Although Akram admitted that The Shaheens would enter the final as the favourites to outperform the Sri Lankans and lay claim to the title of Asia Cup champions, he admitted that it may not be as easy as one would like it to be.

While in conversation with BBN Sports, Akram asserted that although Sri Lanka will enter the match as the underdogs, the Men in Green will have to be wary as they seem to be in red-hot form.

"The bowling was decent though. Hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes. But still, I think, Pakistan are the favourite in the finals. But the exciting and young Sri Lanka team cannot be taken easy,” said Akram.

He subsequently singled out Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam, admitting that he had spent enough time training after a less than impressive outing in the Asia Cup to learn from his mistakes and put in a better performance in the final.

“Babar is one of the best players in the world and needs just one good innings. He struggled a bit because he might be worried about the lack of runs.

Pakistan legend Javed Miandad has lashed out at Afghanistan for their 'bad behaviour' against Pakistani players during the clash between the two sides in the Asia Cup 2022 earlier this week. Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by 1 wicket in a thrilling contest to secure a spot in the final of the tournament.

There was drama on the field during Pakistan's run chase in the game as the players from both sides were involved in some heated moments. It all started in the 19th over of Pakistan's innings when Afghanistan's Fareed Ahmad dismissed Asif Ali on 16.

Fareed celebrated wildly after Ali's dismissal prompting the Pakistan batter to walk up to him and exchange a few words with him. Asif then raised his bat threatening to hit the Afghanistan pacer before hitting him with his elbow. Asif was criticised by many on social media for his reaction but several former Pakistan players have been blaming Afghanistan for provoking Asif.

Miandad is the latest former Pakistan cricketer to join the bandwagon and has slammed Afghanistan players for their behaviour.

"Pakistan played well but I’m disappointed with the team (Afghanistan) they defeated. Just because their behaviour is so bad nowadays. We brought them into the picture, they used to practice in Pakistan. And now, just see their language. How older are they? They haven’t played that much cricket, have they lost their minds?" Miandad said while speaking to 'Events & Happenings Sports'.

"Pakistan have been playing the game for 20 years now. They came here and learned the game. I’m the witness because I coached them. But I was baffled to see how they behaved as if they were superstars. Your cricket is nothing. Learn how to play the game. There are numerous aspects of cricket. If you are sincere, humble and give respect (to each other), your game will get better," he added.

It was a must-win clash for Afghanistan and they produced a brilliant fight against Pakistan before going down. Afghanistan almost had the game in their bag at one stage during Pakistan's run chase when the Men in Green were reduced to 118/9 on the penultimate delivery of the 19th over.

With 11 runs to get off the last over, many backed Afghanistan to defend it and win the game. However, Pakistan's no.10 Naseem Shah slammed back-to-back sixes to play a match-winning cameo for his team and wrap up the run-chase comfortably with four balls to spare.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan locked horns with each other in the last match of the Super Fours. Their most recent clash served to be a teaser for the finals of the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup.

The Sri Lankans found it relatively easy to overcome the challenge presented by The Shaheens as they were presented with a chase of 122. With Pathum Nissanka at the helm of their batting effort against Pakistan, the Dasun Shanaka-led outfit stormed to a comfortable five-wicket win.

Nissanka led Sri Lanka's batting charge right from the get-go. He stood firm in the face of Pakistan's bowlers through to the end even though a number of his fellow batsmen were sent back to the stands.

His unbeaten knock of 55 did wonders for Sri Lanka's charge against Pakistan, setting the tone for their next and final clash of the tournament. Building on his exhilarating performance, Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 24 runs and Dasun Shanaka put 21 on the board to help see their team through.

In addition to their batting, Sri Lanka's efforts from the opposite end of the pitch were nothing less than impressive. They put on an absolute masterclass as far as bowling was concerned, cruising past the Pakistani batting lineup to send them packing at 121.

Maheesh Theekshana and Pramod Madushan walked away from the pitch with two Pakistani scalps each under their belts. However, it was Wanindu Hasaranga who shone the brightest with the ball, racking up a whopping three wickets.

