Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh and suspended for one game for maintaining the slow over-rate against Rajasthan Royals in their match at home in IPL 2024.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh and suspended for one game for maintaining the slow over-rate against Rajasthan Royals in their match at home in IPL 2024. Pant’s DC was 10 minutes behind time at the start of the final over during the RR game, which they won by 20 runs. While Pant faces hefty punishment, the remaining DC players - including the impact substitute – are fined INR 12 Lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lesser. As it was Delhi’s third offence this season, the punishment’s magnitude is so high. Meanwhile, the Delhi-based outfit filed an appeal against this ruling, which was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. Upon looking at it briefly, the Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and stated that the match referee’s decision was final and binding. This, however, will not help Delhi’s cause of pushing for a playoff spot this season. Following a shallow start to the season, Delhi picked up the pace and kept winning since. Although they have six wins and as many losses in 12 contested matches thus far, same as that of CSK and LSG, DC is alive and running in the race for a top-four finish. Meanwhile, returning to competitive cricket for the first time since suffering severe injuries in a road accident on December 30, 2022, Pant managed to find form, scoring 413 runs thus far from 12 outings. Although his strike rate is over 156, Pant hasn’t looked in his elements completely, and understandably so. Having hit 25 sixes and 31 fours thus far, Pant’s best is unbeaten 88 this year. T20 World Cup ready Following his road accident, Pant missed the cricket action last year, including the home World Cup and the Border-Gavaskar series. Pant also missed the England Tests earlier this year, and upon receiving the clearance certificate from the NCA, he got picked in the DC side for IPL 2024. Pant is also named on the team sheet for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA starting June 1, with RR captain Sanju Samson picked as the second-choice keeper. Meanwhile, in Pant's absence, Delhi will have to appoint a new captain for the RCB tie.

The dashing opener from Australia, however, got out in the very next over when he chipped a full toss ball Ravi Ashwin towards the extra cover region. Nonetheless, his blistering innings gave a nice platform for Delhi to keep charging. The DC batters also obliged, finishing 78/2 in the first six overs before posting 221/8 in 20 overs.

After Fraser-McGurk got out, his opening partner Abhishek Porel kept the innings going. Porel eventually got out after scoring 65 off 36 balls - his first fifty in the IPL. By the time Porel got out DC had scored 144 runs in 12.4 overs. After Porel, Rishabh Pant (15 off 13), Gulbadin Naib (19 off 15) and Tristian Stubbs took DC past 200.&nbsp;

It was, however, Stubbs' 20-ball 41 runs innings which ensured the Capitals have a good score to bowl at. For Royals, Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/28 in four overs. Apart from him, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.

DC are currently fighting to stay alive in the race of the playoffs. Before the game against Royals, they had played 11 matches in the league, winning five and losing six. They are sixth on the points table with 10 points.

Delhi Capitals (DC) spinner Kuldeep Yadav says that he now enjoys his bowling despite the batters attacking the bowlers more in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition. The season has seen some great hitting, especially by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) who have breached the previous highest team total of 263 set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) thrice in the season. One of those highest scores came against DC when SRH smashed 266/7 against them in 35th match of the season.

Speaking on the aggressive approach taken by the batters this season, Kuldeep, at a press event, said: "Sometimes you can get hit even on good balls, like it happened to me during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Heinrich) Klaasen and Abhishek hit sixes on good balls. But I believed in my skills, and I also got wickets that day. Now I enjoy my bowling more and I have learned all this from experience."

The spinner, however, said that he bowlers need to be more courageous and need to back their strength against trying to read batter's mind.

"I feel that the bowlers are trying more to read the batters' mind instead of sticking to their strengths. They are trying to bowl where the batter looks a little weak. But I think a bowler should understand his strengths and back his strengths. You can see Jasprit Bumrah, who backs his strengths. The way he bowls, any batter is on the back foot. He dominates the batters mentally. All these things become very important," he added.

As for his own performance, the spinner has taken 12 wickets in eight matches so far, joint-seventh most in the season. Talking about his team, DC are currently sixth on the points table with five wins and six losses from 11 games. They would want to win their remaining three league games to have a shot at the playoffs.

A resurgent Delhi Capitals (DC) will be facing second-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 29 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. DC have bounced back emphatically in the season, winning four of their last five games after losing four from their first&nbsp;five games.

KKR, after starting out the season with three wins on the trot, are having a see-saw moment with three losses and two wins in the last five games. Nonetheless, KKR have played two games less than DC and have same points - giving them a relatively pressure-free situation to play under.

Both the teams are reliant on their batting to win the games as evident by their last few outings. While KKR have gone past 220 in each of their last three innings, DC have done it twice with one being a 199-run score.&nbsp;

The openers from each side, Sunil Narine for KKR and Jake Fraser-McGurk for DC, have been in scintillating form this season. Narine, primarily a bowling all-rounder, has scored 357 runs in eight innings so far, while Fraser-McGurk, playing his first IPL, has smashed 247 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 237.50.

