KL Rahul is nearing full fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. Ahead of the Asia Cup squad announcement, the Indian team management is keenly awaiting the final fitness report of Rahul as well as Shreyas Iyer as their middle-order woes continue. While reports have been positive with regard to Rahul's fitness, it remains to be seen if he makes the squad for the upcoming continental tournament, starting on August 30.

While there is no doubt that India desperately need both Rahul and Iyer back in the squad, ex-Indian head coach Ravi Shastri doesn't want the former to speed up his return for the Asia Cup, to be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Shastri feels it might not be fair on Rahul to return in the multi-nation tournament and also don the gloves.

When a guy comes from an injury, the range of movement and things of that sort, so that's a no no."

Thus, Shastri feels India can opt for Ishan Kishan's services, an attacking left-hander who can play at the top or in the middle and keep wickets instead of rushing for Rahul's return. Should nearly-fit KL Rahul be a part of India's XI in Asia Cup 2023? Ravi Shastri shares his take

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, which will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The upcoming continental tournament kicks off on August 30 and arch-rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns on September 02 in Pallekele. The two sides are likely to meet in the Super Four round and can also lock horns in the summit clash, to be held in Colombo on September 17.

Ahead of the tournament, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria feels Babar Azam & Co. have the edge over Team India as the latter are unsettled at the moment.

'Pakistan have the edge, as India don't look settled at the moment'

Kaneria said during a live session on his official YouTube channel, "Pakistan have the edge, as India don't look settled at the moment. They don't know which fast bowlers are going to play. In their spin department, Yuzvendra Chahal has been inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja should be the three spinners, according to me. If they want a spinner on standby, Ravi Bishnoi should get the nod."

The former Pakistan spinner further added, "KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been practicing at the NCA and are mostly likely going to be included in India's squad for the upcoming major tournaments. However, you cannot bring someone into the team just on the basis of practice. They will have to play matches and should be added to the team only if they show good form there."

Team India recently ended their all-format tour of West Indies, on August 13, where they won the Test series 1-0 and the three ODIs 2-1 but lost the five T20Is 2-3. A second-stringed Indian team will now tour Ireland, for three T20Is, where Jasprit Bumrah marks his international return since September 2022. The national side will also hope for Iyer and Rahul's comeback ahead of the Asia Cup as their backups, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav, continue to remain inconsistent.

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan have the edge, India not settled at the moment, feels former spinner Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif feels Team India have not done well in recent ICC events due to 'internal issues'. It is to be noted that India have not won an ICC event since their historic triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Their last win in a multi-nation event came during the 2018 Asia Cup, in the UAE. At present, Rohit Sharma-led India are gearing up for the Asia Cup, in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which will be followed by the home ODI World Cup, in October-November.

Latif stated that Team India have faltered due to "internal issues", seemingly referring to former captain Virat Kohli's sacking, India's top-order crisis and the perennial No. 4 issue.

'India couldn't perform due to internal issues'

On his YouTube channel, the former Pakistan keeper-batter and captain pointed out, "Virat Kohli had a direction and he wanted to win, but he was sacked. The team couldn't perform due to internal issues. They couldn't perform in ICC tournaments because, maybe, the captain didn't get the desired players. Or maybe he got, but they weren't used. Now, there are two big events -- Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the World Cup at home. Their team is still pretty good, they will get a no.4."

Highlighting the Men in Blue's problems, Latif mentioned, "The problem begins when the top-3 gets dismissed quickly. If the top-3 play out the 25-30 overs, they will win easily. Their issue is the top-3 isn't performing how it used to. They could've brought back Shikhar Dhawan, you had made him captain less than a year ago during a tour. You had players, you threw them here and there.”

At present, Hardik Pandya-led India is involved in the five T20Is versus West Indies, with the series decider on Sunday (August 13) in Florida. Meanwhile, the national side is simultaneously focused on preparing for the Asia Cup 2023, starting on August 30, which is a dress rehearsal for the ODI World Cup at home.

