilliant 16-ball 37* in his side's unsuccessful 192-run chase versus Delhi in match 13, on March 31.

Chennai were in the hunt during their 192-run chase versus Rishabh Pant & Co. after Ajinkya Rahane gave them a platform with a 30-ball 45. However, the asking rate kept going up and ordinary knocks from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja as well as Sameer Rizvi's golden duck dented them before Dhoni's blistering cameo. Nonetheless, it was not enough for them to win the game as they ended with 171-6. Following his knock, many believed Chennai missed a trick by sending Dhoni at No. 8, when they needed 72 off 23 balls.

Watson, however, believes that the Yellow Army is one side that learns from its mistakes instantly and, hence, will use Dhoni up the order if the situation arises going ahead after the DC clash.

Ahead of CSK's away game versus SRH, Watson said, "CSK will be learning from the little things that went wrong against Delhi in their last game and make the most of the things that went incredibly well. One thing was Dhoni, the way he batted, coming in late in the game, which will mean that hopefully, he'll move up the order when an opportunity presents itself, because he batted as well as I've seen him for a long time."

"The lessons that CSK learned, that's the reason why they've been so successful for so long because they'll find out little elements they need to get better, they need to execute better and where they went wrong and they'll learn from that. So they'll be ready to go against Hyderabad," he added.

Dhoni made an impact with the bat in IPL 2023, with useful cameos, and has started in a similar manner this season.

India and Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit and will be joining his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise soon. The batter has been out since injuring his ankle in T20I series against South Africa in December last year. He was initially set to be out for seven weeks but a hernia operation after ankle injury delayed his return.

The batter, however, has now been cleared to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The news was also confirmed by a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source to the news outlet Indian Express.

KKR eventually finished with the second-highest score in the league history at 272/7. Also Read: Eoin Morgan lauds Rishabh Pant's recovery after DC captain hits second successive fifty of IPL 2024 For them, it all started at the top with Sunil Narine once again batting explosively after opening the batting. Narine scored a belligerent 85 off just 39 balls, hitting seven fours and as many sixes. Narine's opening partner Phil Salt although was dismissed early, scoring 18 off 12. KKR sent debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi to replace Salt and the rookie blazed his way to 54 off just 27 balls. Towards the end, Rinku Singh also teed off for 26 in eight balls. Chasing the mammoth total, DC were never in the hunt after being reduced to 33/4 inside five overs. Skipper Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs then added 93 runs for the fifth wicket in just 47 balls to give Delhi a glimmer of hope. After Pant (55 off 25) and Stubbs (54 off 32 balls) got out, DC were effectively done in the game. They were finally bowled out for 166 in 17.2 overs, losing the game by 106 runs. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy took three wickets each while Mitchell Starc chipped in with two. Narine was aptly judged Player of the Match for his 85 and a wicket. This was KKR's third win in three matches and they now sit atop the points table. DC, on the other hand, have slipped to the ninth place in the 10-team table with one win and three losses in four games.

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant fined 1.2 million rupees after DC's win over CSK. Here's why

Led by a lethal opening burst from Khaleel Ahmed, Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai Super Kings to secure their first win of the IPL 2024 campaign. Defending a target of 192, CSK needed a rocking start from their on-song openers but both Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to get going and departed inside the first three overs.

From thereon, it was an uphill battle all the way through for CSK who fell short by 20 runs in the end, despite a late surge from MS Dhoni (37) and Ravindra Jadeja (21). The former CSK skipper walked out to bat for the first time this season and treated the Vizag crowd to some delicious stroke-making.

While the openers departed cheaply, the middle-order tried its best to keep up with the required run-rate but the pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Daryly Mitchell struggled against a disciplined bowling lineup. Mitchell lost his shape a few times trying to force the issue and eventually departed against Axar Patel who caught a sharp one off his own bowling.

Playing at the new home ground, Capitals came out of the blocks in blistering manner, courtesy of David Warner and freshly recalled Prithvi Shaw. The duo stitched a 93-run partnership by the halfway mark, forcing Ruturaj to make quick changes to the bowling queue.