With their batting being almost equal in terms of hitting power, it'll probably come down to the bowlers and how well they can handle the pressure. The venue, Eden Gardens, has seen 200+ scores in eight of the last 10 innings and the batters have been extra brutal with scoring this season.

While KKR have a good mix of domestic and foreign bowlers, DC have Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed who have a better past record against current KKR top order. However, in their last meeting in the IPL 2024, KKR had tore apart DC for 272/7 in 20 overs - third highest score in history of the league.

DC, who are playing their second match in three days, will be hoping to ride on the momentum to keep the playoff hopes alive.

Jake Fraser-McGurk is the most-talked-about name in world cricket, with his exploits for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 speaking for itself. Considering the deadline date for the upcoming T20 World Cup (May 1) is approaching, Jake’s name is said to be discussed within the selection committee, with former stars like Mark Waugh and Michael Clarke backing him to break into the squad. The young right-hander wasn’t even a household name until last year; however, after making headlines for smashing the fastest List-A hundred in just 29 balls (for South Australia last year), he attracted eyeballs from all across. Soon after, he made his international debut against West Indies, hitting 41 off 18 balls in just his second ODI. Although all 10 IPL teams overlooked him at the December auction last year, the Delhi Capitals roped in the 22-year-old as an injury replacement mid-way into the tournament. Of the 10 matches DC played thus far this season, Jake played five, hitting 247 runs, including three fifties – two of which came in 15 or fewer balls. ALSO READ: 'Won't be in my team': Sehwag on Ashwin's lack of wickets; says RR star might go unsold in IPL 2025 auction Former Australia opener Mark Waugh was stunned by Jake’s innings against Mumbai Indians at home, where he smashed 84 off 27 balls, batting at the top. Waugh took to social media, saying Jake must be one of the first names to be on the flight to the Caribbean and the USA for the marquee event. Backing him to take up the opener’s slot, Waugh posted on X, “Should be the first name on the sheet. Absolute certainty to be picked and open the batting in the World Cup.” Should the first name on the sheet. Absolute certainty to be picked and open the batting in the World Cup. — Mark Waugh (@juniorwaugh349) April 28, 2024 × Former Aussie captain Michael Clarke also shared his thoughts on Jake’s potential selection, saying the Geroge Bailey-led selection committee must start considering him for the 20-team tournament. "The selectors have to be thinking about him now, with the team just a few days away from being selected," Michael Clarke said last week, as quoted by cricket.com.au. "It's hard to leave him out, to be honest, the way he's played so far." ‘He’s a risk taker’ Recently-retired ex-Australia captain Aaron Finch also echoed the same, adding Jake’s style of play is that of a risk taker, and with comes a lot of perks. "The way he plays – yes, it's high risk, but high risk is high reward – so you have to make sure you put the right structure around them and almost make their performances just the cherry on top on the rest of the side," Finch said on the Willow Talk podcast recently. Meanwhile, Australia’s final 15 is more or less selected, with one or two additions to the side, including that of Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Delhi Capitals might have found their rhythm back with successive wins this season in IPL, their assistant coach, Pravin Amre, has revealed the return date for two superstars – Ishant Sharma and David Warner. While lanky seamer Ishant struggles with his ageing back, Warner has been absent from the scene since April 12 with a thumb injury. Speaking to the media after his side’s 10-run win against Mumbai Indians at home, the other day, Amre said Ishant will return to full fitness in one week, and Warner could take longer to get a clearance certificate, thus expected to be back in time during the fag end of the tournament. "Warner will take 1-2 weeks to recover. His scans revealed an injury," Amre said. "Ishant has been having back spasms. He will also take a week to recover. By the time we return to Delhi he will be fit,” he continued. ALSO READ: T20 World Cup: Agarkar, Rohit to have informal meeting on team selection in Delhi as deadline date nears However, in Warner’s absence, his compatriot Jake Fraser-McGurk opened the batting and made this tournament his own with his exploits. The young right-hander has scored three fifties in five contested matches thus far, striking at 237.50. He was the architect for Delhi’s win over Mumbai at home, smashing 84 off 27 balls at the top. Speaking highly of him, Amre said with Jake playing for the Dubai Capitals (ILT20) and impressing everyone there, Delhi’s scouting team was keen on having him on the board for the Indian Premier League. "He played three games for Dubai Capitals [in the ILT20], and our scouting team was very keen to have him [for the IPL]," Amre said. "Once we got an opportunity to have a replacement, even though we had a choice between a couple of players, we picked him. He played just three innings [in the ILT20] before leaving to play for Australia, but even in that, he played a couple of match-winning innings. Those knocks were something special. Given he is a young, exciting cricketer, we decided to back him,” he continued. Special talent! Roped in as an injury replacement, McGurk had to wait for the first five games to make his IPL debut and since made headlines with his match-winning knocks. "Yes, he had to wait for four-five games before getting a chance," Amre said. "But even when we were watching him in the nets, he had something different, that X-factor. Even today (on Saturday), he, just opened up the game, and, because of his innings, we were 92 for no loss after six overs." "He is a natural. If you see his set-up, he believes in a stable base. And he has excellent hand speed. And when you are batting in the Powerplay, you have only one fielder on the leg side. So, that's a good area to hit; even a mis-hit can get you a boundary,” Amre said of McGurk. Meanwhile, as things stand, Delhi jumped into the top five on the points table with five wins and as many losses in 10 contested matches thus far, looking strong to press their case for a playoff finish this season. Delhi will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (April 29) in an away game before hosting Rajasthan Royals on May 7.

