All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named as the Bangladesh captain for the upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. The BCB also announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, which will be played in the UAE from August 27. The Asia Cup 15th edition of the tournament will be played in the UAE between six teams (main event). Defending champions India are also the most successful team, having won the trophy seven times. While the last edition of the tournament was held in an ODI format, this edition will feature the T20 format.

The six teams are divided into two groups with India, Pakistan and a qualifying team in Group A; and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan forming Group B. Each team plays the other once in the group stage with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 4 round. The top 2 teams from Super 4 will qualify for the final. Shakib will not only lead Bangladesh in the upcoming Asia Cup but also the Tri-Nation T20 series involving Pakistan and hosts New Zealand in October followed by the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Shakib Al Hasan named Bangladesh captain for Asia Cup, tri-series in NZ and T20 World Cup

Virat Kohli's form remains a hot topic of discussion in the cricketing fraternity. The former Indian captain hasn't scored an international hundred since late 2019, in the pre-Covid era, and had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 whereas returned without a single half-century under his belt during India's tour of England.

While Kohli is gearing up for his return to international cricket, as he was rested for the white-ball tour of West Indies, ahead of the Asia Cup, former Pakistan pacer Aaquib Javed has made a big claim. The ex-speedster feels Pakistan's batting sensation and captain Babar Azam, who is often compared to Kohli, won't have a rough patch as long as the Indian star batter.

“There are two types of great players. One who, if they get stuck, their rough patch continues for a long time. The others are technically-sound players, whose rough patch cannot continue that long, like Babar Azam, Kane Williamson, Joe Root. It is difficult to find their weakness. Kohli gets stuck at times with those deliveries outside off stump. James Anderson has targetted that a million times," said Javed while speaking&nbsp;on Paktv.tv.

“If Kohli doesn't perform, and India lose, they also face a similar situation like us. Then questions tend to arise that why didn't they play an in-form Deepak Hooda. But in UAE pitches, even out-of-form batters tend to find rhythm,” Javed added.

Both Kohli and Babar will face each other in the upcoming India-Pakistan clash, on August 28, in Asia Cup 2022 edition. The mega event will&nbsp;be held&nbsp;in the UAE from August 27 to September 11. The competition will be held in the T20I format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Technically sound Babar Azam won't have rough patch as long as Virat Kohli: Ex-Pakistan pacer's big claim

Before Pakistan locks horns with Team India in both sides' tournament-openers in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green will travel to Netherlands for three ODIs against the Dutch side.&nbsp;

Ahead of the tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a full-strength squad for the Netherlands ODIs. This hasn't been well received by former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria and he has slammed the team management. The tainted spinner feels Pakistan should 'show some courage' and give more chances to youngsters during such tours, taking a leaf from India.

In the recent past, India have rotated their senior players and given chances to a lot of young stars their recent trips to Ireland, West Indies and now Zimbabwe (to kick off from August 18 in the African nation). In addition, many young leaders such as Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah&nbsp;have been tested in captaincy role since the 2021 T20 World Cup.

"India are looking at the future. Unfortunately, Pakistan are not thinking on similar lines. There is no emphasis on creating a bench strength. They need to change their mentality and show some courage. On the Netherlands tour, they could have given young players some chances," Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

Kaneria further pointed out that he feels India are much better prepared for the forthcoming Asian championship, to kick off from August 27 in the subcontinent. In this regard, he opined, "Pakistan have played very few T20Is since last year’s World Cup. They played seven and won six. They played one big T20 game against Australia and lost that as well."

"In comparison, India have played 24 matches, winning 20 (19). India’s ratio is much higher and they have mostly played their B and C teams. As Rohit Sharma said, India is creating a bench strength," Kaneria added.

There are high chances of India and Pakistan meeting each other thrice in the Asia Cup (including the final) and are also placed in the same group in the 2022 T20 World Cup (to be held in Australia from October-November).

'Show some courage' - Danish Kaneria slams Pakistan, urges them to take a leaf from India

Team India's Asia Cup squad was announced on August 8 (Monday) by the BCCI selection committee. The Rohit Sharma-led line-up saw the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and vice-captain KL Rahul but Jasprit Bumrah's absence stunned one and all as the premier pacer has sustained a back injury.&nbsp;

Thus, Rohit &amp; Co. will be without Bumrah for the forthcoming Asian championship, to be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The speedster is&nbsp;now undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru and no date has been set for his return. As per a report, it seems Bumrah's comeback won't be anytime soon, and might also miss the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Speaking to InsideSport, a BCCI official has claimed that Bumrah needs to be managed very carefully. "Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” an official told.

