Chandrashekhar also congratulated Musk on becoming the head of the US Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump&rsquo;s administration and referred to him as his &ldquo;big brother&rdquo;.

<h2>Letters from jail</h2>
This is not the first time that the conman has written letters to notable personalities from prison. Last month, he wrote a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, declaring his overseas income of Rs 22,410 crore ($2591.5 million) for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
Earlier this month, Chandrashekhar proposed to CEO Sam Altman to invest in OpenAI&rsquo;s Indian operations, offering to invest $1 billion immediately and another $2 billion in the next five years.

According to Shakti Avasthi, DCP Central Noida, Chaturvedi created premium accounts on matrimonial websites to make his profile appear credible and gain the&nbsp;women's trust. He would present fake salary slips and promise marriage, establishing trust.&nbsp;

He did this not only with the women but also with their families.&nbsp;

To further his scheme, Chaturvedi even impersonated his father by changing his voice during conversations with the victims' families. He was arrested by Bisrakh police, who are now investigating his criminal activities. Officials, as per reports, are interrogating him to gather information about and identify his other potential victims.

According to reports, he confessed to the crimes.

Balesh Kumar, who had been leading a life under a new identity as Aman Singh and working as a property dealer in west Delhi's Najafgarh area, was taken into custody on September 28.

After his retirement from the Indian Navy as a steward in 1996,&nbsp;Kumar entered the transport business. Originally hailing from Haryana's Panipat, he had limited formal education, having completed studies up to Class 8.

He managed to hide&nbsp;his existence for years, living with his family under the guise of Aman Singh and working as a property dealer.

<h2>Hotel staffer involved</h2>

An FIR has been lodged by Vinod Malhotra, on behalf of Bird Airports Hotel Private Limited, the company which operates Roseate House. In the FIR, it has been alleged that Dutta had the help of a hotel staffer named Prem Prakash,&nbsp;head of the Front Office Department to pull off the 'Anna Sorkin-esque' scam.&nbsp;

Notably, Prakash had&nbsp;access to the hotel computer system to track the dues of all guests. The hotel management believes that Prakash might have received some cash as&nbsp;bribe from Dutta for letting him overstay his visit by manipulating the in-house software system.&nbsp;

“A criminal conspiracy was hatched by guest Mr Ankush Dutta along with some known and unknown hotel staff, including Mr Prem Prakash with a motive to gain wrongfully and deprive the hotel of its rightful dues,” read the FIR.&nbsp;

“In pursuance of the said conspiracy, the alleged staff of the hotel forged, deleted, added accounts entries and falsified a large number of entries in the account of the said guest Ankush Dutta in the Opera software system of the hotel,” it added.

<h2>Prakash fudged records&nbsp;</h2>

The FIR states&nbsp;that Prakash not only fudged the data of Dutta's stay, but he also fabricated accounts to show that other guests, who stayed in the hotel, paid for the conman, which obviously turned out to be bogus.&nbsp;

“The scrutiny of record of the alleged officials of the hotel revealed that they created several fake and false pending bills to benefit Ankush Dutta by adopting various ways like by removing room nights from his bills, transferring his debits into the bills of other guests’ bills, using settled bills of other guests by incorporating his name in the bill, etc,” the FIR said.

Usually, hotel management is&nbsp;instructed to settle a guest's outstanding dues within three days or 72 hours. However, if the timeline is crossed, the issue should be brought in front of the CEO and Financial Controller (FC) to seek a suitable course of action. In this case, Prakash neither settled the dues nor sent the information to the CEO and FC of the hotel.&nbsp;

The police have launched an investigation after conducting a preliminary inquiry. The hotel, meanwhile, has demanded strict legal action saying the culprits have committed "criminal offences, criminal breach of trust, forgery and falsification of accounts".&nbsp;

Duped: Indian man stays in five-star hotel for two years, checks out without settling $70,000 bill

A conman from Gujarat Kiran Patel deceived the Jammu and Kashmir officials by posing as a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had been feigning VIP status the entire time, which allowed him to get Z-plus security protection, a bulletproof SUV, and official lodging at a five-star hotel in Jammu &amp; Kashmir.

Patel had claimed that the government had given him the task of finding buyers for apple orchards in south Kashmir. Moreover, he had previously gone to the popular tourist destination Gulmarg stating that he was on a government assignment to look into improving the hotel amenities there.

However, the conman was caught on March 2 when he arrived at the airport. Security officials became suspicious and Patel's covert identity was exposed as&nbsp;no information of&nbsp;any&nbsp;VIP movement was available for that day.&nbsp;

An effort was made to stop him at the airport, but the conman had already gotten into a bulletproof car for his hotel. A case under relevant sections of cheating and forgery was registered against him on March 2.&nbsp;

Kiran Patel was apprehended on March 3 by vigilant security personnel while making his third trip to the Kashmir valley. He was produced before a court in Srinagar, as per reports. Patel was reportedly sent to 15-day judicial custody.&nbsp;

As per his Twitter Bio, he is a PhD holder from Commonwealth University, Virginia, an MBA from IIM, Trichy, M.Tech in Computer Science and B.E. Computer in LD Engineering. He also claims to be a "Thinker, Strategist, Analyst, Campaign Manager."