Delhi Capitals (DC) edged past Gujarat Titans (GT) by four runs in match 40 of the IPL 2024 edition on Wednesday (April 24), at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Opting to bowl first, Shubman Gill-led GT were at the receiving end as Rishabh Pant top-scored with a brilliant 88* along with Axar Patel's 43-ball 66. In reply, Gujarat fought hard -- courtesy of Wriddhiman Saha's 39, Sai Sudharsan's 65, David Miller's 55 and Rashid Khan's 21* -- but ended with 220/8. During the high-scoring affair, Kuldeep Yadav once again made a mark with 2 for 29. Even in DC's last game, where Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) posted 266/7 in the national capital, the wily spinner&nbsp;claimed four scalps.

As a result, Kuldeep is among the leading wicket-takers with 12 wickets from six games. He is fourth in the list of most wickets in the ongoing edition, at an economy rate of 7.62. Thus, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the wrist spinner is now a certainty in India's T20 World Cup squad, which is set to be announced soon. The mega event kicks off in West Indies and USA in June.

Manjrekar feels Kuldeep is comfortable with taking up the responsibility in bowling the tough overs and providing key breakthroughs. Thus, he should be the second&nbsp;spinner after Ravindra Jadeja in India's T20 WC squad.&nbsp;

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar said, "Yes. And this is perhaps Kuldeep Yadav at his peak with regards to his skills, his confidence. You can see now he's out there like a Bumrah or Chahal at his peak. He is commanding that kind of respect. He looks comfortable with the responsibility and champions, you know, those breaks and those moments that you are seeking at the right time."

<h2>Pant's blitzkrieg sinks GT</h2>

DC registered a thrilling victory against GT after Pant's masterful 88 off 43 deliveries ensured that the team finished with an above-par total of 224/4. GT bowlers kept things tight as both openers, Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk, as well as Shai Hope departed in the powerplay overs.&nbsp;

With backs against the wall, Pant joined forces with Axar Patel and the duo cautiously stitched a partnership. It was only in the later half of the innings that Pant exploded and batted GT out of the contest.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Surely at 43/3, we wanted to just keep going and target their main spinners. If we get something, we will take it on and keep rotating the strike," said Pant after the match.&nbsp;

"Every day that I'm in the middle, I feel better. Every hour on the field matters, I love being on the field. I try to give it my 100% and it takes some time sometimes. I think the first six in the match gives me the confidence in a game. The more time I spend in the centre, the better I feel," he added.&nbsp;

Given that Pant has returned to competitive cricket 14 months after his horrific car crash in late 2022, the DC star player has been among runs and is now a strong contender for a berth in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in West Indies and USA in June.

Home side Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Titans by four runs in a thriller that went to the wire. For the hosts, Captain Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Axar Patel starred with the bat, while Kuldeep Yadav remained their go-to-bowler in the high-scoring clash in IPL 2024. For the touring side Gujarat, Sai Sudharsan and David Miller scored fifties, and Rashid Khan played a brilliant cameo, but all went in vain. Delhi batted first against Gujarat, with two pocket-dynamites – Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk, taking the attack to the opposition from ball one. Gujarat’s Sandeep Warrier was on top of the hosts, removing both openers and Shai Hope inside the Powerplay to put their backs against the wall. That, however, couldn’t stop Delhi from launching and finishing with a massive total on the board. ALSO READ: ICC unveils Olympic champion Usain Bolt as 2024 T20 World Cup ambassador An unlikely pair of Axar and Pant got the home side on track and kept increasing the scoring–rate with each passing over. While Axar slammed his first fifty of the season, scoring a gritty 66 off 43 balls, including four sixes and five fours, Captain Pant remained unbeaten 88 off 43 balls. His last-over exploits against Mohit Sharma saw the GT seamer concede the most runs for a bowler in an IPL inning (0/73). 𝙋𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘! Heartbreak for GT Captain Shubman Gill departed early on six, but Sai and Wriddhiman Saha stitched an 82-run stand for the second wicket to keep Gujarat afloat in the chase. Following two quick wickets, GT tried finding momentum but later lost Sai on 65 off 39 balls, with their scorecard reeling at 121 for four inside 13 overs. Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia got out on single digits hurting GT. Young Rasikh Dar Salam leaked runs at the end but was on song throughout, picking three wickets for 44 runs in 4 fours. With GT needing fewer than 20 off the last over, Rashid Khan, with his smoking fours and sixes, brought them close to a brilliant win but couldn’t get the job done as DC won the clash by four runs.