India have reached four finals and as many semi-finals in all ICC events since 2013, when they last clinched a mega title. Thus, they will be hungry to end the year with a historic ODI WC triumph on home soil and silence all their critics.

The two-time continental champions will have a decent task in hand going into the Asia Cup as they build momentum for the ODI World Cup.
There are three notable inclusions of Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, and Saud Shakeel in the team for the Afghanistan series. The trio will hope to perform better and improve their chances to feature in the ODI World Cup squad, although that remains a hurdle too far at the moment.

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan announce 18-man squad led by Babar Azam; to kick off campaign against Nepal on Aug 30

India skipper Rohit Sharma has always been known for his wit during press conferences and while talking to reporters. Sharma's quick-wittedness was on display during a recent event in the USA when he was asked about the best Pakistan bowler in the current team

"All the pacers in Pakistan team are equally good. I will not name any particular individual. It creates big controversy (not verbatim),” says Rohit in a video shared on Instagram when asked about who's the best Pakistan bowler.

"If I pick one and name any one player, the second will feel bad. If I will take another player’s name, then the third might feel bad. I think all of them are good,” he added. Have a look at the video here:

"If I pick one and name any one player, the second will feel bad. If I will take another player’s name, then the third might feel bad. I think all of them are good,” he added. India skipper Rohit Sharma's CHEEKY response on who's best Pakistan bowler - WATCH

Team India is now gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While the Hardik Pandya-led India is involved in the five T20Is versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island, the ODI regulars are now focused on the continental showpiece event as it will be an ideal dress rehearsal before the home ODI World Cup, in October-November. Before the Asia Cup, Jasprit Bumrah was announced fit and has been named the captain for the three T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, to be held later this month. Now, as per a report in the Times of India, another batter is fit.

KL Rahul, star keeper-batter, is now fit and ready for Asia Cup duties. The stylish batter has been out of cricketing action since his injury in the latter half of IPL 2023. Since then, he missed India's WTC final -- versus Australia -- and the ongoing West Indies tour. With him being India's No. 5 and a reliable keeper, his return will be a massive boost for the Men in Blue.

Rahul has been sharing his fitness updates on social media platforms in the last few days, where he can be seen batting and keeping wickets at the nets. "The coaches and medical experts at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore are satisfied with Rahul's progress/recovery. He will be available for selection for the Asia Cup," a reliable source said.

Apart from Rahul, Shreyas Iyer is also fighting hard to regain full fitness, however, he is still away from being in contention for the Asia Cup. As per the same report in the TOI, Iyer is likely to be unavailable and can be out of the continental tournament with a back problem that persists despite surgery.

While Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna, are set to make a comeback in the Ireland T20Is and there are strong reports of Rahul also recovering soon. Thus, Indian fans will hope for the trio to get some game time under their belt before the ODI World Cup and also wish for Iyer's speedy return.

Team India star batter-keeper KL Rahul 'fit' for Asia Cup: Report

The Indian pair of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are likely to miss the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka as the tournament comes too early for them. According to reports surfacing on Thursday, August 3, the duo is unlikely to be fully fit for the continental showpiece and won’t be considered as the deadline to announce the squad nears. However, both Rahul and Shreyas will look to make the ODI World Cup squad as the deadline to announce the squad for that event nears.

Rahul, Shreyas to miss Asia Cup

The Asia Cup 2023 will come too early for both batters, as per a report by Cricbuzz. They have been struggling with injury for a long time and recently posted rehabilitation videos on social media. Iyer missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) while Rahul missed the last leg of the premier competition. Iyer was set to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL but injury ruled him out. Nitish Rana would then lead the KKR side in Shreyas’ absence from the squad. Iyer last played for India in the Test series against Australia in March at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rahul was supposed to be in contention as well for the Asia Cup, but according to the latest National Cricket Academy (NCA) report, the continental showpiece comes early for him. Rahul’s absence will be a major blow for Team India. Although he has not been ruled out of the World Cup yet, his missing the Asia Cup could have big consequences on India’s batting line-up for the World Cup. He last played for India in March during the ODI series against Australia.