Sri Lanka were clearly the better team out on the pitch of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will enter their upcoming clash against Pakistan with the Asia Cup title hanging in the balance with the momentum of this victory to bolster their performance. Whether The Shaheens will be able to step up and face the challenge head on is something that remains to be seen.

Asia Cup 2022: Pathum Nissanka leads Sri Lanka's impressive chase beating Pakistan by five wickets

Sri Lanka took on Pakistan in what can only be described as a prequel to the penultimate match of the Asia Cup after which, one side will be crowned champions of the prestigious tournament.

Although the first innings of the final match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup featured some exhilarating performances from the Sri Lankan bowling order, it is perhaps the incident involving Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman that overshadowed everything else.

While facing Pramod Madushan in the sixth over, the No. 3 batsman for the Men in Green found himself in a unique predicament. In the final delivery of the over, the ball clipped the inside edge of Zaman's bat before proceeding to roll back to the stumps, making impact.

However, to everyone's surprise, including Zaman, he managed to escape getting bowled from the delivery as the impact was not strong enough to knock the bails off the wicket, offering the 32-year-old a new lease on life on the pitch.

Virat Kohli ended his international drought on Thursday (September 8) as India faced Afghanistan in their last Super Four clash before bowing out of the Asia Cup 2022 edition. Bing asked to bat first, a Rohit Sharma-less Indian team rode on Kohli's 122 not out (off 61 balls), who opened the innings with stand-in captain KL Rahul, to post a mammoth 212-3.

In reply, Afghanistan fell like nine pins in the run-chase by being restricted to 111/8 in 20 overs to lose by a whopping 101-run margin. Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned with 5 for 4 in his full quota of overs to stand tall but the Player-of-the-Match Kohli generated maximum eyeballs. Kohli's innings was laced with 12 fours and 6 sixes and his return to form is a huge blessing for Rohit & Co. heading into the 2022 T20 World Cup, from October-November in Australia. The 33-year-old Kohli's hundred is a huge sigh of relief for many Indian cricket fans, worldwide, who have been eagerly waiting for King Kohli to move past his ordinary run of form.

As soon as Kohli smacked an impressive pull over the fence to reach triple figures, the crowd -- at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai -- were sent into a frenzy. An elderly fan's unmissable reaction, present in the stands, went viral in no time as Kohli raised his bat and acknowledged the crowd after reaching his 71st international ton. Here's the video of the elderly fan bowing down to the Indian star batter:

It was just about enjoying the game, understanding the game and what God blessed you with. Today was the build-up of the last few games, I batted out of my skin to be honest and I surprised myself. What surprised me was my 60s became failures; quite shocking for me, batting pretty well and contributing but doesn't seem to be enough. I can't really pinpoint anything to anyone as I said God has blessed me with good things in the past and that's why I am in this position where these things can be spoken about."

In addition to this, one demerit point each has been added to the disciplinary records of the players, both of whom did not have any previous offence in a 24-month period. The incident occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan`s innings, when Fareed came up and made inappropriate physical contact with Asif after dismissing him and the batter reacted with an aggressive gesture of the bat. On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Jayaraman Madangopal, third umpire Gazi Sohel and fourth umpire Raveendra Wimalasari levelled the charges. India ended their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a big win over Afghanistan on Thursday evening (September 8). The biggest takeaway from India's consolation win was Virat Kohli's much-awaited 71st international century as the former skipper slammed a mouth-watering 61-ball 122 not out, laced with 12 fours and 6 sixes at a whopping strike-rate of 200.

Kohli hadn't scored a century across formats since late 2019. Since then, he contributed with a lot of crucial knocks but failed to get to the triple-figure mark. Against Afghanistan, India's star batter Virat went all-out, after settling in, as he opened the innings with stand-in captain KL Rahul in Rohit Sharma's absence. With his ton, the whole of India breathed a sigh of relief despite the national side's forgettable Asia Cup campaign. Rohit & Co. will now hope for Kohli to continue in a similar stead and go bonkers in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, from October-November in Australia.

After mauling Afghanistan, Indian captain Rohit and Virat got together for a special interaction, on BCCI tv, where Hitman told his predecessor that his 'form is very critical to Team India'.

