Virat Kohli has found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late as he trudges through one of the roughest patches of his career in terms of his on-pitch performance.

However, he didn't let his shortcomings blind him from the series of exemplary performances that Pakistan's Babar Azam has been recording on the trot.

In addition to recognising his prowess with the bat, Kohli went as far as to hail Azam as the best batsman in the world across all formats of cricket. He offered fans his take on his contemporary during a recent interaction with the media.

"Babar Azam is probably the top batsman right now across formats. I’ve enjoyed watching him bat. The first talk with Babar Azam was after the 2019 WC, we sat down & talked a lot, and he had lots of respect, that hasn’t changed even after doing so well in world cricket – he is so down to earth character, he will go long way as a player," Kohli asserted.

It is interesting to note that the respect and admiration that Kohli has for Azam is not one-sided. In a great show of concern, Azam had come out to support the Indian batting ace.

The Shaheens were recently dealt a major blow after another one of their top bowling prospects was ruled out of active contention after suffering an injury ahead of the forthcoming Asia Cup. In addition to losing their star pacer Shaheen Afridi to an injury, the Pakistan cricket team recently lost Mohammad Wasim Junior.

The Men in Green have suffered major setbacks even before they could set off on their Asia Cup campaign. Wasim, who previously pulled out of a training session, complaining of back pain, was effectively ruled out by the team's medical staff.

"The bowler was assessed by medical team staff, and MRI scan in Dubai confirmed the diagnosis. The findings were discussed with the PCB Medical Advisory Committee, while an independent review by a specialist physiotherapist was also sought.

"The medical team will closely monitor Wasim's rehabilitation and his return to competitive cricket will be reassessed before the England tour to Pakistan," said the statement that was released by the PCB.

In the aftermath of this unfortunate development, the selectors have called upon Hasan Ali to replace Wasim. One must note that, Ali's status in the tournament is still subject to review and approval from the Event Technical Committee.

While fans rue the loss of Wasim from their bowling order, it seems like his injury has come as a blessing in disguise for Ali, who was previously dropped from the team after the selectors deemed his performances inconsistent.

However, it seems like he has been granted an opportunity to redeem himself and make his way back into the good graces of the selectors. His future in the team and upcoming tournaments may very well depend on the way he performs in the upcoming Asia Cup.

Pakistan’s injury woes continue as they lose yet another pacer ahead of 2022 Asia Cup

Virat Kohli is gearing up for his international comeback ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 edition, which gets underway on August 27. Ahead of Rohit Sharma-led India's tournament-opener versus Pakistan, in Dubai, on Sunday (August 28), Kohli shared a heartfelt post for MS Dhoni which has now gone viral. The strong bond between Dhoni and Kohli is known to the cricketing fraternity and the 33-year-old won hearts with his post recalling his time playing under the former Indian captain.

In early 2012, Kohli was appointed the then Indian captain Dhoni's deputy ahead of the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. The right-hander came to his own following the 2011 ODI World Cup and his consistency got rewarded as he was named the vice-captain amid the presence of senior players such as Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, etc. Kohli held the post till the end of Dhoni's white-ball captaincy tenure whereas he succeeded him in Tests in 2015. Thus, the superstar cricketer shared a heartfelt post for Dhoni, recalling the time when he served as the Jharkhand-born cricketer's deputy and further stated that he will always cherish the several match-winning partnerships he shared with the former keeper-batter.

On late Thursday evening, Kohli tweeted, "Being this man’s trusted deputy was the most enjoyable and exciting period in my career. Our partnerships would always be special to me forever. 7+18."

At present, Kohli is sweating hard to gear up for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition. Being out of form and struggling to end his international-century drought since late 2019, the former Indian skipper will look to make the most of the opportunities in the upcoming Asian championship. Under Rohit, India are placed in Pool A with Pakistan and Hong Kong. The group stage will be followed by the Super 4 round before the summit clash takes place on September 11.

Will defending champions India win the Asia Cup title for the third time in a row? Only time will tell...

'Our partnerships would...' - Virat Kohli's heartfelt post for MS Dhoni goes viral ahead of Asia Cup

Former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq recently commented on Ravichandran Ashwin's prowess in the white-ball format of cricket. Praising his versatility, Mushtaq admitted Ashwin should have returned to active contention in the Indian cricket team long ago.

India enjoyed a great variety of talent when it came to picking their playing squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. While a number of players have newly been selected to represent the country, there are some others who have returned to the fold after a significant amount of time.

