Per DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal, Pant leaving the IPL team he captained the previous season was never about the money. But Badani’s comments tell a different story.</p>

<p>Pant entered the IPL 2025 mega auction for a purpose, and with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bagging him for a whopping $3.18 million (INR 27 crore), making him the costliest player ever, it perhaps served it.</p>

<p>Badani also admitted that Delhi was always keen to retain Pant in the first place.</p>

<p>However, the India keeper-batter insisted on entering the auction and testing the market, believing chances of him getting for money were higher, which eventually happened.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Yes (Delhi Capitals were interested in retaining him). He said he wanted to go to the auction and test the market. He said he had a feeling that there were chances he would get more money than the highest cap for retained player, which is Rs 18 crore."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And, at the end of the day, he felt he was worth more. And the market said the same thing. He got Rs 27 crore. Good for him. He is a very good player. We will obviously miss him. But, life goes on," Badani added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a social media statement earlier, Pant had said the decision not to continue playing for DC wasn’t motivated by money.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amre, who worked with Shaw at Delhi Capitals during the batter’s last run in the IPL, commented on his current status, saying Shaw could have earned $3.5 million (INR 30-40 crore) by the age of 23. Amre added because Shaw failed to handle the glamour and money that IPL brought along, he has himself to blame.</p>

<p>While Shaw’s contemporaries, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, are top players for India and their respective IPL teams, earning in crores, Shaw remained unsold despite his lower base price this time (INR 75 lakh).</p>

<p>"It's so disappointing to see that a talent like him is going in reverse direction... Even today, he can hit a 30-ball fifty in the IPL. Maybe he couldn't handle the glamour and money, the side-effects of the IPL. His example can be a case study in Indian cricket... Talent alone can't take you to the top. The three Ds - discipline, determination and dedication - are important," Amre said of Shaw during a chat with Times of India (TOI).</p>

<p>Amre continued how he (three years ago) gave Shaw Vinod Kambli’s example, hoping for him to learn from his experience and try and work harder to avoid suffering the same fate; however, as destiny had it, Shaw seemed to be on the same track.</p>

<p>"Three years back, I gave him Vinod Kambli's example. I've seen Kambli's downfall from close quarters. It's not easy to teach certain things to this generation. Thanks to being retained by DC, Prithvi must have earned Rs 30-40 crore by the time he was 23. Will even an IIM graduate get that type of money? When you earn so much at such a young age, you tend to lose focus," Amre continued.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Amre wants Shaw to take this snub as a positive, as he has age on his side and the talent to bring him back on track.</p>

There were things that we expected of Rishabh that we did not get last season or in the previous seasons and we gave him honest feedback on that," Parth said.</p>

<p>"We both, GMR, JSW, we are one family. We are one, we are united and it was a decision we took. We gave him feedback. Feedback was not taken as we expected it to be taken. He took an emotional call. He has also grown up in this franchise and he was a young boy when he started," he added.</p>

<p>The batter, however, went on to become the costliest buy in IPL history after being acquired by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for INR 27 crore ($3.21 million). While DC tried to use Right-to-Match (RTM) option to retain the southpaw, the price became too steep for them.</p>

<p>With 46 players retained by the 10 franchises before the&nbsp;October 31 deadline, franchises are now gearing up for the auctions as they try to build their squad for IPL 2025. During the retention window, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, SunRisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants retained five players while Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals used all six retention cards. While Pant faces hefty punishment, the remaining DC players - including the impact substitute – are fined INR 12 Lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lesser.</p>

<p>As it was&nbsp;Delhi’s&nbsp;third offence this season, the&nbsp;punishment’s&nbsp;magnitude is so high.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Delhi-based outfit&nbsp;filed an appeal&nbsp;against this ruling, which&nbsp;was referred&nbsp;to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. Upon looking at it briefly, the Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and stated that the match&nbsp;referee’s&nbsp;decision was final and binding.</p>

<p>This, however, will not help&nbsp;Delhi’s&nbsp;cause of pushing for a playoff spot this season. Following a shallow start to the season, Delhi picked up the pace and kept winning since.