When Rohit asked about his brilliant ton, Kohli said, "I did not expect this. Even you mentioned after the match that nobody would have expected me to score a century, especially in this format. I am pleasantly surprised and I am grateful and honoured right now." Later in the chat, Rohit told, "Your form is very critical to our team. We all understand that. And also, you being around certain guys, does help a lot as well."

'Your form is very critical' - Rohit Sharma tells Virat Kohli as duo interact post latter's 71st int'l ton

The No. 1 ranked Indian team entered the Asia Cup 2022 edition -- being played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup -- as favourites and were expected to win the trophy for the third time in a row. Despite topping their group, India lost their opening two games in the Super Four round and bowed out of the multi-nation tournament with Pakistan-Sri Lanka making it to the final.

Thrashing Afghanistan by 101 runs on Thursday evening (September 8), India settled for the penultimate spot in the Super Four by signing off from the tournament with a total of three wins and two defeats (versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively). Losing to arch-rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the last over, India have been slammed left, right and centre with many taking a dig at their preparations for the upcoming ICC event. Nonetheless, head coach Rahul Dravid came in India's defence and has reckoned that 'losing a couple of games doesn't make them a terrible team.'

"Irrespective of whether we would have won those games, you got to keep things in perspective. In T20s, the margins are so small. It's not that because we won that tight game against Pakistan, everything becomes perfect. We lost a couple of games, which had gone down on a wicket that wasn't easy to defend," Dravid said in an interview on Star Sports.

We haven't been perfect. Just because we lost a couple of games, it doesn't mean we are a terrible team. We have been playing good cricket over the past 8-9 months."

"A couple of injuries and illnesses means your balance the team goes whack. In tournaments such as these, the margins become very small. The whole point is not to overreact, we can tend to go to extremes at some time. The kind of environment we want to create is very balanced," the former Indian captain-turned-coach added.

India will now shift their focus to their twin T20I series, at home, versus Australia and South Africa, respectively. After that, the Rohit-led side will head to Australia in a bid to win their second T20 WC trophy.

Nonetheless, head coach Rahul Dravid came in India's defence and has reckoned that 'losing a couple of games doesn't make them a terrible team.' "Irrespective of whether we would have won those games, you got to keep things in perspective. In T20s, the margins are so small. It's not that because we won that tight game against Pakistan, everything becomes perfect. We lost a couple of games, which had gone down on a wicket that wasn't easy to defend," Dravid said in an interview on Star Sports. Pakistan met Afghanistan in their Super Four clash at the Asia Cup 2022 edition, on Wednesday (September 7), at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. A win for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green would've secured them a spot in the tournament final, with Sri Lanka. On the other hand, a victory for Mohammad Nabi-led Afghan line-up would've kept the tournament alive, with India also breathing for another day.

Eventually, Pakistan emerged on top in a humdinger of a clash as Naseem Shah -- playing his fourth T20I and who had batted only once prior to this -- smacked two sixes on the trot in the last over to help his side complete a tricky 130-run chase. Being asked to bat first, Afghanistan managed 129-6 but bounced back in style in the middle overs during the second half to reduce Pakistan to 110/8, from 87/3. Thus, they only had to get one more wicket going into the final over.

Meanwhile, Pakistan needed 11 off 6 balls with Naseem-Mohammad Hasnain in the middle. The 19-year-old Naseem hit two successive sixes to finish the run-chase in an emphatic fashion, with four balls to spare. His big strokes sent Pakistani fans into a frenzy as the Men in Green dugout charged into the middle with the players going bonkers. Here's the video of Naseem's sixes:

Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli becomes only second Indian player to smash 100 T20I sixes

Pakistan and Afghanistan were engaged in a humdinger at the Asia Cup 2022 edition on Wednesday (September 07). Playing at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, both sides entered the game with a different agenda on mind. A win for Pakistan would've ensured them a place in the final, along with Sri Lanka, whereas Afghanistan had to emerge on top to remain alive in the Super Four.

Afghanistan's win would've kept India alive in the tournament as well, for another day, but Naseem Shah's last-over sixes sealed Pakistan-Sri Lanka final. Being asked to bat first, Afghanistan only managed 129-6 on a tricky surface with Haris Rauf standing tall for the Men in Green, returning with 2 for 26. In reply, contributions from Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed and finishing cameos from Asif Ali-Naseem took Pakistan home by a wicket in another last-over finish at the Asia Cup.

