BGT 2024/25: Tim Paine hopes Rishabh Pant can be fit for Ind-Aus Tests
Former Australian Test captain Tim Paine lavished huge praise on Rishabh Pant and is hopeful that the keeper-batter would be fully fit for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will tour Australia later this year for a five-match Test series, which gets underway on November 22 in Perth. Pant marked his return to competitive cricket after 14 months, following a horrific car crash in 2022, during Delhi Capitals' (DC) IPL 2024 season-opener, where they lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets. On his comeback, DC captain Pant managed a 13-ball 18 and held onto a catch as well as accounted for a stumping.
Paine spoke at length on Pant and revealed that he enjoys his playing style, while also recalling his cheeky banter with the keeper-batter during the 2018/19 series in Australia. Speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket, Paine stated he was very happy to see Pant back on the field. He said, "It certainly did. A lot has been said about the ordeal he went through and how close he was to losing a leg. Just to see him walk back onto the field, as a cricket fan and as a fan of Rishabh. I know we had ourbanter back and forth, it was really cheeky and good fun. I have always had fun chatting with him off the field, enjoyed watching him play."

'He played cricket like I always wanted to but I didn't have the courage'
Paine further added on Pant, "He played cricket like I always wanted to. I didn't have the courage, to take the game on or even the skill. I certainly appreciate what he brings to the game, the joy he brings to the Indian cricket team fans. I can't wait to keep watching him and hopefully, he is fit and well enough to make it to Australian shores for the summer."
Pant is now keen on havinga great run in IPL 2024 to have a chance to feature in India's squad for the T20 World Cupin the West Indies and USA, in June. Post that, he will also target the Australia Tests Down Under, where he has 624 runs in 7 Tests at an average of 62.40 including a hundred and two fifties.

On Tuesday (March 26), Cricket Australia officially announced the full schedule of the five Tests between India and Australia. Perth, Adelaide (day-night Test), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney will host the five Tests, respectively, from November 22 to January 3, 2025.
