‘Runs are irrelevant’- Virat Kohli admits he’s enjoying his batting stint in Asia Cup

Rohit Sharma's Team India beat Hong Kong by 40 runs in their second match at the Asia Cup 2022 edition, on Wednesday (August 31), at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Being asked to bat first, Rohit & Co. rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 26-ball 68 not out and Virat Kohli's 59, off 44 balls, to post a mammoth 192-2. In reply, India restricted Hong Kong to 152-5 in 20 overs, winning by 40 runs to book a spot in the Super Four round.

With another win up his sleeves as the T20I captain, Rohit has now gone past his predecessor Virat to become the second-most successful skipper in the shortest format for the Men in Blue. The list is topped by legendary captain MS Dhoni, who attained 41 wins from 72 matches. Virat ended his T20I captaincy tenure, from early 2017 to late 2021, with 30 victories from 50 games. Rohit, on the other hand, attained his 31st victory as captain in just 37 encounters after the end of proceedings between India-Hong Kong on Wednesday evening.

Rohit took over as the full-time T20I captain post Virat's exit following the disastrous run in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Since then, Rohit has led India to home series wins versus New Zealand, West Indies and away victories over England and West Indies. He will now aim to clinch the Asia Cup trophy before the action shifts to the 2022 T20 World Cup.

We have seen that with him every now and then. He comes up with suck kinds of knocks. He just comes out and bats fearlessly which is what the team expects from him. Some of the shots he played today, those are not written anywhere in the book. It was very pleasing to watch. Shot selection was also crucial. We know he can play all around the park. We have also informed the group about this (flexibility in the batting order) as well. Most of the guys are ready to take the opportunity and be ready to bat wherever required. That's the flexibility we need. We'll take those chances. We are going to try and use the right match-ups."

Ravindra Jadeja played his part in India's thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 clash on August 28 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The star all-rounder returned with bowling figures of 2-0-11-0 and scored a crucial 29-ball 35 after being promoted at No. 4 in the Men in Blue's run-chase of 148 versus their arch-rivals.

In India's second game of the showpiece event, Jadeja didn't get a chance to bat as Rohit Sharma & Co. posted a mammoth 192/2 in 20 overs versus Hong Kong, after being asked to bat first at the same venue. However, the 33-year-old returned with an economical spell of 4-0-15-1 and inflicted a run-out as well. He dismissed Hong Kong captain Nizakhat Khan, on a free hit delivery, to derail the minnows' run-chase on Wednesday (August 31). The run-out took place on the last ball of the powerplay, with Hong Kong 51 for 1. On a back of a length delivery, Nizakhat pushed the ball towards the backward point where Jadeja was placed. Trying to steal a single, the Hong Kong skipper paid a heavy price by taking on one of the best fielders as Jadeja's rocket throw sent him back to the pavillion. Here's the video of the run-out:

India beat Hong Kong by 40 runs to book a spot in the Super Four round in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, on Wednesday (August 31). While India didn't break a lot of sweat after posting a mammoth total, Hong Kong did put up a spirited show in parts.

Hong Kong bowlers didn't allow India to dictate terms with the bat during the first half of their innings. At halfway stage, India were 70-1 and before SKY-Kohli's heroics in the death overs. When India weren't accelerating as much as they would've wanted to, a bulk of criticism came down to KL Rahul. The vice-captain, who returned to international cricket after a long gap, was struggling with his timing and didn't show much intent. Thus, former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad lashed out at him on Twitter during the proceedings on Wednesday (August 31), held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

"Is there something in the pitch that is not visible? Simply can't fathom this approach, especially from KL Rahul. #IndvsHkg" Prasad wrote on Twitter.

Kohli smashed an unbeaten 59 while Suryakumar scored 68* to guide India to a challenging total. For Hong Kong, Mohammad Ghazanfar and Ayush Shukla bagged one wicket each. Put to bat first, India got off to a flying start as their openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul hammered Hong Kong bowlers for 38 runs in under five overs. Rohit`s stint was cut short as he fell prey to Hong Kong`s Ayush Shukla`s delivery after scoring 21 runs in 13 balls. The Indian skipper mistimed his shot and was caught at mid-off. The loss of the captain`s wicket invited Virat Kohli, who played every ball with caution and kept rotating the strike. Rahul shifted the gears and smashed the ball on the stands with a marvellous six on Aizaz Khan`s delivery. Asia Cup: India seal Super Four spot with decisive victory against Hong Kong

With his latest outing against Asia Cup rivals Hong Kong at the Dubai International Stadium, Rohit Sharma reached an extremely impressive milestone, effectively becoming the only player to boast of a unique record.