One among those making their return to active contention is Ravichandran Ashwin, whose inclusion has come as a breath of fresh air for many. Ashwin has been in and out of the squad after consistently recording rather impressive performances.

He most recently featured among the Men in Blue during their 2021 T20 World Cup run, which was not something that was worth writing home about. Discussing his stint in international cricket, which has admittedly been something of a roller-coaster ride, the former Pakistani off-spinner slammed Indian selectors for ignoring Ashwin's talent and wasting his time by excluding him from the white-ball setup.

‘One of the greats’- Former Pakistan cricketer hails Ravichandran Ashwin as 'world-class'

India and Pakistan will resume their cricketing rivalry when they lock horns in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE. The tournament kicks off on August 27 with the two Asian giants meeting each other on August 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Rohit Sharma-led India will look to settle scores versus the Men in Green who had defeated them by ten wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan had won their first-ever World Cup clash versus the then Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue, hence, they will be in good stead before taking on their arch-rivals. However, Rohit's India have revamped in style and won as many as 19 games out of 24 encounters following the shambolic performance versus Pakistan. Thus, it is set to be an exciting battle when India and Pakistan resume their rivalry on the 22-yard cricket strip. Ahead of the much-awaited battle, former Pakistan batting great Younis Khan explained why Rohit has an edge over Pakistan skipper Babar when it comes to leadership skills.

"We all know how crucial Rohit and Babar are when it comes to scoring big runs for their teams and the importance they carry in terms of putting up performances of significance. But, captaincy-wise, Rohit has an edge over Babar because he has had a longer period as a senior Team India member and played under good captains as well. So that experience bodes well for Rohit," Younis told Telegraph India.

Given Rohit's experience, he certainly has an edge over Babar. But, the 27-year-old Pakistani has done well as a leader so far. Under him, Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 WC and are ranked third in ICC T20I Rankings.

It was under Rohit when India won the 2018 Asia Cup, in the UAE. Back then, the tournament was played in the 50-over format. However, this time around, it will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Rohit & Co. will be desperate to settle scores with Pakistan and and also clinch the Asia Cup -- for the third time in a row -- before heading into the T20 WC in Australia, from October-November.

He listened to me and agreed to my request of getting the selfie clicked," she told PakTV.

'It's just another opposition' - Rohit Sharma downplays hype around India-Pakistan face-off in Asia Cup

Pakistan were dealt a huge blow when Shaheen Afridi injured himself during the first Test versus Sri Lanka last month. The left-arm pacer suffered a knee injury and, hence, has been ruled out of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, set to get underway on August 27 in the UAE.

However, an injured Shaheen has travelled to the UAE for the Asian championship with the Babar Azam-led squad. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson opened up in this regard and revealed the reason behind the 22-year-old's presence in the Pakistan squad.

"Babar wanted him to stay with the team. Management wants to closely monitor his injury rehab. He will be staying in Dubai itself with the team," PCB spokesperson confirmed to the local media in Pakistan.

Why has injured Shaheen Afridi travelled to UAE with Pak team for Asia Cup? PCB spokesperson reveals

The stage is set for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, set to get underway in the UAE on August 27. India and Pakistan -- two of the strongest teams in the competition -- will start as favourites and many await the Indo-Pak clash, which will take place on August 28 (Sunday) in Dubai.

Ahead of the commencement of the Asian championship, many former cricketers and experts of the game have made their predictions as to which team will walk away with the mega title. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris feels Rohit Sharma-led India -- the defending champions and seven-time winners -- have the ability to squash everybody, including Pakistan.

Speaking on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’, Styris pointed out, "Well, as we know, India has a very strong T20 league as well. I think it's the ability to come together and play the style and brand of cricket that best suits your players. I thought that was the big trick that India missed at the last T20 World Cup as it took them about two games. The two losses they had before they just started to go after the opposition, impose themselves with the talent and skill that they've got. I want to see India do that in this Asia Cup. I want them to impose themselves on the other teams and l they've got the ability to do that, I think they've got the ability to squash everybody, including Pakistan, in this Asia Cup."

Few words of caution

However, the New Zealander also mentioned that the Men in Blue shouldn't proceed into the marquee tournament with a middling attitude and feels that's where Babar Azam-led Pakistan have figured things out in a better way. "But if they're going to go into this with this middling attitude of how they want to play the game, then I don't think it's going to happen. I don't think that's going to be a defining moment or factor in this match,” Styris added.

