Delhi Capitals have announced amajorchange to their team roster as they prepare for a crucial phase in the Indian Premier League (IPL)seasonwith Gulbadin Naibbeing ropedin place of Mitchell Marsh.Theannouncement made onThursday (April 25)eveningsaw the Afghanistan all-rounder sign for INR 5 million.He comes in as areplacement for Marshbeing anall-rounder with 65 T20 caps for the national side.

Marsh had got injured at the start of the month and was not available for the side ever sincewithShai Hope filing in his place. With DC in desperate need of reinforcements ahead of the final month of the IPL, it was essential for them to get the services of a like-to-like player. In Naib, they will have both batting and bowling options and will look to fill the void left by Marsh.

Currently,DC are sixth in the IPL 2024 standingshavingwon four matches in nine.They beat 2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday in a tightmatchby four runs. The win was essential to keep their playoff hopes alive for the season. Captain Rishabh Pant was seen in brilliant form for the side as he blasted 88 runs off 43 deliveries to help DC post 224 on the board.The chase was almost completed by GT before the home side held their nerves to register a close win.

As things stand, GT are two points off second place Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)whoare on 10 points but have played two matches less.

DC next take on Mumbai Indians on Saturday (April 27) at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadiumknowinga win will see them firmly in the race for the Playoffs. They will be targeting their first Playoff berth since2020when they reached thefinal of the tournament.