However, tempers flared in the 22-yard cricket strip as Asif and Afghan pacer Fareed Ahmad Malik -- who ended with 3 for 31 -- got involved in an ugly spat. The incident happened in the 19th over when Asif got out -- after hitting a six -- and Fareed celebrated in his face. Just then, Asif told him to stay away from him and even showed him the bat; as a warning that he would hit him. Afghan pacer Azmutullah Omarzai was quick to join in but as the incident turned uglier, umpires and more Afghan players came to separate the two whereas Pakistan's 12th man Hasan Ali asked the opposition side to remain calm.

At the post-match presentation, Pakistan skipper Babar said, "To be honest, the dressing room was very tensed. The team was walking in and out of the dressing room. Excellent with the way Naseem Shah finished it off. Sharjah is always low-scoring, and Mujeeb and Rashid Khan are two of the best bowlers. We just wanted to take the match deep. The way we started with the ball was excellent. In our batting, we didn't execute our plans very well, but Naseem was outstanding. At the back of the mind, I have seen Naseem play like this earlier, and I had the belief in him. This moment reminds me of Javed Miandad's six. We would like to continue this momentum and not repeat our mistakes. Every day is a different day, and we would like to take it day by day."

In reply, contributions from Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed and finishing cameos from Asif Ali-Naseem took Pakistan home by a wicket in another last-over finish at the Asia Cup.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli showed signs of having returned to his former self after he put up a highly anticipated century on the board in merely 53 balls against Afghanistan towards the tail end of India's innings against them in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup.

With a series of back-to-back boundaries, Kohli stormed to a total of 122* runs off 61 balls. In addition to being his first century in international cricket since November 2019, his latest haul of runs also marked his maiden ton in the shortest format of the game.

With his jaw-dropping century at the Dubai International Stadium, Kohli bolstered India's charge against the Afghanis setting up a target of a whopping 213 for them to chase. Kohli had increasingly shown signs of his former glory since the start of India's Asia Cup campaign, scoring an impressive 59* against Hong Kong and 60 against Pakistan.

Up until the start of the Asia Cup, Kohli had found himself at the receiving end of a significant amount of flak, having gone over 1000 days without scoring an international century across formats. However, with his latest haul of runs, Kohli managed to shut his detractors down for good.

Asia Cup: Virat Kohli finally ends century drought with maiden T20I ton in Afghanistan clash

Chaos ensued outside the Dubai International Stadium even before the first ball of the match was bowled. A building situated near the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which is set to host the Asia Cup Super Four clash between India and Afghanistan, was engulfed in flames merely hours before the start of the match.

The incident took place as eager fans were making their way into the stadium to watch the two teams lock horns with each other. The fumes from the flame were visible from inside the stadium as fans looked on in horror. However, it was brought to heel by the quick response of the concerned authorities shortly after the issue was brought to their attention.

Asia Cup 2022: Massive fire breaks out outside the Dubai International Stadium ahead of India vs Afghanistan

The penultimate clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup Super 4 clash gave one of the most nail-biting finishes of the game. While it provided an “edge-of-the-seat” thriller to the general spectators, the fans of Pakistan and Afghanistan had it otherwise.

Soon after the match ended, as the Pakistan cricket team won the game effectively, quashing the hopes of the Afghanistan team to reach the final, Afghan fans started attacking the Pakistani fans—videos of which have since gone viral.

Anguished Afghanistan fans disrupted one of the stands and randomly started hurling chairs and bottles at Pakistan fans at the Sharjah stadium on Wednesday. The Pakistan fans then tried to evacuate quickly to their safety.

Ravindra Jadeja sustained a knee injury during the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022 edition. With him being ruled out, India went onto lose their first two games in the Super Four round and have bowed out of the competition with one game to play.

Jadeja's injury came as a huge setback for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team in the continental tournament. He attained a wicket and remained economical versus Pakistan and Hong Kong, respectively, and played a crucial 29-ball 35 versus the Men in Green in Men in Blue's tournament-opener. While his knee surgery has been successful, he is expected to begin his rehabilitation to become fit for the 2022 T20 World Cup (head coach Rahul Dravid hasn't ruled out the possibility of his comeback as yet).