Ahead of the tournament, all eyes are on the India-Pakistan clash, which will be held on the second day, i.e. on August 28 at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The forthcoming Indo-Pak clash will be the first-ever meeting between the two Asian giants post the 2021 T20 World Cup, where Babar Azam & Co. thrashed India by ten wickets at the same venue in Dubai. While Babar-led Men in Green will hope for a similar such script in the making this time around as well, Rohit Sharma's Team India will aim for redemption. ALSO READ | Asia Cup 2022: EXPLAINED! Team India will enter the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition as favourites. Given their red-hot form, India will be eyeing the title in the upcoming tournament which will be held in the UAE, where the last year's T20 World Cup was held.

Despite Men in Blue not succeeding in conditions on offer in the UAE during T20 WC, Rohit Sharma-led India have a strong squad this time around -- being better balanced and more aggressive with the bat -- to go the distance in the tournament. Ahead of the Asia Cup, which kicks off on August 27, former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar pointed out the 'small challenges' for skipper Rohit.

During an interaction on the Star Sports show 'Follow the Blues', former Indian cricketer Bangar revealed, "Rohit Sharma's biggest challenge in this Asia Cup I feel is some of the players who have not played regularly for the Indian team because of different-different reasons - it could be fitness or like Virat Kohli took a break, he is also making a comeback. KL Rahul had gotten injured."

Further, Bangar highlighted that defending champions India will miss Jasprit Bumrah's services in the Asian championship. "Jasprit Bumrah is also not playing this tournament. So how he manages the bowling in Jasprit Bumrah's absence because Jasprit Bumrah is an extremely important element in India's bowling. So I feel these will be the small challenges in front of Rohit Sharma," he added.

Rohit-led India are strong title contenders for the Asia Cup. However, there are some issues as senior pros such as Virat and Rahul are returning at the highest level after some time. Moreover, Bumrah's absence -- due to a back injury -- can dent India's chances. In addition, head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive, hence, Rohit might miss operating with him if the former captain doesn't travel to the UAE.

All eyes are on Virat Kohli as the 33-year-old will return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition in the UAE. India open their campaign against arch rivals Pakistan in Dubai, with an aim to settle scores with the Babar Azam-led Men in Green following their ten-wicket defeat in the last face-off during the 2021 T20 World Cup.

For India to do well, they will need Kohli to return to form at the earliest. The former Indian captain has been away from action since the end of the England tour, where he failed to score even a half-century across formats.

Kohli returned with only 76 runs in the England tour, which included the one-off Test, two ODIs and T20Is each. Recently, the superstar cricketer opened up on his batting struggles in England and admitted that he wasn't batting well (where he was continuously falling to deliveries pitched on the fourth/fifth-stump line).

"What happened in England was a pattern, so something that I could work on and something that I had to kind of overcome," Kohli revealed on the Star Sports show 'Game Plan'. "Right now, as you rightly mentioned, there is nothing that you can point out saying that the problem is happening here."

"So, that for me, is actually an easier thing to process because I know that I'm batting well and at times, when I start feeling that rhythm back, then I know that I'm batting well. So, that for me is not an issue, which wasn't the case in England; I didn't feel like I was batting well at all. So, I had to work hard on one thing that could be exposed again and again which I overcame; right now this is not the case," he added.

1) Virat Kohli rallies team India to a glorious win- 2012

The Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur witnessed one of the most impressive performances from Kohli during the 2012 Asia Cup. Kohli, with his performance against Pakistan, proved why he was well on track to earning the title of the best batsman in the world.

Shortly after Gautam Gambhir tumbled out of the batting order in the first over, Kohli put out an absolutely stunning knock of 183 in just 148 balls to effectively etch his name in Asia Cup folklore as he helped India complete a daunting chase of 330.

Building on a sublime performance from Kohli, the Men in Blue went on to record a stunning six-wicket win with 13 balls to spare. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar bolstered the team's charge by putting out absolutely vital half-centuries.

2) Harbhajan Singh stuns Pakistani bowlers- 2010

While Harbhajan Singh's claim to fame was his bowling prowess, he put on an absolutely jaw-dropping performance against Pakistan at Dambulla, Sri Lanka, way back in 2010 during a last-over affair.

Although the game is often remembered for the heated interaction between Singh and Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar, the former impressed fans with his versatility as he wrapped up the game in style, smacking Mohammed Amir over midwicket for the maximum to hand India a 3-wicket victory against their arch-nemeses.

