IIM grad lures wealthy women with fake marriage promises, dupes over 20 through Indian matrimonial sites

In India's Uttar Pradesh, the Greater Noida police have arrested an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) graduate accused of defrauding over 20 women through matrimonial sites.

How did he con the women?

The suspect, identified as Rahul Chaturvedi as per reports posed as a regional manager of a reputed company to lure unsuspecting women, particularly those from financially well-off backgrounds, into believing he was a genuine suitor. To prove that he was genuine, he also made use of premium accounts on matrimonial sites.

According to Shakti Avasthi, DCP Central Noida, Chaturvedi created premium accounts on matrimonial websites to make his profile appear credible and gain thewomen's trust. He would present fake salary slips and promise marriage, establishing trust.

He did this not only with the women but also with their families.

To further his scheme, Chaturvedi even impersonated his father by changing his voice during conversations with the victims' families. He was arrested by Bisrakh police, who are now investigating his criminal activities. Officials, as per reports, are interrogating him to gather information about and identify his other potential victims.

Matrimonial Cons and India

This case follows another incident in the national capital where just last week a man was arrested for duping over 50 women across several states.

Using matrimonial sites, he posed as a government official and targeted unmarried, widowed, or divorced women. He convinced them to buy expensive gifts and flight tickets, which he later converted into cash. He would also make them buy him flight tickets to travel to different cities.