Although Sharma's performance against Hong Kong was nothing to write home about, it was just enough to earn him the mantle of the first player to reach 3500 runs in the shortest format of the game. His total haul of runs in the T20I format stands at a whopping 3,520.

He recorded the feat in the fourth ball that he faced against Hong Kong with a simple single. However, he failed to build on his impressive tally of runs as he could only manage to accumulate 21 runs off of 13 balls. During his short-lived stint on the pitch against Hong Kong, Sharma managed to put on a pair of fours and a six on the scoreboard.

However, it is interesting to note that Sharma, who happens to be the highest run-getter in the format, is only the first male player to record the impressive feat considering how New Zealand's Suzie Bates beat him to the pie as she currently has an uber-impressive run tally of 3531.

The teenage bowling sensation Naseem Shah recorded an extremely successful T20I debut in one of the most enthralling matches that the Men in Green could play. Shah was credited with the wickets of ace batsman KL Rahul and veteran Ravindra Jadeja, thoroughly impressing fans with his pace and control.

The Rawalpindi-based Mohammad Nawaz, on the other hand, managed to etch his name in international cricketing folklore as he walked away from the match after having scalped three wickets.

"Our only game plan was to take the game as deep as possible. Naseem Shah bowled very well and took crucial wickets for the team. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish but I think Nawaz should be given credit for performing well in the pressure game.

Hardik Pandya has become the man of the season. Hardik returned to competitive cricket in IPL 2022, after the 2021 T20 World Cup, and ended with 487 runs along with eight wickets and led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden IPL title.

Since then, there has been no looking back for the 28-year-old star all-rounder. Hardik has won games for India at regular intervals -- in the home South Africa T20Is, during the away series versus England and West Indies -- and was also the star performer for Rohit Sharma & Co. during their Asia Cup opener, versus Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday (August 28).

While Hardik is performing in all departments, he is looking fit and also growing as a leader. The star cricketer's calm and composed nature is being hailed all across the cricketing fraternity. His confident nod to non-striker Dinesh Karthik just before hitting the winning shot versus Pakistan went viral, with many lauding his calmness and comparing it with MS Dhoni.

Recently, Hardik's GT coach and former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra opined on his success and told in an interaction with ICC, "Yes, even I've observed it. And it is necessary. With time and experience, you learn things both as a human being and as a player. Pandya is no different. You might have seen him talking about it. He has said that he has learned different things from different experiences. Now he is married, father of a kid, and matured. With Agastya's arrival, he has become more calm and is more focused on his work," he added.

Hardik's form is a huge asset for India going ahead into the 2022 T20 World Cup. For now, he will be eager to guide India to the Asia Cup championship before the action moves to the ICC event, to be held from October-November in Australia.

Former pacer Ashish Nehra opines on Hardik Pandya, explains reason behind Team India star's success

Virat Kohli returned to international cricket after a long time during India's Asia Cup 2022 opener versus Pakistan, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, on Sunday (August 28). The 33-year-old's form has been talked about a lot in the last few months. The right-hander's last international century came in late 2019 whereas he had an ordinary IPL 2022 followed by a dismal tour of England, where he ended without a half-century across formats.

Against Pakistan, Kohli came out to bat after KL Rahul got out for a golden duck in India's pursuit of 148. He stitched a handy 49-run second-wicket stand with skipper Rohit Sharma. Eventually, the former Indian captain fell for a 34-ball 35 but showed promise of returning to form with some impressive shots.

India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev opined on Kohli and lauded him for his attitude for sticking out in the middle versus Pakistan during a tricky phase of the run-chase. In addition, he mentioned his attitude as the biggest factor which makes him a bigger player than anyone else in the last ten years.

"Good to see him come back. I saw a couple of shots where he really made an impact. I just want him to be more sure about that. So far, he is coming back, he looked good. He was lucky in the first over when he was dropped. I like his attitude not only today, but from the last ten years. This makes him a bigger player than anyone else," Kapil told ANI.