Consequence during the World Cup

If Rahul is ruled out of the World Cup, India will be left with no option but to field Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI. Currently, Rishabh Pant is not in contention for a return to the national side, while KS Bharat, the only other wicketkeeper option, is not being favoured for the ODI side. Rahul, who is India’s wicket-keeping option for World Cup, will need a timely recovery.

In the case of Rahul’s absence, Ishan remains the only viable option to feature with the gloves and has been a constant feature in the team.

Asia Cup 2023: KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer unlikely to be available due to fitness issues; eye ODI World Cup return

India lost the second and penultimate ODI to West Indies by six wickets as the visitors continued to experiment with their team combination in the three-match series. In the series opener, India banked on their middle and lower order, with regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being demoted in the batting line-up, to chase down a paltry 115. In the second ODI, India went without Rohit and Kohli as a second-string Indian team, under Hardik Pandya, managed only 181 to lose by six wickets.

After the defeat, many slammed the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian think tank for their constant experiments with the home ODI World Cup only a few months away. Many former cricketers and experts believe India is tinkering too much with their line-up and remain confused with their team combination ahead of two marquee events, such as the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI WC. Prior to the third ODI's commencement, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja addressed the media and claimed that there is no confusion as Rohit-Dravid and the team management are sure about their team combination going ahead, especially for the Asia Cup.

"This is the series before the Asia Cup and World Cup, where we can experiment, we can try out new combinations. It will give us an idea about the team's balance, strengths and weaknesses," Jadeja told reporters on the eve of the series decider in Trinidad.

India vs Pakistan Tickets Online: How to book tickets for the most-awaited match of Asia Cup 2023

On Wednesday (July 19), the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the final schedule of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition. The forthcoming tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the Island nation hosting a majority of games (nine out of 13). After the official announcement, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt opened up on the schedule and expressed his displeasure due to the lack of rest for Babar Azam-led Men in Green.

Talking about Pakistan, they will play the tournament opener versus Nepal on August 30 in Multan. They will then travel to Sri Lanka to face arch-rivals India, in Kandy, on September 02 before returning home to play their first game in Super Four -- if they qualify -- before going back to the Island nation. Thus, Butt has slammed the schedule for Team Pakistan and stated, 'We never cared about our players'.

“It's a very strange schedule. Pakistan are playing their first match in Pakistan, then they will travel to Sri Lanka for the second match. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will play their first match in their home, and when they have to travel to Pakistan for the second game, they have a 4-5 days gap," Butt was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

He further added, "Pakistan, who are originally the host nation, have only got two days gap. We never cared about our players."

Pakistan were initially set to host the whole tournament but when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear that they won't sent Team India to their neighbouring country -- citing security concerns -- the hybrid model came into existence. Thus, Sri Lanka -- who are the defending champions -- are hosting nine games whereas the Men in Green will only play host to four encounters.

At present, Babar & Co. are involved in a two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka in the latter's backyard. On Thursday (July 20), Pakistan beat the Lankans by four wickets in the two-match Test series opener, in Galle, in pursuit of 131. The second and final Test kicks off on July 24 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

'We've only...': Ex-Pakistan skipper fumes at Asia Cup 2023 schedule with lack of rest for Men in Green

After a lengthy delay, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced the final schedule of the Asia Cup 2023 on Wednesday (July 19). The forthcoming edition will be held in a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four games, and Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka to be venues for nine matches, as the continental tournament will kick off on August 30 with the final scheduled to be played on September 17.