In what was yet another final-over case which took place at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur back in 2014, Shahid Afridi managed to breathe new life into Pakistan's effort against India as he flipped the game on its head.

Top 3 most memorable India vs Pakistan matches in Asia Cup history

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi's absence from the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 is a huge blow to Pakistan's chances in the tournament. However, his absence can be a huge relief to the opposition top-order batters, who would be relieved at the prospect of not having to face one of the most dangerous new-ball operators in the world at present.

Afridi can be lethal with the new white ball in hand and has been among the most prolific wicket-takers in the powerplay as far as white ball cricket is concerned. He has also been one of Pakistan's most consistent performers across formats and has proved to be a game-changer in several big matches.

However, Pakistan are set to miss his services in the Asia Cup as he has been ruled out due to an injury in his right knee. He has been advised 3-6 weeks of rest by the PCB medical team and playing him in the Asia Cup would have threatened his chances to recover fully ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

Speaking about his absence, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris said the top order of every team should be high-fiving themselves as Afridi is a big miss for Pakistan. Lauding the Pakistan pacer, Styris said Afridi has all the attributes that one could seek in a good fast bowler.

"Every top order should be high-fiving themselves because he has every possible attribute that you could want in a fast bowler. He has height, he has the pace, he gets bounce, he has that ability to swing the ball, and he has the variation of being a left armer as well," Styris said during an interaction on Sports18.

"So, everything you would want from a fast bowler, he has it. So, I'm with you. I think that every top order in this competition, not just the Indian top order who are susceptible to the ball coming back, I think that they will be delighted that he isn't there and it gives them a greater chance of winning the tournament," he added.

22-year-old Afridi made his international debut for Pakistan in 2018 and has quickly gone on to establish his credentials as one of the best young pacers in the world at present. The southpaw had delivered a Man of the Match performance when Pakistan last met India at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

He wreaked havoc on the Indian top-order with the new ball to send back openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in quick succession before also bagging the prized wicket of Virat Kohli to finish with a three-wicket haul and set up Pakistan's 10-wicket win against India.

Also Read: 'We were bit timid at the top': Shastri explains why India's aggressive approach in T20Is is way forward Speaking about his absence, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris said the top order of every team should be high-fiving themselves as Afridi is a big miss for Pakistan. Also Read: EXPLAINED! How India might take on Pakistan thrice in Asia Cup 2022 He wreaked havoc on the Indian top-order with the new ball to send back openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in quick succession before also bagging the prized wicket of Virat Kohli to finish with a three-wicket haul and set up Pakistan's 10-wicket win against India. Pakistan are once again scheduled to open their Asia Cup campaign against India this year and will be hopeful of getting off to a winning start despite missing the services of their star pacer.

Every top order should be high-fiving themselves: Scott Styris on Shaheen Afridi missing Asia Cup 2022

The Asia Cup 2022 edition is about to kick off on August 27 (Saturday). Undoubtedly, the hype regarding the forthcoming tournament is very high given that two Asian giants India and Pakistan are set to lock horns with each other in their respective tournament-openers on August 28, at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

The rivalry between the two senior teams will resume once again, following their last face-off in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Interestingly, the last clash between both sides also took place at the same venue, in Dubai, where Babar Azam & Co. demolished India by ten wickets to break their World Cup jinx versus their neighbouring country. Given the Asia Cup is being held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November, Rohit Sharma-led India and the Men in Green will leave no stone unturned to emerge on top in the Asian championship.

While India and Pakistan are placed in the same group (Pool A), they will meet on August 28. However, there's a catch. For the unversed, cricket fans are in for a treat as the two heavyweights are likely to meet each other as many as three times overall in the 2022 edition.

As India and Pakistan are expected to run past the other qualifying team -- who will join them in Pool A -- and enter the Super 4, they are likely to be pitted against each other on September 4 (Sunday). As Rohit-led Men in Blue and Pakistan are two of the strongest teams and, thus, they are expected to top the Super 4 and face-off in the tournament finale as well, i.e. on September 11.

Having said that, one cannot write off competitive and ever-improving teams such as Afghanistan, Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh and Dasun Shanaka's Sri Lanka. If a lot of upsets take place, the finalists can appear to be different than the ones many expect at this point.

Asia Cup 2022: EXPLAINED! How India might take on Pakistan thrice in mega event

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has replaced the injured Shaheen Shah Afridi for the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The 22-year-old Hasnain returned to cricket in June after remodelling his bowling action. He was suspended in February after being called by umpires during the BBL.