Rishabh Pant's omission from India's playing XI for their Asia Cup opening clash versus Pakistan made heads turn. Not many would've expected Pant to be left out -- given his rise at the highest level in recent times -- despite Dinesh Karthik also doing well as a finisher in the shortest format.

Rohit Sharma-led India, however, pulled off a suprise by going ahead with Karthik for the Pakistan clash. Opting to bowl first in Dubai, India dismissed Pakistan for 147 in 19.5 overs and later chased it down in the last over courtesy of Virat Kohli's 34-ball 35, Ravindra Jadeja's 29-ball 35 (who came to bat at No. 4) and Hardik's 17-ball 33 not out (along with his three scalps) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Ahead of India's clash versus Hong Kong, on Wednesday (August 31) at the same venue, former Indian-opener-turned-expert Aakash Chopra shared his pick among Pant and DK.

"Can there be any changes done in this match? I feel there is one change that should but will not happen. If you have to play Jaddu (Jadeja) at No. 4 and you need a left-hander at No. 4 for sure, if you can't do without that, then play Rishabh Pant because, at No. 7, you are doing a grave injustice to Dinesh Karthik also," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"What is the gain from batting there? A specialist does not play at No. 7, but I feel that is not going to happen. India are going to go with the same team in this match," he added.

Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik? Aakash Chopra shares his pick for India's Asia Cup clash vs Hong Kong

Rishabh Pant's omission from Team India's playing XI for their Asia Cup 2022 opener, versus arch-rivals Pakistan, made a lot of noise. While Pant hasn't taken the shortest format by a storm so far in his brief career, his returns in Tests and maiden ODI century during the England tour continue to keep him in the scheme of things in T20Is.

Pant's power-hitting is well known, with good numbers in the IPL, and his stocks are rising at regular intervals at the international arena. However, Dinesh Karthik was preferred over Pant -- who has done well as a finisher in the format following his comeback into the national setup since the South Africa home T20Is in June.

Ahead of India's match versus Hong Kong, in Dubai on Wednesday evening (August 31), all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was asked to elaborate on Pant's non-selection in the high-voltage Indo-Pak clash, where Rohit Sharma & Co. won by five wickets. To this, Jadeja gave an epic reaction.

He replied saying, "I absolutely don't know this. This is a question out of my book," he said. Here's the viral video from the India-Hong Kong pre-match press conference in Dubai:

Talking about Rohit-led India's run in the Asia Cup, being held in the shortest format in the UAE, the Men in Blue will look to go past Hong Kong and cement their spot in the Super Four round. The seven-time champions beat Pakistan by five wickets on Sunday (August 28) in an encounter that went down to the wire. Hardik's 3/25 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4-26 dismissed Men in Green for 147 in 19.5 overs after they were asked to bat first.

In reply, Jadeja's 29-ball 35 and Hardik's 17-ball 33 not out took India past the finish line.

Asia Cup 2022, IND vs HK live streaming: When and where to watch India vs Hong Kong match?

India and Pakistan locked horns with each other on Sunday (August 28) in their respective opening games in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Both the senior men's team met after their 2021 T20 World Cup clash, also held at the same venue, where Babar Azam & Co. thrashed India by ten wickets to achieve their first-ever World Cup win versus their arch-rivals.

In the recently-held encounter, Rohit Sharma-led India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Riding on Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4 for 26 and Hardik Pandya's 3-25, India dismissed Pakistan for a modest 147 in 19.5 overs. This became the first instance of the Indian seamers picking up all ten wickets in a T20I. In reply, India had lost KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the run-chase and were tottering at 89-4 before Hardik Pandya's 17-ball 33 not out and Ravindra Jadeja's 29-ball 35 propelled the Men in Blue to a thrilling five-wicket win in the last over.

The cricket fans are, however, in for a treat as India and Pakistan are very likely to meet each other as many as two more times in the ongoing Asian championship, in the UAE.

Here's how India-Pakistan can once again meet in the Super Four round

Given the format of the Asia Cup -- being held in the shortest format for only the second time in the tournament history -- the six teams are divided into two groups of three. The top two teams from each group will make it to the Super Four round, where all sides will play each other once. If India and Pakistan end as the top two sides -- with both the Asian giants expected to romp past minnows Hong Kong in Group A -- it can see the two heavyweights battle it out once again on September 4 (Sunday) when A1 vs A2 clash will take place in the next round.

Who qualifies for the final?

