Video: Woman on bike harassed by men on flooded road in Lucknow; 4 arrested

Amid heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, a woman was harassed by a group of men when she was riding a pillion on a motorcycle through a flooded road on Wednesday (Jul 31). The video of the incident went viral, drawing flak from netizens.

On Thursday Uttar Police took action and arrested four persons from Gomti Nagar, where the incident happened.

The video, which was originally shared by news agency IANS, shows a man and woman trying to cross a waterlogged road under the Taj Hotel Bridge in Lucknow. In an offensive show, a group of men seemed to be enjoying the knee-deep water and started splashing water on the riders continuously.

By the end of the video, a man was also seen groping the woman as she fell from the bike due to disbalance from splashed water.

As the motorcyclist tried to hurriedly cross the group, a few of them tried to pull the motorcycle from the back which led to the duo falling on the road.

The crowd was eventually reprimanded by the police, according to IANS.

In response to the video, the Lucknow Police on X said on Wednesday that cops are trying to identify the accused involved based on the CCTV footage.

"The Gomti Nagar police station immediately reached the spot and dispersed the crowd. Based on CCTV footage, the people creating chaos have been identified and action is being taken against them. At present, the situation is peaceful," the police said.

The four persons nabbed by the Lucknow Police on Thursday are Pawan Yadav, Sunil Yadav, Mohammad Arbaz and Viraj Sahu.

On Wednesday afternoon, Lucknow was drenched in water after the city received heavy rainfall. Many areas of the city were flooded with knee-deep water, including the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha building, where the state assembly’s Monsoon session is currently underway.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for several districts in Uttar Pradesh till August 1. The districts include Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathrash, Agra, Firozabad, Bijnaur, Muradabad.