Needless to say, Bumrah will be missed in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be played in the shortest format for the second time in the tournament history. India kick off their campaign versus arch-rival Pakistan on August 28, in Dubai, and will hope to go the distance as the competition will be an ideal dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November.

With Pakistan's tour of the Netherlands fast approaching, team captain Babar Azam recently opened up about Shaheen Afridi's fitness, which has been a matter of great discourse after he was shackled to the sidelines due to an injury. He admitted that the team was hoping for him to find his way back to active contention sooner rather than later.

In addition to their tour of the Netherlands, the Pakistani squadron is also hurtling towards a clash against India in the Asia Cup. They are set to lock horns with each other on August 28th. Afridi, who played a vital role against&nbsp;India during their memorable win at the 2021 T20 World Cup, will most certainly be the biggest threat to the Men in Blue yet again.

Ahead of the 2022 Asian championship, let us recall former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and veteran Pakistan keeper-batter Kamran Akmal's ugly spat during the 2010 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. In a tight contest, in Dambulla, Shahid Afridi-led Men in Green rode on Salman Butt's 74 and Kamran's 51&nbsp;to post&nbsp;267&nbsp;all-out in 49.3 overs.&nbsp;

In reply, Gambhir's 83, then Indian skipper MS Dhoni's 56, Suresh Raina's 27-ball 34 and Harbhajan Singh's 11-ball 15 not out propelled India to a stunning three-wicket win. However, there was a lot of action and drama during India's tense run-chase. At the time of Dhoni-Gambhir's 98-run third-wicket stand, the latter and Kamran got involved in a heated exchange following a caught-behind appeal from the Pakistani stumper. Here's the video:

India and Pakistan are gearing up to meet each other in their opening game&nbsp;in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition&nbsp;being held in the UAE. The tournament will be played in the shortest format, as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup later this year, and India will enter as the defending champions.

For the unversed, India have won the Asia Cup on as many as seven occasions, winning the last two seasons, including the only edition held in the T20I format, whereas the Men in Green have won it only twice. Both teams have played each other on several occasions in the tournament's history but never locked horns in the summit clash.

In this year's edition, there are chances of an Indo-Pak clash on three occasions, including the final. Ahead of Pakistan's tour of Netherlands, Pakistan captain Babar Azam addressed a press conference where he was asked whether his side is ready to make it 3-0 versus India if they face them thrice in Asia Cup 2022 (including the group stage, Super Four round and final).

"Dekhe pressure kuchh nahi hai. Koshish yahi hoti hai ki match ko match ki tarah&nbsp;hi khelein.&nbsp;(We'll try to approach it like any other match)," Babar&nbsp;replied.

The group stage clash between the two Asian giants will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai,&nbsp;where India and Pakistan last played each other in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Back then, Babar &amp; Co. had achieved their first-ever win over the Men in Blue in a World Cup clash.

"Yes, there will be different pressure, but as we tried in the last World Cup (not to let it affect us), we'll try to focus on our game and believe in our abilities. This time as well, our focus will be to give our best. Putting our best effort is in our hands, but results are not. If we give our best, then more often than not, results will also come," Babar further asserted.

"Dekhe pressure kuchh nahi hai. Koshish yahi hoti hai ki match ko match ki tarah hi khelein. (We'll try to approach it like any other match)," Babar replied. Back then, Babar & Co. had achieved their first-ever win over the Men in Blue in a World Cup clash.

Asia Cup: Will Pakistan make it 3-0 vs India on facing them thrice? Babar Azam answers journalist's query

The BCCI selection committee announced a 15-member Team India squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition on Monday (August 08). The tournament will be held in the UAE with India, the defending champions, to begin their campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.

This time around, the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format — the second time in the tournament's history — as a rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, in October-November. India's squad sees the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and KL Rahul whereas Jasprit Bumrah missed out due to a back injury. Nonetheless, former chief selector and keeper-batter Kiran More was unimpressed seeing R Ashwin hold onto his spot, who was recalled for the West Indies T20Is.

