IPL 2024: 'Don’t spread nonsense': Ambati Rayudu goes ballistic over fake attributed quotes on Ruturaj Gaikwad

Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has slammed media publications for attributing false remarks to him that went viral on social media. After Rayudu's former franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he was quoted to have criticised captain Rutuiraj Gaikwad for his poor field placements.

Rayudu, who retired from IPL last year, took to his social media handles and released a statement saying he was not even on commentary duties on the day of the match. Instead, he was 'picking mangoes' at his farm.

“I was not even commentating on the said day...I was at my farm picking mangoes... please be responsible when writing something...don’t spread nonsense," said Rayudu while reposting the contentious articles.

Comments taken out of context

Notably, it is not the first instance when Rayudu has been caught in a storm for his comments, or the lack thereof. After his statement about the difference in culture in the Chennai and Mumbai franchises went viral, Rayudu had to come out in a damage-control mode.

Rayudu said his comments were taken out of context and that he was only talking about how MI's process is differentand "there is positive pressure in which a player is forged".

"I have loved my 8 years at MI..am ever grateful... @mipaltan, please win some games fast," Rayudu said in a post on X, former Twitter.

Rayudu's response came after he said that the dressing room atmosphere at CSK was better than it was in MI.

"I feel CSK has a much better environment. MI mey jydada khelne se brain phat jayega (Your brain will explode if you play long for MI)," Rayudu said during a chat with ESPNCricinfo.

"When I used to play for MI, my game improved a lot. If you had not won the match, they do not see an excuse. At the end of the day, you have to perform. MI has an environment where you keep getting better and CSK has an environment where you will get better without any hassle," he claimed.

While CSK are currently fifth on the points table, MI find themselves in the eighth spot with only three wins inthe five matches played.