Just when it seemed like DC were running away with the match, Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana pulled a rabbit out of the hat by plucking a stunner in the short third-man region to send Warner home.

Pathirana's heroics in the field did not stop there as he came in to bowl and cleaned up Mitchell Marsh as well Tristan Stubbs in the same over. The Australian all-rounder was starting to tee off before Pathirana darted in his slingy, pacy yorker at the base of the stumps which Marsh could not dig out.

Despite the setbacks, DC skipper Rishabh Pant (52) kept coming at the bowlers and compiled his first fifty after returning to professional cricket, post the horrific car accident. His innings was perhaps the difference between a win and a loss for the Capitals that desperately needed to get off the mark

IPL 2024: Prithvi Shaw to play vs CSK? DC coach Ricky Ponting drops big hint

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) faced Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 9 of IPL 2024 on Thursday (March 28), at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Opting to bowl first, DC had RR reeling at 33-3 before Riyan Parag's magnificent 84*, off 49 balls, took his side to 185-5. Later, Delhi only managed 173 for 5 to lose their second straight game early in the season.

Following their loss, former Australia cricketer Tom Moody criticised the DC thinktank, who have not include Prithvi Shaw in both their games so far. Ex-Indian opener Wasim Jaffer, during the same discussion, also slammed the team management for not trusting Shaw and not including him in the XI despite not releasing him in the auction as well.

"It doesn't make sense due to the fact that you've got an Indian international player (Prithvi Shaw) in the dugout. Yes, he hasn't performed in the IPL like we had all hoped he would, but you can't score runs from the dugout," Tom Moody said on ESPNcricinfo.

Ahead of the RR clash, DC's director of cricket Sourav Ganguly opined on the management's call to drop Shaw. He told the reporters, "Prithvi Shaw is an opener. We decided to open with Marsh and Warner and Ricky Bhui is a middle-order batter. So they bat at different positions. So it's actually not Bhui for sure. It's a different opening combination, they opened for Australia and they have done well together. So we decided to do that."

Jaffer, however, did not buy into the logic. He stated that there was no point retaining him ahead of the auction and then not making him a part of the playing XI.

Notably, Shaw managed only 106 runs in the last IPL season from eight matches, his worst-ever season in the tournament. However, David Warner and Rishabh Pant kept the scoreboard ticking before the former was dismissed by a superb fielding show in the wide slips by Sandeep Sharma. Warner missed out on his fifty and was sent packing on 49 while Pant was dismissed for a below-par 28 off 26.

DC were restricted to 173/5 in their 20 overs with Avesh Khan’s final over being the crucial factor. He gave only four runs when DC needed 17 runs to win the match. His precise show helped RR register back-to-back wins.

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals did not have the best starts as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (5), Sanju Samson (15) and Jos Buttler (11) early. However, it was the batting display from Riyan Parag that stole the spotlight as he scored 84 off 45 to take RR to 185/5. After being 36/3 at one stage, RR looked in poor touch, however, Parag was given a helping hand by Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Dhruv Jurel (20) which helped them reach the big total.

IPL 2024: Riyan Parag's blistering knock helps RR to back-to-back wins, DC lose on Pant's landmark appearance

Riyan Parag stood tall with a magnificent 84 not out in match 9 of the IPL 2024 edition, on Thursday (March 28), as Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Parag has coped up with severe criticism over the years ever since he debuted in IPL, for the Royals, in 2019 season. While he has had some success, he was always slammed for his inconsistency. However, he started the ongoing edition with 29-ball 43, versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), before smashing his highest IPL score on Thursday evening.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Parag -- who won the Player-of-the-Match award for his blistering knock, laced with 7 fours and 6 sixes at 186.67 -- recalled his struggles in the run-up to the game. The right-hander revealed that he was sick prior to the game and had to take painkillers to play against Rishabh Pant & Co.

Parag said, "I’ve had to work very hard for the last three days. I was in bed, I was sick and I just got up today with painkillers, etc. and I could still manage today. So I'm really happy for myself."

I think that has a lot to do with the type of season I've had as well. I think you get a lot of confidence from getting runs in the domestic season."