The top-two sides in the Super 4 round will meet each other in the final, to be held on September 11. Given India and Pakistan are the two strongest sides in the tournament, they can lock horns in the summit clash as well. It is to be noted that there has never been an Indo-Pak finale in the Asia Cup history. However, this might be the edition that can see the two teams clash in the final.

Explained: How India-Pakistan can square off again in Super 4 round at Asia Cup

Hardik Pandya was the game-changer for India as he produced an exceptional all-round performance to propel Rohit Sharma & Co. to a thrilling 5-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2022 opener at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. Hardik picked up a three-wicket haul before playing a match-winning knock of unbeaten 33 to take India home in a pressure run-chase.

After captain Rohit Sharma's decision to bowl first in the high-pressure clash, Indian bowlers made excellent use of the conditions and utilised the short ball well against the Pakistani batters to trouble them throughout their innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India with a four-wicket haul while Hardik scalped three as Pakistan were skittled out for a paltry 147 in 20 overs.

It was expected to be a tough chase for the Men in Blue, considering the bounce on offer for the pacers and it did turn out to be a tricky one at the end. India once again got off to a shaky start as Naseem Shah sent opener KL Rahul packing on a duck in the very first over before Rohit and Virat Kohli added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket.

The duo steadied the ship for the team but were dismissed in quick succession. While Rohit struggled for his 12 off 18 balls, Kohli played some fine strokes en route to 35 off 34 balls but once again failed to convert his start into a big score.

After the duo's departure, Ravindra Jadeja, who surprisingly came out to bat at no.4, added 36 runs for the fourth wicket with Surykaumar Yadav. Suryakumar was cleaned up by Shah after a run-a-ball 18 paving the way for Hardik's arrival as the all-rounder joined forces with Jadeja in the middle and took India closer to the finishing line.

With 21 runs required off the final 12 deliveries in India's 148-run chase, Hardik slammed three boundaries off four balls in the penultimate over from fast bowler Haris Rauf to bring the equation in India's favour before finishing things off in style in the final over.

Jadeja was dismissed on the very first delivery of the final over leaving India in a tricky spot despite just 7 runs needed as Dinesh Karthik arrived in the middle. However, Hardik looked unfazed by Jadeja's untimely dismissal and showed no signs of pressure even after playing a dot ball on the third delivery to leave six runs to get off the last three balls.

The star all-rounder smacked a huge six in a nonchalant manner on the 4th delivery to take India home without breaking a sweat. It was a stunning all-round performance from Hardik as he followed up his three-wicket haul with a match-winning 33 to be named the Man of the Match in the marquee clash.

Asia Cup 2022: Hardik Pandya stars as India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in last-over thriller

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said it was a massive surprise to see Rohit Sharma & Co. drop wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant for Dinesh Karthik in the high-profile clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Karthik, who has been absolutely sensational as a finisher of late, made his comeback for India earlier this year.

Many had written off 37-year-old Karthik, who last featured for India at the 2019 World Cup before making his comeback earlier this year. The veteran keeper-batter has been enjoying a stellar run with the willow and has been brilliant in the lower-middle order. He had earned a spot in India's squad for the ongoing Asia Cup courtesy of his recent finishing heroics.

However, Pant has been India's first-choice wicket-keeper batter in all three formats for a while now and was expected to be picked ahead of Karthik. His absence from the playing XI also deprived India of a left-hander in their top five against Pakistan which saw them promote Ravindra Jadeja to number 4.

Sharing his take on India's decision to pick Karthik ahead of Pant, a surprised Gambhir said the team should not experiment too much with a handful of T20 matches left ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year. Gambhir believes having Karthik over Pant makes India's batting line-up one-dimensional due to the lack of a left-hander.

"I won't experiment from now on because how many games do we have… this Asia Cup? And then you've got what… five more games, six more games and then the World Cup. From now on, you want a settled Playing XI. Yes, you can have your backups as well but that is the way I would have wanted. It is a bit of a surprise because Rishabh Pant has been an X-factor," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

"You need a left-handed in the middle order. India have a lot of right-handers there, which is one-dimensional. And he has done reasonably well. He can be someone who can open the game for you and he can be a floater as well. A bit surprising but I hope it is not long-term. I will still back Rishabh Pant ahead of Dinesh Karthik. It's a massive surprise," he added.