“I was surprised. How can Ashwin even come in this team? And every time. Even in the last World Cup, he was picked in the team and then did not play. Look at his IPL record, it is not that good. I really felt Shami should have taken that role or Axar Patel. And Axar has performed very well. Shami is my player, and he will go to the World Cup. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” More said on Star Sports.

'How can he come in this team?': Ex-chief selector on star player's inclusion in India squad for Asia Cup

After beating India for the first time in a World Cup clash during the 2021 T20 showpiece event last year, Pakistan will face Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue when both sides meet in the forthcoming Asia Cup. The Asian championship will kick off on August 27, in the UAE, and the arch-rivals will meet at the same venue (in Dubai) -- where they last met in October 2021 -- to resume their rivalry.

Ahead of the marquee clash, former Pakistan pacer&nbsp;Tauseef Ahmed has lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not settling the Men in Green line-up and feels Babar Azam &amp; Co. only care about facing India in the mega event in the UAE.

“Ye rona dhona toh bohot puraana hai (this has been going on for long now). You didn't try to settle the team. The same players that were there a few years ago are coming back in some way or the other. When something this crucial coming up, you go back to those players about whom you once said that they should leave cricket. It means you didn't have a back-up plan,” Ahmed told&nbsp;Sports Paktv.

'We only care about those 2-3 games vs India' - Former Pak pacer slams Babar & Co. ahead of Asia Cup

Virat Kohli's name continues to make heads turn. While the former Indian captain has been out of action from international cricket since India's tour of England, the 33-year-old is still making the headlines as there is a lot of talk regarding his form.

Kohli has been going through a lean patch for quite long. He ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 whereas his century-drought continus since late 2019. Ahead of his return in Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka legend and Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene opined on Kohli's poor form. The former right-handed batter feels it is 'unfortunate' what Virat is going through but has backed him to 'come out of it'.

Speaking on ICC Review show, Jayawardene said, "It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player. I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump). He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary."

<section>
Further, Jayawardene also opined on Rishabh Pant as an opener, who has opened the innings for India on a few occasions in the recent past in white-ball formats. "Even though he (Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)," Jayawardene stated.&nbsp;

India are yet to finalise their openers ahead of the T20 World Cup and there are now several contenders, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav who can open with captain Rohit Sharma.

Along with Virat, KL Rahul also made a comeback. He has been out of action since IPL 2022 and last played an international game in February. Thus, Jayawardene feels he needs game time before getting into his groove. "That (Rahul's lack of cricket) would be a concern for India. He has been out for a little while since the IPL, so having game time is quite crucial especially out there in the middle. The sooner he can get some game time and get that confidence back, is always going to help him, as well as the national team" the Sri Lankan concluded.

'It is unfortunate...' - SL legend Mahela Jayawardene reacts to Virat Kohli's barren run ahead of Asia Cup

Virat Kohli is gearing up for his return in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Kohli was out of action during Rohit Sharma-led India's white-ball tour of West Indies as the out-of-form batter was given rest and, hence, all eyes are now on his comeback.&nbsp;

Ahead of his return, Kohli is on the verge of attaining a unique feat under his belt. So far, he has represented India in 99 T20Is and, hence, the Men in Blue's Asia Cup opener, versus Pakistan on August 28, will see him play his 100th game in the format. Thus, he will become only the second cricketer overall to play 100 matches in all forms of the game for his national side. Earlier, Ross Taylor had attained this feat during Kohli-led India's tour of New Zealand in the pre-Covid era in early 2020.

Prior to the Asia Cup campaign, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined on Kohli's form. The star Indian batter has been woefully out of touch of late and, hence, there is a lot of pressure on him ahead of India's T20 World Cup squad announcement.&nbsp;

In this regard, Chopra told on Star Sports, "Doesn’t matter if he (Kohli) scores a 40 or 70 because everybody has a role to play. There’s synergy in every player; regardless of the position he bats at, you are just going hell for leather. If that’s the mindset, then it’s going to be a lot easier for Kohli."

He added, "It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team doesn’t expect Kohli to score 70 or a 100 or finish the game. You just come and play your natural game, that’s more than enough."

So far, Kohli has amassed 3308 runs in 99 T20Is. Will he make a big score in the upcoming clash versus Pakistan? Only time will tell...

