Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony: What number will Indian contingent come at?
The Olympics 2024 opening ceremony will kick off the greatest sporting spectacle of the year in the French capital city of Paris on Saturday (July 26). For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will not get underway inside the stadium but instead on the river Seine, and the Indian contingent will be part of it. So, who will be the flag-bearers? How many athletes are participating, and at what number will the Indian contingent come out during the Parade of Nations? Let’s find out.
The Paris Olympics 2024 will be available for live streaming and telecast in India at 11:00 pmIST on July 26.
The traditional Parade of Nations will occur along the river Seine that flows through the heart of Paris. In a first-of-a-kind event, over 10,000 Olympic athletes will travel on around 100 boats, cruiseonthe river Seine and pass through some iconic destinations, including the Notre Dame, Pont des Arts, Pont Neuf and more.
The historic opening ceremony might last over three hours, beginning from the Austerlitz Bridge beside the Jardin des Plantes and ending at the Trocadéro, where the final shows get underway.

Having achieved their best-ever tally at the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 with seven medals, including a gold, the Indian Contingent is ready for another run at the Summer Games.
With 117athletes (including five reserves) competing in 69 medal events across 16 sports, the Indian contingent will have flag bearers in Badminton star, two-time medallist PV Sindhu and veteran Table Tennis player Sharath Kamal.
While Kamal is representing India in his record fifth Olympics, the Paris 2024 Summer Games will be Sindhu’s third after Rio and Tokyo. Also, the duo isthe first from their respective sports to be India’s flag bearers at the Olympic Games.
The men of theIndian contingentwill be dressed in Kurta Bundi sets while the women will wear matching saris, reflecting India’s flag.
Notably, Greece, like always, will lead the Parade of Nations. But why? Notably,the Greek capital, Athens hosted the first-ever Olympics thousands of years ago, and even the modern-day games took place in the same city in 1896. So, to honour the birthplace of the modern-day Olympics, Greece will be the first country to come out in the Parade of Nations.
Considering all nations come out alphabetically, the Indian contingent will come out at the 84th number after Hungry and before Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the host country, France, will be the last (205), while the United States of America (USA) will be 204 because they are the next host of the Olympic Games in 2028. Moreover, Australia, being the selected host for the 2032 Olympic Games, will be the 203rd country.