DC vs GT Live Score Full Scorecard: Axar Patel on the first innings

I think it's a phenomenal effort. They finished it off very well. It's good to see we are finishing well. I think I went up the order as the role was to negate the spinners. When Rishabh came out in the middle our plan was to take it deep and try to finish it off well.

I think the mindset is very important. It's important to have a positive mindset against bowlers like Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan. So we thought if it's in our area we will go after it. When we were in the middle we were thinking about 170-180 when the wickets were falling. I believe this is more than enough.

DC vs GT Live Score Full Scorecard: DC finish with 224/4 Oh my god! 31 runs coming off the last over as Capitals sign off with 224 on board, courtesy of captain Rishabh Pant. DC: 224/4 (20) DC vs GT Live Score Full Scorecard: Expensive penultimate over Gill summons Sai Kishore to bowl his first over of the night in the penultimate over and he concedes 22 runs. The two southpaws are batting well with Pant looking in his elements. DC 111-3 (13). IPL 2024, DC vs GT Match Highlights: Agony for GT as DC win thriller at home

Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk has talked highly of his idol and IPL teammate David Warner but confirmed that the 2024 T20 World Cup squad selection is not on his mind. Fraser took IPL 2024 by storm despite coming in as an injury replacement for Lungi Ngidi at Delhi Capitals. The right-handed batter, a newcomer to international cricket, made headlines for his 15-ball fifty against SunRisers Hyderabad in the previous game.

Sharing the dressing room with one of modern-day cricket’s greats, let alone from Australia, Warner, Fraser McGurk said David is approachable, unselfish and a team man. Jake continued saying he has bonded well with Warner, cherishing this blooming friendship.

“Having him here and knowing him quite well, we have got a nice connection, got a beautiful friendship,” Fraser-McGurk said of David Warner in IPL 2024 to AFP.&nbsp;

“I met Davey (David Warner) a while back in the BBL. Then ran some drinks for the Australian one-day team a couple of years back and then played with him in Dubai.”&nbsp;

“When the talk is about the game, then you understand how much experience he has and what he's done. He has time for everyone; he is very unselfish and does what his team need,” he added.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old caught everyone's attention for smashing a record-breaking 29-ball hundred in List-A cricket for South Australia last year. Though none of the 10 teams at the December IPL auction picked him in the first place, his introduction to the IPL opened doors for his chances of breaking into the Australia side for the 2024 T20 World Cup starting June 1.

He, however, admits that squad selection for the 20-team-tournament is not at the forefront of his mind.

"Mitch Marsh was obviously with Delhi, and he said we are going to Barbados and America and all that stuff," said Fraser-McGurk. "I was like, 'Are you playing there?' and he was like, 'No, the World Cup'."

"Obviously, it's not on the forefront of my mind,” the young Aussie batter continued.

<h2>Fraser is a three-format player</h2>

Delhi Capitals’ head coach and Australia great Ricky Ponting said that Jake Fraser is a ‘serious talent’ but admitted that he is far from being a finished product. Ponting added that Jake has it in him to become a three-format player for the Aussies.

"I would love to be able to spend more time with him one-on-one and work on his batting," Ponting said. "I think he can be a three-format player for Australia."

IPL: DC’s Jake Fraser-McGurk talks highly of idol Warner, says he’s not thinking about T20 World Cup selection

Delhi Capitals' swashbuckling batter Tristan Stubbs is optimistic that his side can make a late push to reach the playoffs of the Indian Premier League. The South African youngster also opened up about his chances of making it to South Africa's T20 World Cup Squad in an exclusive conversation with Wion's Nikhil Mathur.

Kuldeep Yadav has been in fine form of late. While he was one of India's vital cogs from 2017-19, things took a turn for the worse post the 2019 ODI World Cup. During the same time, Kuldeep's stocks fell considerably in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was part of the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Having joined the side in 2016, he was a fairly&nbsp;consistent face in the playing XI but his poor form in 2019 led to the spinner being sidelined. In 2019, he ended with only four scalps from nine games before playing just five games from 2020-21. Injuries also led to KKR ignoring Kuldeep.

As a result, Kuldeep went into the mega auction for the 2022 edition and was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC). Since 2022, he has revived himself and claimed 41 wickets so far. He is an integral part of the DC camp, having already claimed ten wickets from five games in the ongoing edition -- most from his side and eighth overall. Recently, Kuldeep recalled his struggling days, from 2019, and rued his lack of experience during his ordinary stint with KKR.&nbsp;

In a recent media interaction, Kuldeep said, "In KKR, I needed guidance but now I don't need it, as now I dictate terms. In 2019, Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni, his national team mentor) had retired that year and I needed guidance. The idea that I have now, has come with experience."