The right-arm fast bowler has taken 17 wickets in 18 T20s and played his last T20 against the West Indies at Karachi in December 2021.

Hasnain is representing the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred competition in England and will join the Pakistan team in the UAE.

During the Hundred competition, Australia's Marcus Stoinis mimicked Hasnain's bowling action with a throwing motion when he was walking back to the dugout after being caught by the fast bowler's short-pitched delivery.

Virat Kohli's ongoing lean patch with the willow is a huge concern for the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year. Kohli has been backed constantly by the Indian team management but has failed to notch up big knocks consistently. He had a disastrous campaign during India's recently-concluded tour of England and has not returned to action since.

Kohli had opted for a break following the conclusion of the England tour and went on to miss India's tour of the West Indies and Zimbabwe. The senior batter is all set to make his comeback for the Indian team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway in UAE on August 28.

There has been a raging debate over Kohli's woeful form with several former cricketers and experts also calling for the superstar batter to be dropped from India's T20I side ahead of the T20 World Cup this year. However, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has backed Kohli to bounce back soon.

Pathan explained why Asia Cup 2022 will be an important tournament for Kohli stating that the Indian batter cannot head into the World Cup looking to still find his form. Pathan believes returning to top form in Asia Cup will be a huge boost for Kohli and the Indian team looking forward to the T20 World Cup.

You can't find form in the World Cup: Irfan Pathan explains why Asia Cup will be important for Virat Kohli

Babar Azam will enter the forthcoming Asia Cup as the No. 1 batter in the ICC T20I rankings. He has been in sensational form in the ongoing calendar year and even holds the numero uno position in ODI rankings. Babar is set to be pitted against one of his greatest rivals Virat Kohli when India and Pakistan face each other in the 2022 Asia Cup edition, in the UAE.

Kohli, on the other hand, is entering the Asian championship with all eyes on him. The 33-year-old had a woeful tour of England, without a single half-century across formats, and also had an ordinary run in IPL 2022, for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Kohli, with 70 international tons, last scored a century at the highest level in late 2019. Thus, he has his back against the wall.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram recently joined the best batsmen debate while talking about Babar and Kohli. Sharing his views at a press conference, the ex-swingking stated that Babar is on track to be one of the modern greats. "The comparisons are only natural. When we played people used to compare Inzamam, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Before that it was Sunil Gavaskar Javed Miandad, G Vishwanath and Zaheer Abbas. Babar has been very consistent, because he has got the right technique. He is very hungry and very fit. He is still a young captain but is learning very fast," Akram told Star Sports.

He added, "However, comparisons with Virat it is too early. Babar is on the right track to be where Virat Kohli is but to compare him with him at this stage is too early. But he is absolutely on the right track to be one of the modern greats."

It will be interesting to see who among Kohli and Babar will have the last laugh in the forthcoming India-Pakistan showdown at the Asia Cup, which will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam: Wasim Akram joins 'best batsman' debate ahead of India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash

Virat Kohli's form continues to be a topic of discussion in the cricketing fraternity. The 33-year-old has been out of form for quite some time and hasn't been part of the action at the international level since India's tour of England, where he returned without a single half-century across formats. Thus, all eyes are on the former Indian skipper on how he returns to his best in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, to be held in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup, former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram has come out in support of under-fire Kohli. He labelled him as one of the greatest of all time and has backed him to overcome his rut in the upcoming Asian championship.

"Let me start off with from last year or so, whatever I have been seeing on social media, from Indian fans, against Virat Kohli... most of them, fans or press, or whoever they may be, having a go at him unnecessarily. He is only 33, he is one of the greatest of all time," Akram said during a press conference organised by Star Sports.

"He is extraordinary. He is averaging 50-plus in all formats, he is still fit as a fiddle, he is still one of the best fielders in the Indian squad and like they say, form is temporary, class is forever. That is Virat Kohli. I am sure he will come back and score runs. I hope he doesn't come back against Pakistan, but he will make a comeback," Akram added.