Despite him being a vital cog across formats for India, former Indian stumper and chief selector Saba Karim made a bold claim on the 33-year-old Jadeja. Karim feels Jaddu's comeback won't be that easy while speaking on Sports18. He said, “It's a tough phase for him because whenever he comes back, he has always done well and for him to get injured at such a critical juncture in his career is not so easy."

India will be desperate to regain Jadeja's services going into the 2022 T20 WC, in Australia, given they fell flat in the Asia Cup following his exit.

Asia Cup 2022, IND vs SL live streaming: When and where to watch India vs Sri Lanka Super Four match?

Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar opined on Rohit Sharma and his captaincy as Team India crashed out of the Asia Cup 2022. After India's six-wicket loss to Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 6) in the Super Four clash, the Men in Blue were on the brink of elimination and were finally ousted with Pakistan's one-wicket win over Afghanistan in a thriller on Wednesday (September 7).

Talking about India-Sri Lanka clash, Rohit-led India were asked to bat first and rode on the captain's 72 and contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and R Ashwin to post 173-8. However, it wasn't enough as fifties from the Sri Lankan openers Kusal Medis-Pathum Nissanka and captain Dasun Shanaka-Bhanuka Rajapaksa's finishing knocks ensured the Islanders a six-wicket win on the penultimate ball of the contest.

After India's back-to-back defeats in the Super Four, Akhtar commented on their disheartening performances. He feels Asia Cup debacle is a wake-up call for the one-time winners ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, from October-November in Australia. He also insisted there is no need for a change in captaincy despite heavy criticism of Rohit Sharma but highlighted some concerns for Team India.

"You don't have to change the captain again. Rohit Sharma was looking uncomfortable, he was shouting and screaming. There is uncertainty in the Indian camp. In hindsight, this is a good wake up call for India. Now, India know what their final XI should be, especially with the T20 World Cup coming up," Akhtar said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Team India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar has recently found himself at the receiving end of a significant amount of hate after recording a series of disappointing performances in the death overs of two consecutive Super Four clashes that the Men in Blue participated in, during their 2022 Asia Cup campaign.

While the team was plagued with a whole host of problems that led to India failing to emerge triumphant, fans have taken to social media in hordes, blaming pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the loss, courtesy of his uninspiring performance during those particular matches.

Kumar, during his most recent outing against Sri Lanka, gave away 30 runs in 4 overs. While playing against arch-rivals Pakistan in their Super Four clash, on the other hand, Kumar leaked 19 runs in the 19th over, effectively aiding The Shaheens' bid to skip away with the win.

However, while discussing the team's performances and their prospects in forthcoming tournaments during the post-fight media interaction, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma absolved Kumar of any wrongdoing, asserting that even the most experienced bowlers often concede a massive tally of runs.

"Even experienced bowlers go for runs. Bhuvi has been playing for us for so many years and has won us so many matches in death overs," he added.

He subsequently went on to say that the team was not in a troubled space with respect to their performance. Describing their fateful match against the Islanders, Sharma declared that the fault did not lie in Kumar alone.

"We did not bat and score runs in the first six overs the way we wanted. But we got momentum after that. But we failed to capitalise on it and finish the game. I think we were 10-12 runs short, but 175 runs are defendable too. The way spinners bowled, they gave us hope and brought us into the match again. But we could not close the match the way we wanted to," asserted Rohit Sharma.

Arshdeep Singh has not let the vicious abuse and brutal trolling on social media dampen his confidence as he looked in great spirits in India's Super Four clash against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 on Tuesday. Arshdeep was targeted by trolls on social media after he dropped a sitter in India's game against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.

After he spilt the catch, India went on to lose the game by five wickets as Arshdeep faced horrific abuse on social media. Though he couldn't win India the game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, he gave his all trying to defend seven runs off the last over as India went down by six wickets to lose their second game in a row in the Super Four.

When asked about how the players deal with online abuse and trolling, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said the Indian team ignores social media. Rohit said there is too much crap happening online and lauded Arshdeep for bowling with confidence against Sri Lanka despite all the criticism after his mistake against Pakistan.

