When 32-year-old Jeetubhai Heerabhai Vanjara of Gujarat's Vadali received a parcel on Thursday (May 2), he thought it to be a harmless tape recorder. However, he ended up losing his life before he could realise it was loaded with explosives.
Not only did the 32-year-old labourer die,his 12-year-old daughter Bhumika also lost her life on the spot while his two other daughters sustained life-threatening injuries.
Now,police have revealed that the explosive-laden parcel was sent by none other than his wife’s former boyfriend.
Police revealed that Jayantibhai Balusingh Vanjara, 31, dispatched the parcel to Jeetubhai’s house.
On the surface, it looked like a tape recorder.
As soon as Jeetubhai plugged it in, it exploded, causing serious injuries to his eyes and chest.
The parcel was delivered through an auto-rickshaw.
The auto-rickshaw driver was soon apprehended by the police and the ensuing interrogation revealed that the parcel was sent by Jayantibhai.
Based on the driver’s statements, the accused was soon located and arrested.
Jayantibhai was grieved as he was against the marriage of his former girlfriend to Jeetubhai.
To build the explosive tape recorder, Jayantibhai travelled to Rajasthan to arrange all the required items. He used gelatin sticks and a detonator which was set off as soon as the "tape recorder" was plugged in, he reportedly revealed to police.
Jeetubhai’s two other daughters have been referred to Ahmedabad for further treatment as they sustained critical injuries in their eyes and chest.
According to police, Jeetubhai’s wife was not present in the house when the explosion occurred.
Police said the investigation is going on into the matter.