Kohli will like to come to his best in India's Asia Cup opener, where they face Babar Azam-led Pakistan in Dubai. This will be the first time the two Asian giants will lock horns against each other following last year's T20 World Cup face-off, where India were hammered by ten wickets. Virat Kohli one of the greatest of all time, they are having a go at him unnecessarily: Wasim Akram

A lot of former and active cricketers continue to opine on Virat Kohli. Kohli remains the topic of discussion despite last playing an international game on July 17. After India's tour of England, the 33-year-old star Indian batter had been given rest for the national side's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now return in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

Talking about Kohli's form, the right-hander's last international century came in the pre-Covid era. He had a forgettable 2020 tour of New Zealand before the Covid-19 pandemic struck and shocked the whole world. Following that, he scored a lot of half-centuries but a century continues to evade him. Even in India's 2022 tour of England, Kohli ended without a single half-century across formats whereas he had an ordinary run in IPL 2022, for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Many expect Kohli to start afresh in the forthcoming Asia Cup and regain his form before the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia, in October-November. Before the tournament, his good friend and former RCB teammate AB de Villiers lavished praise on him. "Virat [Kohli] is one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Virat remains world-class. Virat and I remain in regular contact. We are friends, and he certainly does not need me to tell him the importance of working hard during a bad patch," said De Villers in interaction with NDTV.

Ahead of the upcoming tournament, which will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup, India was dealt with a massive blow with pacer Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out due to a back injury.

With no Bumrah, the onus will fall upon experienced campaigner Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The other pace options for India are Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Harshal Patel is also out of action due to injury. However, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar feels Bumrah won't be missed that in the death overs but his presence will be felt in the middle overs.

"Arshdeep is a good option who bowls good yorkers, has a lot of control and an excellent temperament to bowl in the death overs. So he (Bumrah) will not be missed that much in the death overs but the Indian team will definitely feel his absence in the middle overs," said Bangar on Star Sports show 'Follow the Blues'.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar will have to take greater responsibility and that means bowling two overs at the start and then again bowling two overs in the last four overs, which is his strength. I feel the one over where the team uses Bumrah in the middle overs, there his absence will definitely be felt,” added Bangar.

Asia Cup: Former Indian batting coach explains why Jasprit Bumrah won't be missed much by Team India

A look at winners of last eight editions of Asia Cup

Pakistan have been handed a huge blow ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 as premier pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday (August 20) confirmed that Afridi will also miss the seven-match T20I series against England next month after sustaining a knee injury.

Afridi injured his right knee while playing in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month. He is part of Pakistan's ongoing tour of the Netherlands but has not played for the team. The PCB said Afridi has been advised "four-six weeks rest" by the medical team.

Afridi's absence is a huge blow to Pakistan's chances at the Asia Cup 2022. The Babar Azam-led side will start the tournament as favourites alongside India but with Afridi not spearheading their pace attack, the Men in Green will have to bring out their 'A' game in the competition to go the distance.

Afridi was the wrecker-in-chief for Pakistan when Babar Azam & Co. thrashed India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. Afridi ran through India's top-order dismissing Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul cheaply in quick succession to turn the match in Pakistan's favour.

His absence will be felt when Pakistan open their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against India in Dubai on August 28. Afridi has been one of the most consistent performers for Pakistan across formats along with captain Babar Azam in the last few years and remains a vital cog in the team.

In his absence, the likes of Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani and Usman Qadir will be expected to stand up and deliver with the ball when Pakistan lock horns with India in their Asia Cup 2022 opener in Dubai. Pakistan will then take on the sixth qualifier in their second encounter on September 02.

Huge blow for Pakistan as Shaheen Shah Afridi ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury

Rohit Sharma is all set to face his next big test as Team India captain in the Asia Cup 2022 starting from August 27-September 11. The Hitman has an extraordinary record as T20I captain, winning 29 of the 35 matches he`s been in charge.

Since being handed the captain`s role, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have dominated teams across the T20I format and gained many plaudits for their performances.

With the countdown for the Asia Cup 2022 and the Greatest Rivalry between India and Pakistan on August 28 underway, the stakes will be higher than ever for the Hitman and the team to become the Champions of Asia for the eighth time.

Speaking on Star Sports show `Follow The Blues`, Team India captain Rohit Sharma detailed his captaincy mantra and how he and the squad handle pressure before marquee tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2022, "For me as a captain, it is very important that we create an environment for the players where they don`t feel that it`s a very high-pressure environment.

"We try and create (an environment) for the guys to come out in this team and try to have fun and enjoy each other`s company. Because I strongly feel that it`s important not to allow the pressure to creep in too much. When you`re playing, obviously, there will be pressure because when you are holding the ball in your hand, there is pressure on you as a bowler.

"When you`re batting in the middle, there is pressure, and that is what you have to handle on your own. The captain or coach or anyone, no one can do anything about it, but yourself. So, I think those aspects - Of course, it is your responsibility, but there are so many other factors that come into play and I feel I need to take care of it."