Also Read: Virat Kohli gifts signed jersey to Pakistan pacer, wins hearts with his heartwarming gesture - WATCH Sharing his take on India's decision to pick Karthik ahead of Pant, a surprised Gambhir said the team should not experiment too much with a handful of T20 matches left ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year. Morning news brief: NASA’s Artemis mission to the Moon, floods in Pakistan, and more

Hardik Pandya was at his best when India locked horns with Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022, beating them by five wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday (August 28). After Rohit Sharma-led India opted to bowl first, Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4/26 and Hardik's 3 for 25 dismissed Babar Azam-led Men in Green for a modest 147 in 19.5 overs.

In reply, Hardik joined India's run-chase at 89-4 in 14.2 overs, with the big three Rohit, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli back in the pavillion. The all-rounder stitched a match-winning 52-run fifth-wicket stand with Ravindra Jadeja (29-ball 35) before ending with a fine 17-ball 33 not out and ending proceedings with a fine six, over long-on, in the last over. With India needing seven off the last six deliveries, Rohit & Co. lost Jadeja on the first ball of the final over. Nonetheless, Hardik remained calm and composed as ever to complete the run-chase in style. After India's close win over arch-rivals Pakistan, an Afghanistan fan's celebration has gone viral.

In the video, he can be seen kissing Hardik on TV screens. The clip has become an instant hit on social media platform Twitter.

At the post-match presentation, the 28-year-old Hardik opined, "In bowling, it's important to assess the situations and use your weapons. For me, bowling short and the hard lengths have been my strengths. It's about using them well and asking the right questions to make the batters commit a mistake. In a chase like this, you always plan over-by-over. I always knew that there is one young bowler and also one left-arm spinner. We only needed 7 off the last over but even if we needed 15, I'd have fancied myself. I know the bowler is under more pressure than me in the 20th over. I try to keep things simple."

Hardik Pandya was the star performer for Team India when they opened their campaign in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, locking horns with Babar Azam's Pakistan at the Duvai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday evening (August 28). After Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4 for 26 and Hardik's 3-fer dismissed Pakistan for 147 in 19.5 overs, as Men in Blue opted to bowl first, India rode on Ravindra Jadeja's 29-ball 35 and Hardik's 17-ball 33 not out to achieve a thrilling five-wicket win infront of a jam-packed crowd at the venue.

Hardik came out to bat with India reduced to 89-4, following spinner Mohammad Nawaz's twin strikes, in the 15th over of the run-chase. He stitched a valuable 52-run stand for the fifth-wicket with Jadeja before losing his partner on the first ball of the last over, with 7 required for a victory. Jadeja went for the aerial shot but didn't connect as Nawaz struck once again to bring the match alive. With Dinesh Karthik coming in, preferred over Rishabh Pant in the playing XI, he gave the strike to Hardik on the next ball. The 28-year-old drove the following delivery powerfully but failed to close the game. With six required off three deliveries, Karthik said something to Hardik whose confident nod went viral in no time. On the next ball, the all-rounder connected and slammed a huge six over long-on to finish the run-chase in style.

Afghanistan stun Sri Lanka, score easy 8-wicket win in Asia Cup opening clash

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the opening game in the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. India and Pakistan's rivalry provokes strong emotions on both side of the border. Today, the two sides will renew their rivalry. For more details, we're joined by WION's correspondent Preeti Dahiya.

Asia Cup 2022| India Vs Pakistan today: Bitter rivals to face off in Dubai

The rivalry between Asian giants India and Pakistan transcends geographical borders. Cricket matches played between the two countries are some of the most high-octane affairs in international cricket.

Although the two countries often lock horns with each other in international tournaments like the ICC World Cup and the Asia Cup, it has been quite some time since they have competed with each other in bilateral series, owing to the tensions that exist between the neighbouring countries.

However, former Pakistan international Waqar Younis recently urged the countries to consider hosting bilateral series with each other owing to the hype that surrounds their matches. He offered fans some insight into the same while in conversation with the media.

"I am not saying that India and Pakistan should keep playing each other, that will end the charm of the rivalry. But the two teams must play bilateral."

He drew parallels between the Ashes and the matches played between India and Pakistan, admitting that the latter pipped the former when it came to the quality and marketability of the kind of cricket being played.