India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group A whereas Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in Group B. The top two teams from both groups will proceed to the Super Four. The top two from the Super Four will then lock horns in the summit clash in mid-September. This time around, the tournament will be held in the ODI format -- mainly to serve as a dress rehearsal for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India in October-November. Ever since the fixtures were out, there is a lot of excitement among fans as many expect arch-rivals India and Pakistan to meet thrice in the upcoming edition.

Both sides will meet on September 02 and can possibly meet after eight days, on September 10, and also in the final. Ahead of his side's face-off versus India, Pakistan great Waqar Younis backed Babar Azam & Co. to beat Rohit Sharma-led Team India.

"Play well as simple as that," advised Waqar -- while speaking at the Asia Cup trophy unveiling programme in Lahore on Wednesday -- Team Pakistan when asked about what should be their strategy for big games.

'I don't see any reason why they can't beat India'

On Pakistan's chances versus the Men in Blue, Waqar said, "In our time, we did not win many major tournaments against India. But the good thing is that these boys have started winning against India in big matches recently. That's a good sign. The monkey is off the back now. So, given the talent we have in our team, if we play to our potential, I don't see any reason why they can't beat India. It doesn't matter where they play. If we can beat them at The Oval (talking about the 2017 Champions Trophy where Pakistan thrashed India by 180 runs in the final), we can beat them anywhere. Talent is there, just go out there and play like we are tigers. Let's put it that way."

In Asia Cup 2022, played in the T20I format, India and Pakistan met twice with both teams winning a game each. Even during the last edition, many expected both sides to meet thrice but India bowed out in the Super Four whereas Sri Lanka beat Men in Green in the final by 23 runs.

'One step at a time': Rahul Dravid's mantra ahead of India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash

Ehsaan Mazari, minister in charge of sports in Pakistan, has said that the country's cricket team won't be travelling to India for the upcoming ICC World Cup if India doesn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Mazari said this in a conversation with news outlet The Indian Express. The statement by Mazari comes a day after Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a high-profile committee to decide on the issue of Pak travelling to India for the World Cup.

“My personal opinion, since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comes under my ministry, is that if India demands to play their Asia Cup games at a neutral venue, we would also demand the same for our World Cup games in India,” said Mazari.

The World Cup is scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. Pakistan and India, however, are at loggerheads ever since India denied travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup. Mazari, in his conversation, also spoke about the mandate of the committee formed by the Pak PM and said that PM Sharif will take the final decision.

“The committee will be headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and I am among the 11 ministers who are part of it. We will discuss the issue and give our recommendations to the PM, who is also the patron-in-chief of PCB. The PM will take the final decision,” said Mazari.

India, notably, has said it won't be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and since then, many developments have taken place. The latest is Pakistan reportedly agreeing to share the hosting with Sri Lanka in a hybrid model. After the first four games of the Asia Cup, the rest are expected to be played in Sri Lanka, which includes all the games of the Indian side and the final as well. India has cited security concerns to not travel to Pakistan and Mazari wasn't particularly pleased with it.

“India brings sports into politics. I don’t understand why the Indian government doesn’t want to send their cricket team here. Some time back a huge baseball contingent from India was in Islamabad to play. There was also the bridge team that had travelled to Pakistan. There were around 60-plus people, I was the chief guest of the event. They won here and left. Pakistan’s football, hockey and chess teams also travel to India,” he said.

'Pak won't travel...:' Pakistan minister puts Men In Green's participation in ODI WC under cloud of doubt

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are involved in a big tussle in recent times over the implementation of the Hybrid Model for the Asia Cup and the World Cup. While the model will be in use for the Asia Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI have opposed the idea in the World Cup. With present and future tournaments in Pakistan facing an uncertain threshold, the two boards are likely to continue their battle for staging big tournaments.

BCCI vs PCB: Battle over Hybrid Model of Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 with the hybrid model in place for the tournament. As things stand after the official confirmation, Pakistan despite being the host, will host only four matches, while Sri Lanka will host nine matches including the final if India qualify. The Asia Cup will start on August 31, with the final taking place on September 17 and will be played in the ODI format before the World Cup in India.