<h2>'Still regret my time in KKR and feel whatever I am doing now, wish I could have done it back then'</h2>

The DC spinner further opined, "I still regret my time in KKR (from 2016-2020) and feel whatever I am doing now, wish I could have done it back then. It still hurts me that had I worked on those skills back then, I could have dominated even more. But it didn't happen back then as experience is something that you get only when you play a lot. When you encounter failure in life, then only you learn and now I am more confident about my skills and at the same time respectful of the fact that opposition can be good too."

The Indian cricketer added, "Back in the day, I didn't do (respect opposition) that. I believed in my skills but then at the same time you need to understand how the batter is playing and that maturity has come, knowing my strength and where to bowl so that it is difficult to hit, and I am working on that."

Not only for DC, Kuldeep has become a regular for India, especially in the longer formats. A sensational run in IPL 2024 can certainly book his ticket for the 2024 T20 World Cup&nbsp;to be held in the West Indies and USA in June. The Indian provisional squad is expected to be out by the end of this month, or by May 1 (deadline for all participating teams).&nbsp;

At present, Rishabh Pant-led DC are set to host the Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 40 of IPL 2024, on Wednesday evening (April 24), at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

IPL 2024: 'Still hurts me' - DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav rues lack of experience while recalling his KKR days

Delhi Capitals (DC) players Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar have hit out at the Impact Player rule, calling it unfair. This comes after DC coach Ricky Ponting and India skipper Rohit Sharma also echoed the same views. While Ponting called the rule a 'nightmare for the coaches,' Rohit said it doesn't help in developing all-rounders for India.

Axar, who plays the role of bowling all-rounder for both DC and India, admitted that his batting order has been affected by the rule.

"Because of the Impact sub rule, everyone gets one more batsman so they think that they will use the batsman in case&nbsp;the batting unit doesn't go well. And whosoever comes to play, they don't take much time and start (hitting) from the first ball because they know that they have a player in seventh or eighth place," Axar said as quoted by news agency PTI.

"That is why I am not a big fan of the rule, because as an allrounder I know that they will either take a proper batsman or a bowler, not an allrounder," he added.

His teammate and fast bowler Mukesh went one step ahead and questioned the relevance of the rule as it is not applicable at the international level.

"If 12 players are not playing at the international level, then what is the need for it in IPL? With 12 players, even if four wickets are down, the next player is not scared of getting out or making the team stable, they come and play their shots. So either the nature of tracks should be changed or 12 players should not be allowed," said Mukesh.

The Impact Player rule has indeed given the teams a chance to maximise the 20 overs. The rule has come in handy for teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who have used Shivam Dube as an impact sub while batting and have gotten good runs out of him.

IPL 2024: 'Should be changed or...,' Delhi Capitals players hit out at Impact Player rule

Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting believes Rishabh Pant's inclusion in India's T20 World Cup squad is a 'no-brainer'. Ponting told WION Sports Correspondent Nikhil Mathur that the Capitals need to win five out of their next six games to make the IPL Playoffs.

Ricky Ponting backs Rishabh Pant to make India's T20 WC squad

Delhi Capitals’ Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting feel keeper-batter Rishabh Pant should play the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA. The attacking left-handed batter returned to competitive cricket for the first time in IPL 2024 since December 2022, when he suffered multiple injuries in a horrific road accident.&nbsp;

While Pant hasn’t looked in his element upon his comeback to the cricket field, and understandably so, DC’s top management feels he still has it in him to deliver for India in the 20-team tournament starting on June 1. Speaking to PTI in New Delhi on Monday (April 22), Ganguly said Pant should be included in India’s 15-man squad and play in the middle order.&nbsp;

"Yes, I think so, Pant should be part of the World Cup squad," Ganguly said in New Delhi on Monday.&nbsp;

"He should bat in the middle order. Where exactly is difficult to say because of match-ups and right-left combinations depending on who bowls. It also depends on the situation,” the former India captain added.

On the other hand, DC’s head coach&nbsp;Ponting&nbsp;feels Pant was a bit apprehensive at the beginning of this season but has felt confident about his keeping and batting since.

Punter also commented on Pant’s confidence, saying the India star trusts his abilities and that he’s too good a player to get dropped from the T20 World Cup squad.

"He's starting to get a bit more trust and belief in his body as well," Ponting said.&nbsp;

"I think early on, he had been a little bit apprehensive as to what he could do, especially with the wicketkeeping side of it. With his batting, coming into the tournament, he had pretty good trust in his abilities."

"I think his batting is getting better and better by the game. I've been asked a lot already over the last couple of weeks, now that he's back and playing, what I think about his World Cup chances. I think he'll be in the squad for sure. I think he's too good of a player and can have too much of an impact on the game,” Ponting continued.&nbsp;

Delhi Capitals will be without the services of allrounder Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the season as the Australian will not return to India. The all-rounder will continue his recovery from a right hamstring niggle back home, head coach Ricky Ponting informed on Monday (Apr 22).