Rohit further spoke about his role as captain to build a rapport with every individual in the team and assist every individual to improve their performances, especially while going through rough patches.

He said, "When you know certain players are going through tough times, we try to give them a clear understanding of what`s happening. Making him understand what we expect from him, his role in this team, and all those kinds of things. So, I don`t go with any particular mantra when I play the game.

"Obviously, for me it`s just to quickly adapt to certain individuals and then understand what they need, what are their strong points, where they are weak, try and you know give them feedback and work with them; be very specific in what the team is expecting from that individual.

"That is where the individual can blossom because when we give them the clarity of what the team is expecting from you, I think he will be able to work towards that direction and he can work on his game in many ways and then improve his game as well. So, I think those are the things that I always keep in mind."

Rohit Sharma believes creating a no-pressure environment is key ahead of Asia Cup clash against Pakistan

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma said the team's approach in T20 cricket has changed from the time they last locked horns with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. India had lost against their arch-rivals at the showpiece event to suffer their first defeat against the Men in Green in a World Cup encounter.

India had never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan before the meeting between the two sides in the UAE last year. India had won all 12 encounters between the two teams in ODI and T20 World Cups. However, Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak with an emphatic ten-wicket win in Dubai last year.

Pakistan produced an excellent effort with the ball to restrict India to a moderate total of 151 runs before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan combined to chase down the target with ten wickets to spare. The duo slammed half-centuries apiece to take Pakistan home comfortably and secure the country's first win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup game.

Ahead of the meeting between the two sides in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in his team's chances citing the change in their approach.

"Asia Cup is happening after a long time, but we played Pakistan last year in Dubai, where obviously the result did not go our way. But the Asia Cup is different now. The team is playing differently and has prepared differently, so a lot of things have changed from then," said Rohit during a promotional event.

Much has changed for India since their defeat against Pakistan last year. India had failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 following which Virat Kohli stepped down as captain to hand over reign to Rohit. Former head coach Ravi Shastri has also been replaced by the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm.

Under Rohit's captaincy, India have been phenomenal so far in T20Is and are yet to lose a T20I series having won seven on the trot. The team has also adapted an agressive approach in their batting while the bowling line-up has also undergone some notable changes.

Explaining his strategy for the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit said India won't focus on a single opposition but will be aiming to go the distance as a team. Rohit had led India to a memorable triumph during the last edition of the tournament in 2018 and will be hoping to repeat the feat this year.

"My thought has always been that we will not focus on the opponent, but we will continue to play our game. We played against West Indies, England and in both cases, we did not think about who our opposition was, but we focused on things that we had to do as a team and what we had to achieve," said Rohit.

"Similarly, in the Asia Cup, our focus will be on what to achieve as a team and not think about who we are facing - be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka," he added.

"But for us, we need to assess the conditions, keep in mind the fact that we will be playing in 40-plus degrees. We need to assess all those factors and prepare accordingly," he added.

India playing differently since the last time we played against Pakistan: Rohit Sharma ahead of Asia Cup clash

All eyes of the cricketing fraternity is now on the India-Pakistan 2022 Asia Cup clash, which will be held on August 28 in the UAE. Both sides will be meeting each other for the first time since last year's T20 World Cup face-off, where Babar Azam & Co. thrashed India by ten wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

For the unversed, the match will be held at the same venue. India will look to avenge their T20 WC loss versus the Men in Green and will also be bolstered by the return of former skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli wasn't part of India's white-ball tour of West Indies, due to rest, and had an ordinary IPL 2022 campaign followed by a below-par tour of England, where he ended without a single half-century across formats. Hence, Kohli will make heads turn once he walks out on the 22-yard cricket strip versus the Asian giants.

Ahead of the India-Pakistan face-off, Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma shared his 'slight concern' for his pupil. "There is a slight concern that he has not played too many T20 matches. But I am not at all worried because he is preparing very well. He is extremely positive and is coming back refreshed. So it is not a matter of too much concern," Sharma told India News.

Rajkumar also sounded optimistic of Kohli being able to play as per India's new and aggressive batting approach. In this regard, he opined, "He is a big player, he knows how he has to score runs, and at which strike rate he has to bat. The Indian team's template has definitely changed, but everyone has seen Virat's adaptability, he adapts according to the team's requirements and will do so going forward as well."

India will enter the forthcoming Asian championship as the defending champions. They have won the last two editions, including the one held in the shortest format -- for the first time in the tournament history -- in 2016.

