
As India clinched a seat as a non-permanent member at the UNSC, India's external affairs minister S Jaishankar congratulated his team's effort at the UN high table.
"I am delighted that India has got into the United Nations Security Council with tremendous support," TS Tirumurti, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, said, adding, "I would like to express my gratitude to the member states of the United Nations for this ringing endorsement."

India won 184 votes from 192 members who voted at the UN General Assembly while being unopposed in the Asia-Pacific category for the 2021-22 term. The country will start its term from January next year.

"Peacekeeping has always been a part of our tradition and our history and contribution to UN peacekeeping has been second to none. So, we'll be looking very closely at issues relating to mandate to see how we can provide greater protection to our peacekeepers," Tirumurti asserted.
It is the eighth time India has been elected as a non-permanent member, it was elected for thefirst time in 1950-51 and most recently in 2011-12.