Asia Cup: Virat Kohli to become 2nd cricketer to complete unique ton in India's opener vs Pakistan

Virat Kohli's form remains a big topic of discussion. The former Indian captain was rested for India's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now make a return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the forthcoming Asia Cup, to kick off in August 27 in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made a bold claim. Kaneria feels a struggling Kohli will be able to move past his poor form and revive his career courtesy of the Asian championship, which will be played in the shortest format (for the second-time in tournament-history).

"The Asia Cup will change Virat Kohli's career. The tournament is crucial for him to prolong his career and I feel he will come good. However, many former cricketers have said that Kohli is just heavy baggage on the team if he doesn't score runs. So he needs to think carefully about how he can make a comeback. This is because there are other dynamic batters like Iyer, Samson and Gill waiting in the wings," Kaneria shared his views on his YouTube channel.

Virat Kohli and vice-captain KL Rahul have returned to the Indian team as the BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will get underway in the UAE from August 27.&nbsp;

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad sees the comeback of Kohli, who missed the entire West Indies tour due to rest, whereas opener Rahul has also returned after suffering a groin injury and being infected by Covid-19. Meanwhile, the defending champions have been dealt with a huge blow as their premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out.

In a tweet from the official handle of the BCCI, it wrote, "Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru."

Thus, India will go with three frontline seamers in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan with all-rounder Hardik Pandya being the fourth pacer. Among the main batters, Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul, Kohli, wicketkeeper-batters Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and Hardik will spearhead the department.

Hardik, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin are the main all-rounders. The spin department will be headed by Ashwin, Jaddu, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi whereas Hooda can also chip in with a few overs of spin. There are also three standby players such as Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel (who had a terrific tour of West Indies).

Virat Kohli, KL Rahul return in Jasprit Bumrah-less Team India squad for Asia Cup 2022

After India's successful white-ball tour of West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will now shift their focus towards the forthcoming Asia Cup, in UAE, which will be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (to kick off later this year in Australia).

While India are ticking a lot of boxes, they do have some issues to sort out while finalising their T20 WC squad. Along with problems of plenty, India also need Virat Kohli to return to form at the earliest. The former Indian skipper has looked out of sorts for long and even ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats. His century-drought also continues since 2019 whereas his similar sort of dismissals -- chasing the ball on the fourth or fifth-stump line -- have led to his criticism.

A lot has been said and written about Kohli's batting slot. Should India open with Kohli and Rohit or is the former best suited at his preferred slot, i.e. No. 3? Or, can he be demoted? Amid all this, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel suggested that Kohli should be promoted as an opener, to play freely and not as per the situation.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said ahead of India's squad selection for Asia Cup,&nbsp;"I would want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open. I want Kohli to open, so that he can just go out and unleash himself. He's taken a break, but we all know there's no shortage of ability in his batting style.

"As an opener, you start the game at 0-0. Whereas at No.3, you have to play according to the situation. Kohli can play the way he wants and can still play at a strike rate of 170, and if two wickets have fallen early, he can also play at 130," he stated.

"You want Kohli to play as freely as he can. There's no pressure on him and he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He's already scored 70 hundreds and has scored plenty of runs.

Where should Virat Kohli bat? Ex-Indian stumper shares his preferred slot for star batter ahead of Asia Cup

The cricketing fans are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The forthcoming mega event in Asia will be held in the shortest format of the game and will see India and Pakistan face each other at least twice and are most likely to also clash in the final.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee tournament, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif opined on the upcoming Indo-Pak clash and feels Babar Azam-led Men in Green are better placed than their arch-rivals Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. He also revealed India's flaws while speaking on his official YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’.

"Win or loss is different. But I think Pakistan's strategy is looking much better. There are not many changes in the Pakistan side, whether it's T20I, ODI or Test. When you look at India, they have had around 7 captains in the past year, which is quite inappropriate in present situation," Latif said.

“Kohli isn't there, Rohit and Rahul were injured. Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant came as captains, Shikhar Dhawan (ODI) also came as a captain. They would have some problem making their best team. It is no doubt that India have the best players but they can't make their best-16, and I think they would have problems even forming their best XI,” the ex-Pakistani&nbsp;stumper further asserted.

“Pakistan won because of India's mistakes last year, and I think this time, Pakistan will benefit from India's mistakes again,” added Latif.