"I don't think that Ashes is the biggest rivalry on the planet. I don't think that the series in England are the top of the file. When India and Pakistan play, there is no better cricket than that. So I feel that once in a year or two years the two teams should play bilateral series," said Younis.

Fortunately for Younis, India and Pakistan will be butting heads with each other on numerous occasions over the course of 2022, owing to the schedules of international tournaments. However, the probability of the two countries engaging in bilateral series remains slim at this point in time.

He offered fans some insight into the same while in conversation with the media. "I am not saying that India and Pakistan should keep playing each other, that will end the charm of the rivalry. But the two teams must play bilateral." He drew parallels between the Ashes and the matches played between India and Pakistan, admitting that the latter pipped the former when it came to the quality and marketability of the kind of cricket being played. While not much has changed for Pakistan since then, India have undergone a massive transformation under captain Rohit Sharma. India vs Pakistan: A look at results of last five meetings between the arch-rivals in Asia Cup

India captain Rohit Sharma has played down the hype surrounding the much-awaited clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022. Rohit said he will treat the high-profile encounter as just another game and won't stress too much about India's 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the last meeting between the two sides at the T20 World Cup 2021 in a lop-sided clash in Dubai.

India and Pakistan are set to renew their rivalry at the same venue in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (August 28).

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in cricket and there is a significant buzz surrounding the clash on Sunday. Millions of fans around the globe are likely to remain glued to their TV screens when the two giants take on each other in what promises to be a cracker.

However, Indian skipper Rohit wants to treat it as just another game. "The mood in the camp is buzzing. It is a fresh tournament. New start. No point thinking about the loss. We need not think what happened in the past. We also want to move in the forward direction. It is always challenging to play Pakistan but what is important for us is what we want to achieve together than thinking about the opposition," Rohit said in the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

"You people can create the hype, I'll focus on the match," he added.

India are missing fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel during this tournament, but the Pakistan clash will mark the return of Virat Kohli after a short break. The batting maestro has been under fire over his lean patch with the willow and will be hopeful of sparking a turnaround against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

‘You learn from mistakes’- Rohit Sharma on how T20 World Cup loss to Pakistan affected India's Asia Cup prep

Pakistan suffered a huge setback ahead of the start of the Asia Cup 2022 as fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi had to pull out of the tournament due to an injury. Afridi has been one of the vital cogs in the Pakistan bowling attack for a few years now and his absence will certainly hamper Pakistan's chances in the competition.

Afridi was the destructor-in-chief for Pakistan when Babar Azam & Co. faced India at the T20 World Cup last year. The left-arm pacer ran through India's top-order bagging a three-wicket haul to set up Pakistan's first win against their arch-rivals in a World Cup match.

However, he is set to miss Pakistan's opening game against India in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (August 28). While many believe his absence is a huge advantage for India, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly feels one player cannot make much of a difference in a game between India and Pakistan.

The former India captain also pointed out India too will miss the services of their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. "I don't think one player can make a difference. It's teamwork. We also don't have Jasprit Bumrah,” Ganguly told India Today.

Afridi's absence from the tournament has been one of the major talking points in the Pakistan cricket fraternity ahead of the Asia Cup clash against India. The fast bowler has been a prolific wicket-taker for the Men in Green across formats over the last couple of years and could have made an impact for his team against Rohit Sharma's men.

While Pakistan will miss Afridi, India will miss their best fast bowler in Bumrah, who was left out due to back issues. Along with Bumrah, India are also missing the services of right-arm pacer Harshal Patel due to an injury and the onus will on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead India's pace attack against Pakistan.

Along with Bhuvneshwar, India have picked Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh in their pace battery and will be expecting the young duo to deliver on the big stage.

Social media has been flooded with footage of wholesome interactions between players of the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams.

Virat Kohli was recently recorded having cheery conversation with star pacer Shaheen Afridi, who has been ruled out of active contention due to an injury.

Kohli also shared a heartwarming moment with the Pakistani skipper as the duo greeted each other, sharing a friendly handshake.

In fact, Virat Kohli even went as far as to regard Babar Azam as one of the most adept batsmen in the international cricketing circuit, hailing him as a top performer.

Kohli further asserted that Azam, in addition to being the most talented batsman across all formats, is an extremely humble and down to Earth individual.

The last time India and Pakistan locked horns with each other in the same venue, it ended up being an extremely one-sided affair, leaning in favour of The Shaheens.