Delhi Capitals will be without the services of allrounder Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the season as the Australian will not return to India. The all-rounder will continue his recovery from a right hamstring niggle back home, head coach Ricky Ponting informed on Monday (Apr 22). Marsh had flown to Australia on April 12 to consult Cricket Australia's medical staff and was scheduled to return for the franchise. However, according to Ponting, the rehab might take a little bit longer. "I don't think he'll be coming back. There's a certain cut off point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could," Ponting told reporters. The former Australian player-turned-coach said Marsh's availability for the upcoming World Cup will not be a concern for the defending champions. "They've been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now. I spoke to him the other day and it seems it's taken a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don't think the T20 World Cup would be an issue." Also read | Mitchell Marsh wins prestigious Allan Border medal, named Australia's ODI Player of the Year as well Marsh's struggles with injuries Up until the niggle ruled him out, Marsh featured in only four matches for DC, scoring 61 in three innings with a high score of 23. He also picked just one wicket while rolling his arms. Notably, this is not the first instance when Marsh has left DC in the lurch due to his injury woes. Last year, DC lost Marsh's services midway through the tournament when he pulled out after playing nine games. DC are currently languishing eighth on the points table with only three wins out of eight. The team led by Rishabh Pant needs to string together a series of wins from hereon to stand a chance of making it to the playoffs. Delhi Capitals squad: Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Sumit Kumar, Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Kumar Kushagra, Praveen Dubey, Lalit Yadav, Lizaad Williams, David Warner, Jhye Richardson, Anrich Nortje, Yash Dhull, Ricky Bhui, Rasikh Dar Salam, Vicky Ostwal, Swastik Chikara.

Australian all-rounder ruled out of IPL 2024 in big blow to Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant said that he expected the dew to play a role in second innings against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match on April 20. DC had won the toss and elected to bowl first against SRH which went against them as they conceded 266 runs in 20 overs.

"The only thought process behind [electing to bowl at the toss] was we thought there will be a bit of dew, which did not come," Pant said at the post-match presentation.&nbsp;

"If we could have restricted them to 220-230 we still had a chance. (The ball) stopped more (on the pitch) in the second innings than what we anticipated. But when you have 260-270 to defend, it gives bowlers confidence," he added.

Pant admitted that powerplay was the difference between the two sides. Notably, SRH went on to score the highest ever powerplay score in all T20s - posting 125 for no loss in the first six overs.

"I think powerplay was one of the differences. They got 120-130 runs in the powerplay and we were catching up throughout the match," he acknowledged.

Notably, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were brutal in the powerplay as they tore apart a bowling attack comprising of Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Head reached his fifty of just 16 balls - joint fastest for SRH along with Abhishek Sharma who achieved the feat&nbsp;few days back.&nbsp;

By the time powerplay was done, SRH had posted highest powerplay score ever with Head batting on 84 off just 26 balls and Abhishek on 40. Hyderabad had also hit 13 fours and 11 sixes in the first 36 balls which translate to four balls going either for a four or a six every over.

In reply, DC had a good powerplay too, scoring 88 runs but eventually were bowled out for 199, losing the match by 67 runs.

IPL 2024: 'We thought there...,' DC skipper Rishabh Pant defends decision to bowl first against SRH

Mumbai Indians (MI) brutally trolled Delhi Capitals (DC) after the latter's loss against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 20. Notably, SRH posted their third 250+ total of the season - 266/7 - against Delhi after doing it against the MI and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier in the tournament.

After the SRH innings, DC, from its official X social media handle, tagged SRH handle and asked 'what did their batters eat in breakfast?' In reply, MI posted a GIF of a famous catchphrase 'Aa Gaya Swad (Got the taste)' of known stand up comedian Abhishek Upmanyu. Have a look at the post below:

DC vs SRH, IPL 2024, Highlights: SRH beat hapless DC by 68 runs

West Indies veteran Brian Lara feels Rishabh Pant’s homecoming in IPL 2024 will be an emotional period for the Delhi Capitals’ Captain. Following playing two matches at their adopted home ground in Vizag earlier this season, Pant’s DC has returned to Delhi (at the Arun Jaitley Stadium) for their evening game against SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday (April 20).

Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the marquee clash between Delhi and Hyderabad, Lara said,

“Getting the opportunity to go home and play in front of your own crowd after so long, it's going to be an emotional period. Rishabh Pant is doing so well in the IPL, his first season back. And it's something that you want to experience as a cricket fan. Rishabh Pant, going back to that stadium, it's going to be just electric. And I think it's going to be an awesome match.”

Meanwhile, having last led Delhi in IPL 2022, Pant suffered a horrific road accident on December 30 of the same year. His car ramped into the dividers before overturning several times and catching fire.&nbsp;

Although the onlookers managed to get Pant out of the car before it got burnt, the India cricketer suffered multiple injuries, sidelining him from on-field cricket for more than a year.

