The Ganesh Laddu set a record by being sold for 18.6 million in Hyderabad’s Balapur
Hyderabad’s Balapur Ganesh laddu, a highly awaited event every year, was auctioned on Tuesday, with the amount reaching up to $35,806.92 (30 lakh). BJP leader from Balapur, Kolan Shankar Reddy,won the auction.
This auction is conducted every year on the last day of the Ganesh idol immersion.
In the previous year, the laddu was auctioned for $32,227.66 (27 lakh) and was bought by Dasari Dayanand Reddy.
The first auction was conducted in 1994, where the laddu was first sold for $5.37 (450rs). With every year, the amount has significantly increased, reaching $35,806.92 (30 lakh) in 2024.
Similarly, in Keerthi Richmond Villas in Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, the Ganesh Laddu was auctioned for 18.6 million (1.86 crore) on Monday. Organizers of the event refused to share the details of the buyer. The amount increased from last year by about $72,811.55 (61 lakh). Last year, the laddu was sold for 12.6 million (1.26 crore).
Over the years, the laddu has become one of the most valuable offerings during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. In 2022, the Laddu’s auction price was $71,625.36 (60 lakh).

The first auction of the Balapur Ganesh laddu took place in 1994, when Kolan Mohan Reddy, a local farmer, purchased the first laddu for $5.37 (450rs). His family is very fond of participating in the auction and often wins. The funds raised from the event are used for the development of the villages.
The yearly increase in the purchasing value shows that the tradition is successful to the date, portraying the event’s growing importance and popularity.