Parag's knock has silenced his critics, at least for the time being. RR, who are now at the second spot with four points, will face a winless Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 1 (Monday).

DC 2024 Full Updated squad: Delhi Capitals probable playing XI, replacement, Captain, schedule for IPL 2024

Former Australian Test captain Tim Paine lavished huge praise on Rishabh Pant and is hopeful that the keeper-batter would be fully fit for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will tour Australia later this year for a five-match Test series, which gets underway on November 22 in Perth. Pant marked his return to competitive cricket after 14 months, following a horrific car crash in 2022, during Delhi Capitals' (DC) IPL 2024 season-opener, where they lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets. On his comeback, DC captain Pant managed a 13-ball 18 and held onto a catch as well as accounted for a stumping.

Paine spoke at length on Pant and revealed that he enjoys his playing style, while also recalling his cheeky banter with the keeper-batter during the 2018/19 series in Australia. Speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket, Paine stated he was very happy to see Pant back on the field. He said, "It certainly did. A lot has been said about the ordeal he went through and how close he was to losing a leg. Just to see him walk back onto the field, as a cricket fan and as a fan of Rishabh. I know we had our banter back and forth, it was really cheeky and good fun. I have always had fun chatting with him off the field, enjoyed watching him play."

'He played cricket like I always wanted to but I didn't have the courage'

Paine further added on Pant, "He played cricket like I always wanted to. I didn't have the courage, to take the game on or even the skill. I certainly appreciate what he brings to the game, the joy he brings to the Indian cricket team fans. I can't wait to keep watching him and hopefully, he is fit and well enough to make it to Australian shores for the summer."

I have always had fun chatting with him off the field, enjoyed watching him play." I didn't have the courage, to take the game on or even the skill. I certainly appreciate what he brings to the game, the joy he brings to the Indian cricket team fans. I can't wait to keep watching him and hopefully, he is fit and well enough to make it to Australian shores for the summer." BGT 2024/25: Tim Paine hopes Indian star Rishabh Pant can be fit for upcoming Tests in Australia

DC Squad for IPL 2024: England star Harry Brook has opted to join County Championship side Yorkshire for the start of the upcoming season after having withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Brook who was set to feature for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season, withdrew from the tournament due to the death of his grandmother Pauline. Brook had earlier withdrawn from the five-match Test series against India with his grandmother being ill during that period. However, he will now return to competitive cricket for the County Championship.

Brook to feature for Yorkshire

"Now that Brooky isn't going to the IPL, I suspect he's going to be available to us for the first few games, including Leicestershire," head coach Ottis Gibson told the club website.

"He loves playing for us, and Rooty is also going to be available for some games in that early period. Having those two playing for us would be special."

Brook has endured a troublesome past few months after his grandmother was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. This led to Brook being unavailable for the Test series against India and had to withdraw at the last moment. However, he was still in contention to play in the IPL where he was bought by the Capitals for INR 4 crore (£380,000) during December 19 auctions.

Another reason for Brook’s unavailability for the IPL was the workload management as the defending T20 World Cup champions prepared to retain their crown. Had he played in the IPL and the India Test series, he would have been playing relentless cricket in the build-up to the T20 World Cup which starts on June 1 in the USA and West Indies.

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has backed Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw to do well in the upcoming IPL 2024 season, which kicks off on March 22 (Friday). Shaw has been a part of the DC franchise since IPL 2018, when it was known as the Delhi Daredevils. However, he hasn't had a great time in the tournament since 2021. In the last edition, the right-hander only managed 106 runs in eight matches at an average of 13.25 and a strike-rate of 124.71. He was later dropped from the playing XI.
On his YouTube channel, Hogg said, "Ponting will firstly address Prithvi Shaw's form. He is not living up to his expectations at the moment. He has got to change the way he goes about his business, he has got to gain confidence."

DC 2024 updated squad: IPL 2024 Delhi Capitals probable playing XI, ruled out & replacement, Captain, schedule

The Royal Challengers Bangalore finally ended their trophy drought.

