OJ Simpson dies of cancer at the age of 76
Former NFL player, OJ Simpson is no more, his family informed on Thursday (Apr 11). He died after a battle with cancer.
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace," his family shared in a poston his social media accounts.
The American football star and actor was acquitted in an explosive 1995 trial over the brutal murders of his former wife and a male friend.
He was sparedjail time after he was found not guilty of the 1994 stabbing deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.
However, after being convicted in 2008 on 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel at gunpoint, Simpson subsequently spent nine years behind bars in a Nevada prison.

Simpson, dubbed "The Juice," was one of the top and most famous athletes of the late 1960s and 1970s.
Despite his childhood injury, he became an electrifying running back at the University of Southern California, where he was awarded the Heisman Trophy as college football's top player.
After achieving numerous feats in his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Simpson gaged the fame he achieved from football to establish a career as a sportscaster, salesperson for advertisements, and in Hollywood as an actor in movies, including the "Naked Gun" series.
However, things changed after June 12, 1994, when Nicole Brown Simpson and Goldman were found dead outside of her Los Angeles home.
Simpson emerged as the prime suspect in the stabbing case and was ordered to surrender to the police.
However, things turned ugly when he escaped in his white Ford Bronco with a former teammate, carrying his passport and a disguise.
He was later charged withthe killings.