Pant underwent several surgeries, including on both knees, before beginning with rehab and joining the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get in shape for a return to the cricket field. Upon getting treated at the NCA ahead of this season, Pant was declared fit for competitive cricket.&nbsp;

While the DC owners and even Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly insisted that Pant would play as a specialist batter, the attacking left-hander received a clearance certificate from the doctors to keep wickets in IPL 2024.

<h2>Pant returns to form</h2>

Considering it’s not easy for anyone to get back into form right after returning from serious injuries, Pant has done excessively well on that front. Although he began poorly or rather at this pace, Pant gained momentum and form heading into the halfway stage of the tournament.

In seven contested matches thus far, Pant has scored 210 runs, including two fifties, with his highest being 55. While he has looked far from convincing, the attacking batter has a lot to prove, including pressing for his case in India’s T20 World Cup squad in the West Indies and the USA starting June 1.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Delhi sits in the sixth spot on the points table with three wins from seven matches.&nbsp;

Although he began poorly or rather at this pace, Pant gained momentum and form heading into the halfway stage of the tournament. While he has looked far from convincing, the attacking batter has a lot to prove, including pressing for his case in India’s T20 World Cup squad in the West Indies and the USA starting June 1. Meanwhile, Delhi sits in the sixth spot on the points table with three wins from seven matches.

The usually calm and collected Delhi Capitals wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav lost his cool momentarily during the match against Gujarat Titans at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday (Apr 18). Kuldeep got angry at DC teammate Mukesh Kumar after the latter fired an unnecessary throw that could resulted in an overthrow. The incident took place during the eighth over of the innings when Kuldeep was summoned into the attack for the first time by skipper Rishabh Pant. GT's Rahul Tewatia on strike nurdled a ball to backward point and hesitantly called for a single. Miller on the other end obliged before changing his mind and sharing back to the crease. Mukesh sought this as a half-opportunity and took a shy at the stumps. Pant could also be heard yelling on the stump mic, "Maar (hit)", as Mukesh hurtled a full-blooded throw in the direction of Kuldeep who was standing in front of the wickets and failed to collect it cleanly. An irate Kuldeep shouted: "Paagal vaagal hai kya (Are you mad)?" as Pant ran towards him and calmed him saying: "Gussa nahi, gussa nahi (Don't get angry)." Bowling first, the DC bowlers utilised the conditions to full effect and managed to pick up four wickets within the powerplay phase. Ishant Sharma and Mukesh led the lines brilliantly while Khaleel Ahmed, Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel also chipped in with crucial wickets. As for GT, barring Rashid Khan's 24-ball 31-run innings, none of the other batters could get going and fell one after another. Chasing the modest target, DC made no fuss and knocked down the deficit in 9 overs with skipper Pant staying seeing the game through. "Lots of things to be pleased about. We talked about the champion thought process and our team showed today that we can play like that and really happy to see that. [on the bowling] Definitely one of the best, it's early on in the tournament, can't say much as we can improve individually," said Pant after the match. IPL 2024: VIDEO | DC's Rishabh Pant on fire with two stumpings in two balls vs GT

Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting thinks attacking batting is going to be the key to win the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season rather then defensive bowling. Ponting made the comments at the pre-match conference ahead of DC's game against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday (Apr 17). The IPL has already seen multiple high scores including the highest team total in the league history - two of them have been posted by SunRisers Hyderabad.

"Quite often, big tournaments like the IPL and the Big Bash (League, BBL) back in Australia have been won by the best defensive bowling teams. But the way this IPL is going - and [with] the different rules in the IPL - it looks like it will be won by the team that's most willing to take on the bowling, and try and post some really big scores. I think it's potentially more attacking batting that's going to win this IPL than defensive bowling," Ponting opined.

Ponting also said that impact player rule has benefited teams to a certain extent in posting high totals this season and said: "Sunrisers (Hyderabad, SRH) are obviously responsible for a couple of those [big scores]. KKR got 260-odd [272 for 7] against us. I think the impact player is having a big effect on the way teams are batting. You watched the way Travis [Head] batted last night. You can't bat that way unless you've got confidence in the players underneath you and you bat deep in your batting order as well."

The season has already seen SRH post league history's highest total twice - 277 against Mumbai Indians before improving it against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 15. On Tuesday (Apr 16), Rajasthan Royals also chased down the joint-highest total of IPL history - 224.

DC, however, have not been a great participant in the high-scoring spree as visible by their record of four losses and two wins after six games, only better than last-placed RCB.

For DC, spinner Kuldeep Yadav once again proved his worth as he returned with figures of 3/20 in his four overs. Apart from him, Khaleel Ahmed took 2/41 while Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar chipped with one each. This was Lucknow's second loss in five games as they currently sit on fourth place with six points from three wins.