India vs Pakistan to take place in Sri Lanka

While the detailed schedule of the Asia Cup is yet to be finalised including the venues and key dates for the key fixtures, the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place in Sri Lanka. The two teams will meet in the group stage where Nepal will be the other team. The two teams are again likely to meet in the Super Four stage if they secure qualification for the next round. That fixture too will be played in Sri Lanka as India have confirmed they won’t be travelling to Pakistan due to the poor diplomatic relations between the nations.

If the two teams, India and Pakistan, make it to the final of the Asia Cup then the final will also take place in Sri Lanka.

On the flip side, Pakistan will play all its matches on their home turf except the India clash that will take place in Sri Lanka. Babar Azam’s side will also play their Super Four matches except the India one in Pakistan.

What is the format for Asia Cup?

The entire tournament will be played in the ODI format rather than the T20I format which was in use for the Asia Cup 2022 to help the teams prepare for the ODI World Cup in India. As things stand, the 2022 format will be in use where six teams have been divided into two groups and will play round-robin clashes.

The group winners and runners-up will play in the Super Four stage where the teams will again meet in the round-robin format. Two teams topping the group after the Super Four stage will play in the final on September 17.

As things stand, the 2022 format will be in use where six teams have been divided into two groups and will play round-robin clashes. The group winners and runners-up will play in the Super Four stage where the teams will again meet in the round-robin format. Asia Cup 2023: ACC confirms hybrid model for continental showpiece, Pakistan to host four matches

Asia Cup 2023: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) recently announced the dates for Asia Cup 2023. The organisation further announced the hybrid model for the cricket tournament. This means that the continental championship will be held in two countries - Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup 2023 will begin on August 31 and will have its final on September 17. Six countries will be participating in the tournament including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal, Jagran reported.

The press release by ACC stated, "We are delighted to announce that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held from August 31 to September 17, and will see the elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, compete in a total of 13 exciting ODI matches. The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka."

India has accepted playing the game in a hybrid model. The news was shared in a tweet. It read, "ACC President Jay Shah accepted the Hybrid Model proposed by PCB for the Asia Cup 2023. Matches of India and Super Fours are likely to be played in Sri Lanka & the rest of the group stage matches including 'Nepal vs Pakistan' will be played in Pakistan."

There will be 13 ODI matches, Pakistan will host four games and Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine.

What is Hybrid Model in Cricket?

This is a relatively new rule set in cricket and has been discussed in the past year due to the Asia Cup 2023 controversy between India and Pakistan. The controversy was that India refused to travel to Pakistan, which will be hosting the Asia Cup over diplomatic and security issues.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed this hybrid model in which the games involving India will be played outside Pakistan.

Both countries refused the hybrid model initially but after consideration, Sri Lanka agreed to host India's Asia Cup games. The UAE was also spotted as a possible venue for India's matches, but India wasn't too keen on it.

Now Pakistan retains the hosting rights for Asia Cup, while India will be playing games in Sri Lanka, a neutral venue for both countries. The final will also be played in Sri Lanka. Lahore has been chosen as the venue for the Pakistan leg of the championship.

After long rounds of discussion, the impasse over hosting the Asia Cup 2023 seems to getting over with Pakistan and Sri Lanka looking set to host the Asia Cup in September later this year.

As per the development reported by ESPNCricinfo, the Asian Cricket Council is ready to approve the hybrid model suggested by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi. As per the model, all India games will be played in Sri Lanka including against Pakistan.

The tournament, to be played in 50-over format as a lead up to ICC ODI World Cup, will have 13 matches including the final, which will also be played in Sri Lanka, shall India make it to the last match.

India-Pakistan at an impasse

The tournament hit the impasse after India decided not to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons and demanded that the tournament be shifted to a neutral venue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also had the support of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket board as well.