He would post videos on his social media from the picturesque valley of Gulmarg, where he could be seen surrounded by securitymen against a background of snow-covered mountains.

Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) questioned actor Nora Fatehi on Friday in connection with the conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar case. On October 14, actor and dancer Nora Fatehi arrived at the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to join the investigation in connection with the criminal case.

A Delhi court had sent Sukesh Chandrasekhar and actress Leena Maria Paul to three days ED remand in connection with a Rs 200 crore extortion case. They were arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the extortion racket which was being run from a Delhi jail.

Earlier, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez in a plea before the Appellate Authority of PMLA clearly stated that it is surprising that like her some other celebrities, notably, Norah Fatehi were also conned by main accused Sukesh Chandrashekhar in the Rs 200 crore extortion case.

She and other celebrities who received gifts from main accused Sukesh Chandrashekhar are witnesses whereas she is sought to be dragged as an accused. She further stated that the fixed deposits, attached vide the impugned order, have no nexus with a crime nor the fixed deposits created by using the alleged proceeds of crime.

The deposits are from the actor's own legitimate income and much before in time from even knowing that the main accused Chandrashekhar even existed in this world. Reportedly, the chargesheet filed against Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez clearly stated that she consciously chose to overlook his (Sukesh Chandrashekhar) criminal past and continued to indulge in financial transactions with him.

Not only she but also her family members and friends have benefited from the relationship financially. ED also concluded that the lure of money ensured that the criminal history of the person she was engaging with did not matter.

Further, the accused Jacqueline Fernandez has consistently shifted her stance with regard to the gifts received by her and her relatives. It was only upon confrontation with evidence and statements on record that she provided the details. Yet, she had been denying certain assets purchased by Sukesh for her and the investigation on that aspect is going on.

The chargesheet further stated that "Investigation so far has revealed that the accused actor is directly or indirectly involved in the proceeds of crime and acquired, possessed &amp; used part proceeds of crime - valuable gifts for herself &amp; her family members in India and abroad and thereby committed an offence of money laundering u/s 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, which is punishable u/s 4 of PMLA, 2002."

It also stated that Section 3 of PMLA, 2002 Accused Jacqueline Fernandez is involved in the process and activity connected with POC as discussed hereinbefore and thereby committed the offence of money laundering as defined under section 3 of PMLA for knowingly using and possessing the proceeds of crime.

The accused Jacqueline Fernandez, despite knowing that accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar has committed scheduled offences and out of those proceeds of crime generated through various criminal activities related to the schedule offences, the part proceeds of crime has been directly received in India and abroad as well by accused Jacqueline Fernandez for the use and enjoyment by herself and her family members and thereby projecting as loan amount in the form of transfers made into the accounts of the sister and brother of accused Jacqueline Fernandez and also bought cars for the father and mother of accused Jacqueline Fernandez and thereby acquired and enjoyed POC.

Meanwhile, the trial court also issued a summon to Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez to appear before it physically on September 26 in Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to Rs 200 crore money laundering scam involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekar and others.&nbsp;

Although he has has only 5 feet 2 inches tall and passed Class X, he has been accused of defrauding 13 banks in Kerala of Rs 1 crore ($1.3 million) using 128 forged credit cards.&nbsp;

He also swindled parents in Hyderabad of Rs 2 crore ($2.7 million) by promising their children seats in MBBS courses.

The US Federal Trade Commission, tracking scams reported to its Consumer Sentinel Network, said 2021 saw a record $547 million stolen in romance scams. This marked a nearly 80 percent increase compared to the year before.

Those figures cap an upward trend that leapt in the first year of the pandemic. People reported to the FTC losing $1.3 billion to the scams over the past five years, the most of any fraud category.&nbsp;

But it is just the tip of the iceberg, the FTC notes, as the vast majority of cons go unreported.

Cancelled dates over supposedly positive Covid tests and disrupted travel plans due to lockdowns are ruses that feed into the well-worn script of romance scammers, the FTC warned.

While awareness is growing, through support groups, online forums and even a recent documentary on Netflix "The Tinder Swindler," many still fall prey to elaborate cons spun to get into a victim's heart.

Scammers, many based in West Africa, will adopt fake identities, often saying they work abroad and travel a lot or are in the military,&nbsp;providing ready-made excuses for why they can't meet in person.

A period of intense contact is followed by requests to wire money for plane tickets, visa fees, medical expenses or other emergencies,&nbsp;always with the promise of paying the amount back when they are finally united.

The internet was already a low-cost, high-return field, but scammers, often working in teams, now hunt everywhere from Instagram to online games like Words with Friends.&nbsp;