There is a strong chance for India and Pakistan to face each other thrice as the two heavyweights are expected to meet in the tournament-finale. Even if that doesn't happen, the two Asian giants are set to lock horns in their respective T20 World Cup openers, at MCG, Melbourne.

Asia Cup: Ex-Pakistan captain feels Babar Azam & Co. better placed than India, points out Men in Blue's flaws

United Arab Emirates will replace Sri Lanka as the venue for the Asia Cup, starting next month, due to the ongoing political and economic crisis in the island nation, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said. Sri Lanka will, however, remain hosts for the nine-team tournament, which will be played between Aug. 27-Sept&nbsp;11 and serve as preparation for the Asian sides in the leadup to the Twenty20 World Cup later this year.

The country of 22 million people has been crippled by an economic crisis, with shortages of fuel, food and other necessities. The Sri Lankan parliament on Wednesday approved the extension of a state of emergency for a month. Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka`s cricket board (SLC) said they "fully stand by the ACC`s decision" to relocate the tournament.

'Fantastic option': Former Pakistan cricketer backs young Indian player for T20 WC & Asia Cup squads

The Asia Cup is "likely" to be moved out of Sri Lanka in the wake of political unrest in the island nation, SLC secretary Mohan de Silva said on Sunday, adding that the tournament could be played in the UAE. Sri Lanka, which has been battling an economic crisis, has witnessed widespread protests against the government for weeks.

However, the situation worsened with president Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleeing the country on a military jet. "The Asia Cup is very likely that it will be held in the UAE," Sri Lanka Cricket secretary de Silva told PTI when asked about a possible change in the venue of the T20 tournament.

The dates for the six-team tournament are expected to remain the same as scheduled earlier from August 26 to September 11. A qualifier will also take place before the main event with Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait and UAE battling out for the one qualification spot.

Asia Cup 2022 likely to be shifted from Sri Lanka to UAE, says SLC secretary Mohan de Silva

All eyes are on the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022. The upcoming mega event will be held in Sri Lanka despite the political and economical unrest in the country. This will be the second time that the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format, as a preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ahead of the official schedule is released, which is expected to be out very soon, many reports have suggested that India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli remains the talk of the cricketing fraternity despite his dismal run in IPL 2022. So far, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain has amassed only&nbsp;236 runs at an average of&nbsp;19.67 and a poor strike rate of&nbsp;113.46 with a solitary fifty under his belt.

While a lot has been said and written about Kohli and how he should take a break in order to rediscover his form and comeback motivated as ever for Team India, the 33-year-old recently opened up on the prospect of taking a breather from cricket and spoke about his goals for the national side.

"I know how motivated I will be when the scores start coming," Kohli told Star Sports. "I want to win India the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup; that's the motivation."

"I have to move forward maintaining a balance, get some rest, some rejuvenation, once I'm in the mindset then there's no looking back and... it's great fun. My main aim is to help India win the Asia Cup and the World Cup and for that I am ready to do anything for the team," he told former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh in a chat for Star Sports.

"It is definitely a thing that one needs to consider because you don't want to do something which you are not a part of 100% and I have always believed in that in my life. So, to take a break and when to take a break is obviously something that I need to take a call on, but it is only a healthy decision for anyone to take some time off and just rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically.

"Not so much physically because physical fitness you keep up with through the course of playing cricket all the time, but it is a mental kind of reset that you need, and you want to be excited for what you are doing. You don't want to feel like you have been forcing yourself into any situation," Kohli added.

With India's T20I squad to be announced for the forthcoming South Africa series, from June 09, it seems Kohli will get a break and will likely return to action for the fifth and final Test versus England, in early July.

I want to win India the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, says former skipper Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli's form remains a concern. During the IPL 2022 edition, he achieved an unwanted feat of going over 100 matches across formats without a century. While Kohli scored his first half-century for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their tenth outing this season, he only managed a 53-ball 58. Even in RCB's reverse fixture versus the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kohli returned with an unimpressive 33-ball 30.

As his struggle for runs continues, the whole of the Indian cricket fraternity is concerned by King Kohli's barren run. His last international ton came in late 2019 and at present, he is looking far from his usual best. Amid all this, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri had advised him to pull out of IPL 15 and take a much-needed break. Now, former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has also joined the bandwagon and asked Kohli to take a significant rest to return completely fresh before the Asia Cup.

Further, MSK also called for KL Rahul to be tried at No. 4 in T20Is with Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma opening the innings.