Pakistan react to India deciding not to travel

The PCB was miffed by India's stance and threatened to boycott from the ICC ODI WC scheduled to be held in India later this year. Asia Cup 2023 set to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka - Report

The ongoing tussle between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and other Asian countries over the hosting of the Asia Cup may end with Pakistan withdrawing from the tournament altogether. This comes as other countries, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan backed India in rejecting the hybrid model put forth by PCB chief Najam Sethi to host the tournament.

As per the hybrid model, Sethi wanted three to four games to happen in Pakistan before playing the rest of the games at some neutral venue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who had decided not to travel to Pakistan on security grounds, rejected the model, a suit which was followed by other Asian participants as well.

Pakistan, as reported by the news agency PTI, has decided to withdraw from the tournament if the hybrid model is rejected - which seems all but a formality now.

"It is just a formality now that the Asian Cricket Council executive board members meet virtually or a proper meeting is called later this month. But the PCB is now aware that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are not backing their hybrid model proposal for the Asia Cup," a source privy to the development was quoted in PTI's report.

The PCB, miffed with the stance of boards, especially SLC, has pulled out of an ODI series for which they had to travel to Sri Lanka after the Island nation projected itself as the potential host for the tournament. The SLC did so after India's repeated stance of shifting the Asia Cup entirely out of Pakistan after rejecting the hybrid model.

"Pakistan only has two options. Play the tourney at a neutral venue or withdraw," also said an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) source said.

"In case Pakistan doesn't play, it will still be called Asia Cup but the broadcaster will renegotiate the deal in the absence of Pakistan.

"There is every possibility the Asia Cup might not be held this year because without Pakistan and India matches the broadcasters are not likely to offer the same amount they were offering to the ACC with Pakistan included," the ACC source said.

Notably, Pakistan has also threatened to pull out of the ICC ODI WC to be held later this year in India. The ICC official, reportedly travelled to Pakistan to seek a guarantee for their participation in the quadrennial tournament, PTI had reported.

PCB prepares action plan of Asia Cup hybrid model as demanded by BCCI - Sources

With so much chaos regarding this year's Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi stunned one and all with his recent suggestion of taking the continental tournament out of the Asian shores and hosting it in the United Kingdom, with the iconic Lord's stadium to host the India-Pakistan clash.

Asia Cup 2023 edition remains under dark clouds as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have made it clear that they won't send Team India to Pakistan, where the tournament was scheduled to take place. Since then, a hybrid model was suggested by PCB chief where India can play their games outside Pakistan. However, he came up with the suggestion to take the tournament to be UK, drawing criticism from his predecessor Ramiz Raja.

"I was shocked to hear the Chairman PCB saying it would be great to see the Asia Cup being played at Lord’s. Is he mentally stable or not?," said Raja on his Youtube channel. The former PCB chairman said,"The whole point of Asia Cup before the World Cup was that the teams get familiar with the conditions of the sub-continent."

'Is he mentally stable?': Ramiz Raja lashes out at PCB chief's proposal to host Asia Cup 2023 in England

The fate of the Asia cup still uncertain, host Pakistan have threatened to boycott a test Series in Sri Lanka after reports emerged off the Sri Lankan cricket board's reluctance to commit to the hybrid model proposed by the PCB. The PCB proposed the hybrid model to ensure the participation of India. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2012 and all subsequent encounters have taken place on neutral ground and in multilateral events like the world cup or the Asia cup India have refused to travel to Pakistan citing security concerns and the PCB has offered to host all matches involving India in either the UAE or even in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has shown his disappointment over the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) model of revenue distribution. Sethi has demanded an explanation from the ICC's finance and commercial affairs committee, headed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah on how the model will work out. The proposed model will work from 2024 to 2027 where the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will earn a whopping 38.5 percent while Pakistan will get 5.75 percent of the bulk revenue.

"We are insisting that the ICC should tell us how these figures were arrived at," PCB chairman Najam Sethi told Reuters.