"Honestly, guys here don't look too much into social media, these days it is too much crap happening there," Rohit said in the post-match press conference after India's loss against Sri Lanka.

"Few losses here and there, a few games here and there, and one dropped catch, I do not think we look too much into it. So that shows, if he was down and out, if you are not mentally there, execution doesn't happen," he added.

Arshdeep was tasked to defend 7 runs off the last over against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The young left-arm fast bowlers did well to drag the game to the penultimate ball but failed to stop Sri Lanka from chasing down the target. Nonetheless, he earned plaudits for his valiant effort in the game.

Praising Arshdeep for the character he has shown despite facing massive criticism after the Pakistan clash, Rohit said he has not seen many youngsters as talented and confident as Arshdeep.

"The reason being, it's pretty simple, he is very clear in his mind. He is a confident lad, I have not seen many guys like that in their early days, he is very confident, he wants to do well and he is quite hungry for success. It is a good sign, even Rahul Bhai will tell you, we are very happy with how he takes his game and approaches it," said the Indian captain.

India's chances of qualifying for the final of the Asia Cup 2022 are now slim after their back-to-back defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India can make it to the final only if Pakistan lose their remaining two matches and the Men in Blue register a big win against Afghanistan.

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's knee surgery successful, says 'will start rehabilitation soon'

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar recently called upon the management of the Indian cricket team to pay close attention to the gaps that were revealed in the team's game so as to ensure that the same issues can be ironed out before the team sets off on its ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign.

Gavaskar asserted that the management and the fans should move on from the setbacks that the team suffered in the United Arab Emirates, and support the team to perform better at the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which is more important in the grander scheme of things.

"India have won the Asia Cup quite a number of times. It's time to get behind and tell them it's happened, but please see the areas you can improve and plug those gaps," said Gavaskar during a recent interaction with India Today.

'Plug those gaps'- Sunil Gavaskar calls upon Indian management to improve and set sights on T20 World Cup

India's Asia Cup 2022 campaign has been derailed after back-to-back losses at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage of the tournament. After losing a last-over thriller against Pakistan on Sunday, India suffered a disappointing six-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Defending a total of 173 runs, India's bowling woes were left exposed in the game as the pace attack was taken to the cleaners. Barring the two spinners - R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked up four wickets between them, all other bowlers went wicket-less against Sri Lanka.

India's bowling has come under the scanner in the tournament but the team has struggled after an untimely injury to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja which forced the Men in Blue to tinker with their combination. Though India roped in Axar Patel as a like-to-like replacement for Jadeja, they played Deepak Hooda in their first two Super Four clashes.

As much as it was to strengthen the batting, Hooda's inclusion was as an all-rounder and he was expected to contribute with the ball as well in Jadeja's absence. However, that wasn't the case as Hooda didn't bowl a single over in the two matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, leaving many baffled.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma explained why Hooda didn't get to bowl even a single over against Sri Lanka and said he felt he needed to attack with his main spinners in the middle overs when India were looking for wickets. However, Rohit insisted he would have bowled Hooda had India managed to take early wickets.

"See, we have 6 bowling options but as I said we also have to try things with five bowlers as well. Today Deepak Hooda was there but Sri Lanka's two right-handers were set so I didn't think I could bring him on at that point because we were trying to get a breakthrough so I wanted our attacking spinners Ashwin and Chahal to bowl. If we had gotten a wicket early, I had planned to bowl Deepak Hooda," Rohit explained at the post-match presser.

"Six bowling options are always nice we know that and we have played with that combination. So when we go to the World Cup, that will be our thinking, to play with a combination which allows us to have six bowling options," he added.

Hooda was the sixth bowling option for India in the must-win game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday and could have been deployed when the Indian bowlers were being tonked to all parts of the ground by Sri Lankan openers, who added 97 runs for the first wicket and turned the game in their team's favour.

Many also questioned the decision to not bowl Hooda as he was included in the playing XI at the sacrifice of Dinesh Karthik, who has been in red-hot form as a finisher. With two defeats in a row, India's chances of making it to the final are dim but they still have a glimmer of hope if some results go in their favour.
