India: Former minister Anil Deshmukh gets injured in stone pelting on his car

Indian state of Maharashtra's former home minister Anil Deshmukh faced stone-pelting on his car close to Nagpur and got seriously injured in the incidenton Monday evening (Nov.18).
The NCP leader was coming back from a poll meeting when some people attacked his car.
The leader had ended his meeting in Narkhed village and was going to Katol through Tinkheda Bishnoor Road when he faced the attack near Belphata on Katol Jalalkheda Road in Katol Assembly Constituency.
In the images, Deshmukh appeared hurt and blood was dripping from his head. He was seated in the front passenger seat of the car when the attack took place.
In a video, stains of blood appeared all over his white kurta. He was rushed to Alexis Hospital in Nagpur where he is being treated.

In the attack, the windshield of the vehicle was damaged, one of the car's windows got shattered and pieces of glass were strewn across the road as well as inside the vehicle.
Congress condemns 'fatal attack' on Deshmukh
"An investigation has begun. Police are trying to identify those responsible for the attack," said Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police, Harssh Poddar, while speaking to news agency PTI.
Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat condemned the "fatal attack" on the NCP leader.
"It is clear that there is no rule of law in the state from the fact that a former home minister was assaulted in Nagpur district. The police administration should immediately arrest the attackers," he wrote on X.

"Law and order in the state has deteriorated, and for fair and transparent elections, the Election Commission should intervene immediately and take steps to ensure that law and order remain smooth," he further said.
The attack happened on the last day of campaigning for the Maharashtra assembly elections, which will take place on November 20 and the counting of votes will take place on November 23.
NCP leader's son Salil Deshmukh is contesting elections from the Katol assembly constituency on the ticket of NCP against BJP candidate Charansingh Thakur.