"We are not happy with the situation as it stands. Come June, when the board is expected to approve the financial model unless these details are provided to us, we are not going to approve it."

The proposed model will come into effect in 2024 if approved in the June meeting of the board of ICC. It is thought that Pakistan won’t cast its vote in the meeting if there is no clarity on the revenue-sharing model. India is set to be benefited the most from the model while Pakistan is one of the lowest earners on the list.

The 12 full members of the ICC would collectively get 88.81%, while the rest would be distributed among its 96 associate members, Reuters reported.

England and Australia would pocket 6.89% and 6.25% respectively with the media rights playing a big role in determining the percent share.

Asia Cup 2023: Nepal secure historic first-ever qualification, join India and Pakistan in Group A

The Asia Cup 2023 edition is only months away but the mystery surrounding the host for the continental tournament continues. Pakistan have been named as the host for the tournament but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear, last year, that the Indian team won't travel to their neighbouring Asian country due to the strained political relations between both nations.

Since then, a lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023 edition. Pakistan cricket board (PCB) responded by saying that it won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, to take place soon after the Asia Cup. Later on, it was revealed that the PCB offered a hybrid model where India will play their games at another venue while Pakistan will host the remaining games.

But this could also cost Pakistan the hosting rights. As per Cricket Pakistan, Pakistan will lose the hosting rights even if a hybrid model comes into place. Thus, the PCB is prepared to see the cancellation of this year's event. The report in cricketpakistan.com has further revealed that Team India might play a five-nation tournament in the vacant window following Asia Cup's cancellation.

Coming to Pakistan's threat to boycott this year's ODI WC, it is highly unlikely that they won't participate. The Men in Green travelled to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. They, however, might play their games in one or two venues only.

India to feature in five-nation tournament with Asia Cup 2023 unlikely before ODI World Cup: Report

Pakistan Cricket Board’s interim chairman Najam Sethi could opt for a ‘hybrid model’ for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 while also narrating that the same should be implemented for the ODI World Cup. Sethi, who is handed an extension to his interim tenure earlier, suggested that they could allow India to play at a neutral venue in the Asia Cup while the same should be implemented for the ODI World Cup later in the year.

"We have been advised to play the Asia Cup at a neutral venue and also go to India for the World Cup,” Sethi said while not hinting at where the proposal came from.

"We feel this hybrid experiment can also be applied when it is time for the World Cup," Sethi said.

"Our stance is that everything should be on a reciprocal basis. In the old times, yes, there were security issues in Pakistan. But now there are no issues, so what is India's excuse for not playing in Pakistan?"

India has strongly hinted that they will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup later in the year and have asked for a neutral venue to stage their matches. The diplomatic relations between the nations have been in hot water in recent years, with India’s last visit to Pakistan coming in June 2008 in the Asia Cup.

Sethi, whose tenure was set to expire as the interim boss on Saturday, will be given an extension of two to four weeks. While could succeed as the new permanent head, he still feels India could come to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

"But I can say right now that the public mood is: we are not needy and we can stand on our own feet financially and we want to play cricket with India honourably. We are also negotiating with the ACC."

The Asia Cup 2023 will get underway in Pakistan in September with six teams participating in the continental event. While the format will remain the same for groups, the fixtures will be played in 50 overs. Both India and Pakistan will be grouped together and could meet three times while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and one team will be identified after the qualifiers, which are currently underway in Nepal.

Asia Cup 2023: Najam Sethi hints at 'hybrid model' for IND-PAK venue issue, suggests THIS solution

Former Pakistan Captain Javed Miandad was asked to comment on India's refusal to tour Pakistan over security concerns. His remarks have triggered a controversy. Molly Gambhir tells you more.