"These three are indispensable if fit. There is no way that you can leave anyone of them for the World T20. But yes, if I look at numbers, I might just try someone like Shikhar Dhawan at the opening slot and check Rahul out at No.4. He has a T20 hundred in Manchester some years back in middle-order, so why not. But yes, I want Virat to take a significant break and before the Asia Cup, he should be fresh, up and running," Prasad told PTI.

It remains to be seen if Kohli takes a break in the near future. At present, it seems highly unlikely given that Faf du Plessis-led RCB haven't cemented a place in the playoffs in this year's IPL season. Given that India will play the T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia later this year, Kohli's form is extremely critical to the Men in Blue's chances in the showpiece event.

An outstanding show by the bowlers followed by an unbeaten half-century from opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi led India to an easy nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka in a rain-hit final of U19 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium here on Friday. The win also meant that India clinched the U19 Asia Cup trophy for the eighth time out of nine editions.

After restricting Sri Lanka to 106/9 in 38 overs, India had to chase 102 in the same allotted overs. Sri Lanka struck an early blow as Harnoor Singh was trapped plumb lbw by Yasiru Rodrigo for just five. But his partner Raghuvanshi, who was hit early on the helmet, was unfazed in shot selection. He got his first boundary of the match with a lovely backfoot punch and followed it with a pull over square leg.

His partner Shaik Rasheed kept the scoreboard ticking by rotating the strike and hitting a boundary. The duo's efforts meant that they brought up the half-century of their stand for the second wicket. After that, Raghuvanshi brought out his stroke-play, smashing boundaries while using his feet, and found gaps with ease.

Raghuvanshi completed his impressive fifty in 64 balls with a single through on-side. The Indian batters were also aided by the fact that the Sri Lanka bowling attack was too wide or gave too much room to effortlessly play their shots. It was fitting that Raghuvanshi hit the winning runs, a late squeeze on a Matheesha Pathirana yorker through the third man to help India maintain a clean slate in the finals of the tournament.

Earlier, India`s bowling attack, with immaculate line and length and discipline, did exceedingly well to keep Sri Lanka to just 106/9. The fantastic show with the ball was started by pacers Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravi Kumar, and Raj Bawa. The trio pushed Sri Lanka on backfoot in the first ten overs, giving very little breathing space for the batters.

After Kumar and Bawa took a wicket apiece, off-spinner Kaushal Tambe increased Sri Lanka's problems by picking up two wickets. Left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/11 in eight overs.

The toss went in Sri Lanka's favour, but the innings didn't go their way on a lush green pitch. Left-arm pacer Kumar provided the first breakthrough as Chamindu Wickramasinghe departed for three, giving a simple catch to Bawa at third man while going for a hoick over mid-wicket. Kumar could have got his second wicket if not for slip fielder dropping a tough chance apart from an early run-out chance missed.

Kumar and Bawa kept things tight as Sri Lanka crawled to 15/1, without scoring a boundary. Bawa got his first wicket as Shevon Daniel nicked behind to keeper Aaradhya Yadav for six. Sadisha Rajapaksa and Anjala Bandara struck a boundary each but off-spinner Tambe trapped the latter lbw.

Tambe returned to clean bowl Pawan Pathiraja for four. Rajapaksa, who had entered the double figures, holed out to Rasheed off left-arm spinner Ostwal. Ostwal returned in the 27th over to take out Dunith Wellalage (caught by Bawa at mid-wicket) and Ranuda Somarathne (trapped lbw). Sri Lanka laboured to reach 74/7 in 33 overs before rain halted play.

It took almost two and a half hours for the rain to relent before Sri Lanka could bat for five more overs to finish their innings. After the match re-started, a brilliant direct hit from Rasheed caught Raveen de Silva short of the crease. Rodrigo and Pathirana hit a couple of boundaries before the latter pulled straight to a diving Raghuvanshi at deep backward square leg to give Hangargekar a wicket on the last ball of the innings, ending Sri Lanka`s misery with the bat.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 106/9 in 38 overs (Yasiru Rodrigo 19 not out, Raveen de Silva 15; Vicky Ostwal 3/11, Kaushal Tambe 2/23) lost to India 104/1 in 21.3 overs (Angkrish Raghuvanshi 56 not out, Shaik Rasheed 31 not out; Yasiru Rodrigo 1/12)