Virat Kohli's childhood coach shares 'slight concern' for his pupil ahead of Pakistan clash in Asia Cup

The rivalry between India and Pakistan has transcended borders and is popularly hailed as one of, if not the most, heated and storied contests in international cricket. Therefore, it is only natural for fans to jump at the opportunity to watch the two legendary teams lock horns on the cricket pitch.

The demand for these passes was such that they sold out in mere minutes. The overwhelming desire for the tickets resulted in a myriad of fans queueing up for hours in vain as they were sold out shortly thereafter, forcing those fans to walk away empty-handed.

But fret not, it seems like the organisers have heard the fans' prayers, offering those vying to acquire tickets a second lease on life. The high demand for tickets prompted the organisers to present a fresh batch of passes, which went on sale at 10 am on Wednesday, August 17th. However, they have moved to add a new condition to the fresh batch of tickets.

Shortly after releasing a fresh batch of tickets for the highly anticipated match, Platinum List, the ticketing partner for the tournament released a statement, declaring a policy change with regards to the sale of India vs. Pakistan tickets, "Please note that according to the organisers, India-Pakistan tickets will now be available only in packages with other matches."

High demand for India-Pakistan Asia Cup tickets prompts increase in availability of passes and a policy change

The cricketing fraternity is eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Both India and Pakistan are placed in the same group, and await another team from the qualifiers, as the two Asian giants will lock horns on August 28 before two more possible face-offs, in the Super Four round and the finale.

Ahead of the showpiece event, which will be held after 2018, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt shared his take on whether Rohit Sharma-led India will start as favourites for the Asian championship. The Men in Blue won the last two editions. India had won the 2016 edition, played in the T20I format, and also clinched the 2018 championship which was held in the 50-over format. This time around, the competition will again be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (from October-November in Australia).

Answering a question on his YouTube channel about whether India start as a favourite, Butt stated, "They definitely can." He jokingly added, "Do they lack vitamins?”

“Any of the competing teams can win. Realistically, India have been playing really well. They have a big pool of players, and most of the guys have gained international experience. That’s why people are terming them favorites," Butt further asserted.

“There is Pakistan. Everybody knows that, on their day, they can beat anybody. T20 cricket is such a format where one good partnership can decide the fate of the game. It all depends on the day. Afghanistan are also a dark horse. Bangladesh, sometimes, plays very good cricket, but on other days they are very bad," the ex-Pakistani opener added.

Talking about India's chances, they comprehensively won bilateral series versus New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka before drawing a five-match T20I series versus South Africa -- all in home conditions -- beating England and West Indies in their own backyards since the 2021 T20 World Cup. Thus, they will certainly start as favourites for Asia Cup.

Is Team India favourites for Asia Cup 2022? Former Pakistan captain shares his take

India are all set to lock horns with Pakistan in a marque clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway later this month. India have dominated their arch-rivals over the years in the premier competition and will be aiming to continue their stellar run against the Men in Green when they meet in Dubai on August 28.

The last meeting between the arch-rivals saw Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrash India by ten wickets at the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE to bring an end to their 29-year-long wait for their first win in a World Cup encounter against the Men in Blue. Pakistan had lost 12 matches against India in ODI and T20 World Cups before registering their maiden win last year.

Ahead of the high-profile Asia Cup clash between the two cricketing giants, former Pakistan pacer Aaqb Javed has explained why Rohit Sharma & Co. will be favourites to win against the Men in Green. Analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams, Javed said India will hold an edge over Pakistan due to their experienced batting line-up.

“The difference between the two teams lies in their batting. India's batting is still more experienced. If a batter like Rohit Sharma clicks, he can single-handedly win the match for India. Similarly with Fakhar Zaman," Javed said on Paktv.tv.

The former Pakistan pacer also pointed out how Babar & Co. still don't have a quality pace bowling all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, who can be the difference between the two teams in the blockbuster clash. Hardik has been in fine form with the bat and ball ever since making his comeback for India earlier this year.

"If he plays with control, he can win the match for Pakistan. But the middle-order line-up of India and Pakistan, that's the difference. Also their all-rounder, that makes a difference. Because Pakistan does not have a Hardik Pandya like all-rounder,” Javed explained.

India will be hoping to get off to a winning start and avenge their T20 World Cup 2021 defeat when they take on Pakistan in Dubai on August 28. India will be heading into the Asia Cup 2022 as defending champions having won the last edition of the tournament under Rohit's captaincy in 2018.