IPL 2024: WATCH | DC's Jake Fraser-McGurk hits three back-to-back sixes in debut match vs LSG

Australians delivering on the big stage is something the cricketing world is familiar with. Youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk, debuting for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, left an impression on everyone in his first game with a match-winning fifty against Lucknow Super Giants. The right-handed batter smoked five sixes and two fours in his 35-ball 55-run stay at the crease, helping Delhi clinch a six-wicket win at the Ekana Stadium.

His inclusion in the XI came as a wonder call for the struggling side, as they looked composed yet hungry for the win during the run chase. Having been roped in by DC as someone who plays attacking cricket upfront, Jake had a night to remember as he made it to an elite list of Delhi players with the highest score&nbsp;on debut. Although he admitted being anxious ahead of his IPL debut, Jake said he had not seen anything like IPL before.

“I've spent the last five, six games on the, on the sidelines just watching it and itching to get out there. So, just to get out there and have my first game to be a win, I'm stoked.&nbsp;

“Trying not to swing too hard and losing the shape and just trying to find the middle of the bat, and just watching the ball and reacting to it. That's what I've been doing for the last twelve months and why change it?" Jake Fraser-McGurk said after DC chased down 168 against LSG.

His 77-run stand with DC Captain Rishabh Pant came in handy for the side as they remained ahead in the chase after losing openers inside the Powerplay.

Speaking on his knock and his favourite shot of the day, Jake said, “I loved that one over cover. I don't usually hit that many on the offside, so. I think it's something that I'll continue to learn to do—batting more out of the powerplay, focusing on my strike rate, and rotating the strike as well. I believe it's a skill that will come with experience, and playing more games will definitely aid in that."

Jake Fraser-McGurk cherishes DC debut, says ‘I am thrilled to be here, never seen anything like IPL before’

It was all chaos on Friday (April 12) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant stole the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Pant, who is playing his first season back in the IPL after a near-fatal car accident, was spotted taking an accidental DRS call and later arguing with the umpire. The incident left everyone surprised while opposition fans of Lucknow Super Giants in the stadium did not believe what transpired on the field.

<h2>Pant calls for DRS, then argues with umpire</h2>

On the fourth ball of the fourth over, Ishant Sharma’s delivery went past batter Devdutt Padikkal which was called wide by umpire Rohan Pandit. Immediately, Pant signaled for a DRS within the 15-second window which was spotted by the on-field umpire. Upon the signal, the umpire decided to call for DRS to check for wide ball. However, in an embarrassing moment, Pant would approach the umpire to withdraw the DRS call stating that the signal was for one of his fielders.

After a brief conversation and replays suggesting Pant had called for DRS, his argument with umpire Bapat did not stand. The ball was checked for wide after the DRS was upheld upon which it was confirmed that it was a wide ball. This resulted in DC losing a review while arguments between Pant and Bapat continued.

<h2>What happened in LSG’s innings?</h2>

Batting first, LSG made a decent start to their innings as skipper KL Rahul (39) and Quinton de Kock (19) got the home side going. However, it was after De Kock’s dismissal that things went horribly wrong for LSG as they were reduced to 94/7 with a quick fall of wickets. Marcus Stoinis (8), Devdutt Padikkal (3) and Nicholas Pooran (0) all disappointed with the bat leaving LSG in sixes and sevens.

Ayush Badoni (unbeaten 55) and Arshad Khan (20) would then lay the foundation for a comeback in the contest as LSG put 167/7 on the board in their 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for DC having ended with figures of 20/3 while Khaleel Ahmed ended with 41/2 in his four overs.

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant accidentally calls for DRS during LSG vs DC contest, argues with umpire later

Match 26 of the IPL 2024 edition will see the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) host the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the&nbsp;Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday (April 12). KL Rahul-led Lucknow will start as overwhelming favourites as they are ranked third as opposed to Delhi, who are struggling at the bottom.

Lucknow are coming into this game on the back of an impressive 33-run win against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at home. In fact, the LSG franchise is one of the five teams that are so far unbeaten at home in the ongoing edition. They are on a three-match winning streak, after a loss in their season-opener, and will be confident taking on Rishabh Pant &amp; Co.

Talking about the visiting side, Delhi have their task cut out. They are in the tenth spot, with one win from five encounters. There are problems aplenty for the DC camp as they have failed to adapt and have also been plagued by injury concerns. A lot has been said and written about their team selection and strategies. If they come up with better and smarter plans, they can cause an upset this evening.

Match preview and result prediction: The pitch on offer in Lucknow has assisted the bowlers, especially the pacers with the batters not getting a freeway to score at a brisk pace. This will also help the Delhi camp, given the kind of bowling attack they possess. It all depends on whether it's a black&nbsp;or red soil deck which will determine the nature of the pitch. However, one can expect&nbsp;another sporting surface with&nbsp;bowlers being in the game throughout.&nbsp;

Expect a moderate-scoring game, in the 160-170 range, with Lucknow likely to keep their winning streak going.