Gravitas: Javed Miandad's bizarre take on India's Asia Cup snub

A lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023. While Pakistan are the originals host for the showpiece event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced last year that Team India won't travel to their neighbouring country (due to both nations' strained political relation). Since then, a lot of speculations have been raised with regard to where the continental tournament will be held, which is set to take place in September ahead of this year's ODI World Cup in India.

Firstly, it was said that the tournament will move to UAE with Pakistan to remain as the hosts. Last year, Sri Lanka remained the host but the competition was held in the UAE. However, multiple reports suggested that a hybrid model will be followed for Asia Cup, with India to play their encounters elsewhere. Now, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has shared his firm stance on Asia Cup hosting rights.

"We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play," he said as quoted by India Today.

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi said.

It will be interesting to see where the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup gets held as the tournament is just a few months away from commencement.

'Pakistan will not accept any...': PCB chief Najam Sethi's FIRM STANCE on Asia Cup 2023 hosting rights

The dark cloud on India’s potential venues in the Asia Cup 2023 can finally be lifted as the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has proposed to allocate India to a neutral venue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Pakistan Board (PCB) are said to be moving swiftly towards brokering a resolution that could have both teams playing their tournament matches against each other outside Pakistan.

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in September and will see both India and Pakistan grouped together. The two arch-rivals are set to meet at least once while there could be potential two more meetings between the sides, including the final. India who last visited the terror-affected nation in 2008 are determined not to visit Pakistan despite them being the host.

Neutral venue on agenda

While India won’t be visiting Pakistan, they are likely to play their matches at a neutral venue including the headline clash against the hosts. The proposed neutral venues include Oman, UAE and Sri Lanka. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, England could also serve as an alternative if both BCCI and PCB agree to take the Asia Cup outside Asia.

The Asia Cup 2023 will be played in a 50-over format with the tournament lasting for 13 days. India and Pakistan are grouped together while defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are paired in the other group.

Committee to decide Asia Cup schedule

As it stands, a small working group has been formed with the brief of creating a schedule and travel plan agreeable to all participating countries as well as the broadcaster before a final call is taken. The weather is likely to play a key role in determining the second venue outside of Pakistan, though there will be keenness among the Asian venues to host high-profile India-Pakistan games.

The Asia Cup has recently developed a tradition to get hosted in a neutral venue with UAE being the likely option. Last year Sri Lanka were unable to host the Asia Cup due to political and financial crisis while India also had to relinquish hosting the tournament in 2018 with the political tension between them and Pakistan. This year could be no different as India try to conquer the continental crown while a bigger prize in the form of the ODI World Cup also awaits in October.

Asia Cup 2023: Premier tournament to stay in Pakistan, but India likely to play at THIS neutral venue

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2013. Ever since the political relations between both countries hit an all-time low, the two heavyweights only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. The Asia Cup 2023 edition is just six months away but there is no host for the continental event ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the forthcoming edition. Since then, it is understood that the tournament will once again be held at a neutral venue. However, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has lashed out at BCCI's stance.

'Why is India worried about security?'

In a press conference, Najam Sethi said, "I have kept my options open because when all teams are coming to Pakistan and have no issues with security. Then why is India worried about security? In the same way, we can also have security concerns over sending our team to India for the World Cup and I will be bringing this to the table at the coming meetings."

"Obviously we don’t support this stance (by India) because we want to hold the Asia Cup and remember it is not just about the Asia Cup and World Cup it is also about the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan."

"I had sought advice from the government and the situation is that we have to go by what our patron-in-chief tells us to do. If he says go and play in World Cup even if India doesn’t come for Asia Cup, what can we do? If he says don’t go it is a similar situation for us," Sethi further added.

Currently, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition is being held in Pakistan. The tournament faced a big hurdle following the Karachi terror attack but has continued uninterrupted.

The last time Pakistan travelled to India for a bilateral series was in 2013 whereas their last visit overall was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, India have not visited their Asian neighbours since 2008. It remains to be seen who will host the Asia Cup as India remain adamant about not travelling to Pakistan.