For the first time in the franchise’s history, they have won a trophy – a Women’s Premier League title as Smriti Mandhana-led women’s team defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in a one-sided WPL final in Delhi on Sunday (March 17). From former RCB IPL legend Chris Gayle to the ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell, who plays in the middle order for the franchise, everyone reacted to RCB’s maiden title win at any level.

Molineux triggers Delhi’s collapse

After the start the home side got in the final, with Captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma adding 64 for the first wicket inside eight overs, Delhi looked like putting up a huge total on the board. RCB’s Molineux, however, had different plans.

The left-arm orthodox spinner made inroads in her first over by picking three wickets, including Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey. Asha Sobhana picked two wickets in the middle overs before Shreyanka Patil bagged Lanning (trapped in the front earlier) and later returned with three wickets in the end to end DC’s innings on just 113.

Mandhana, Perry see RCB home

Captain Smriti Mandhana scored 31 while her opening partner Sophie Devine slammed 32 as RCB remained in the driver’s seat from the word go.

After both departed, Ellyse Perry completed the formalities with her unbeaten 35 as RCB completed the chase in the final over to lift their maiden WPL title.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first in the all-important WPL final. The star pair of Shafali Verma and Captain Meg Lanning got the home side to a blistering start, completing 50 inside the first six overs. Verma was the aggressor of the two, smashing fours and sixes at will.

When both looked like taking the game to the next level, Sophie Molineux picked three wickets in her first over to derail DC’s momentum. The left-arm orthodox removed Verma on the first ball caught in deep on 44 and then claiming Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey in successive balls.

Royal Challengers Bangalore clinch WPL 2024 title, beat Delhi Capitals in one-sided final

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) have roped in Australian batting talent Jake Fraser-McGurk for the upcoming season after star South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was unable to join the squad due to injury. Fraser-McGurk, having represented Australia in two ODIs will head to the Capitals side and will work with fellow Aussie and coach Ricky Ponting. Ngidi's absence will certainly be a setback for the 2020 IPL runners-up as they will be weakened in the bowling department.

Delhi announce replacement for Ngidi

"Delhi Capitals (DC) named all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for Lungisani Ngidi for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024."

"Ngidi, who has played 14 IPL matches and has 25 wickets against his name, was ruled out of the TATA IPL 2024 due to injury."

"Jake Fraser-McGurk has played 2 ODIs for Australia. He joins DC for his reserve price of INR 50 Lakh," read the statement from IPL.

With exactly a week to go for the start of IPL 2024, Delhi had a choice to make to replace the Proteas pacer. However, in a surprise move, Delhi opted to bring in a batter in place of a bowler to strengthen the side. The move made sense after England batter Harry Brook pulled out of the competition.

Interestingly, Fraser-McGurk is not new to the franchise having played for them during the recently concluded ILT20. Representing the Dubai Capitals, Fraser-McGurk scored 109 runs with a top score of 51 and a staggering strike rate of 213.72.

The last 48 hours have been interesting for the Delhi Capitals with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing Rishabh Pant fit for IPL. Meanwhile, Brook’s withdrawal came in as a setback for the side.

DC start against Punjab Kings

DC will start their campaign against Punjab Kings on Saturday (Mar 23) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. The home fans in Delhi, however, won’t be able to see Pant in action at least in the first phase of the tournament. Delhi will play three away matches during the first phase of the IPL 2024 while their remaining two matches (technically home games) will be played in Visakhapatnam. The upcoming general elections in India have forced the above-mentioned adjustments for Delhi Capitals.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) have roped in Australian batting talent Jake Fraser-McGurk for the upcoming season after star South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was unable to join the squad due to injury.

🚨 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 🚨 Australia's young sensation 𝗝𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿-𝗠𝗰𝗚𝘂𝗿𝗸 is all set to don the DC colours 🔵🔴 for #IPL2024 🫶🏼 He replaces 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗶 𝗡𝗴𝗶𝗱𝗶 who has been ruled out due to an injury 🔻 #YehHaiNayiDilli #JakeFraserMcGurk pic.twitter.com/FqxweYmNt9 — Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) March 15, 2024 × Delhi announce replacement for Ngidi "Delhi Capitals (DC) named all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for Lungisani Ngidi for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024."
