New Delhi, India

India’s World Cup winner, Kapil Dev, revealed the mantra behind how top teams stand tall in ICC events, mainly the World Cups. With Rohit Sharma-led India Team side plying its trade in the ongoing 2024 T20 WC in the Americas, Kapil feels everyone has a role to play in the side, and though every team's tactics are centric around their star players, playing together will only benefit in the end.

“Why talk about only Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, or Kuldeep Yadav? Everybody has a role to play. Their job is to win the tournament,” Kapil said in a chat with PTI.

“To win a match, an odd person can come out, but to win a tournament everybody has to work together. If we are going to depend on Bumrah or Arshdeep, then you are going to lose it.

“Let’s talk about the team. That gives you a better perspective rather than the odd player. Yes, main player is there, and we can go around him. But everybody has to chip in to win the World Cup,” Kapil continued.

Talking about the Indian Team that is unbeaten in the tournament, with the semis clash against England looming, Kapil feels the current crop of cricketers are fittest, calling them hardworking and fantastic.

He even talked about ace players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kapil went an extra yard while mentioning Bumrah, saying he is 1000 times better than the India great.

“Bumrah is 1000 times better than me,” Kapil said. “These young boys are far better than us. We had more experience. They are better. They are very good. Outstanding. They are fitter. They are much more hardworking. They are fantastic.”

India’s bowling on top

Meanwhile, Bumrah has been India’s best bet thus far in the tournament. The right-arm seamer is on the top of his game, picking 11 wickets in six matches at an economy of nearly four.

Right from India’s first game against Ireland to their last Super 8 match against Australia, Bumrah has helped the Men in Blue reign supreme with the new ball and during death overs.

Alongside him, Kuldeep Yadav is another player flourishing through the ranks in this edition, with Rohit banking on his bowling unit to deliver throughout.
