Former BJP leader Anil Jha officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday (Nov. 17) in the presence of the party's national convenorArvind Kejriwal.
The development came after the resignation of AAP MLA and Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot, who quit as minister andas party member citing unfulfilled promises to people, challenges and controversies surrounding the party.
Anil Jha, a two-time BJP MLA from the Kirari constituency in North West Delhi, said that his discontentment with the BJP's leadership and policiesled to his decision to switch.
Speaking on his decision to join AAP, Jha commended Kejriwal’s leadership. "If there is one person who has worked for the Purvanchali community in Delhi, it is Arvind Kejriwal,” he said.
"In 10 years under Arvind Kejriwal, drinking water reached every household," he added.

Welcoming Jha to AAP, Kejriwal described him as a significant leader of the Purvanchali community in Delhi. “Anil Jha is considered one of the biggest leaders of the Purvanchali community in Delhi. People from UP and Bihar come to Delhi for education and employment. For years, both the BJP and Congress ignored their needs. When I became chief minister, we initiated development work in these colonies to improve their living conditions,” Kejriwal stated.
Shortly after joining AAP, Jha criticised his former party, comparing BJP's Delhi leadership to "spoilt sons" and the central leadership to an "old father" unable to control them.
Meanwhile, Kailash Gahlot, a distinguished leader in AAP and MLA from Najafgarh announced his resignation from the party and the Delhi Council of Ministers.
In a letter addressed to AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal that helater shared on social media, Gahlot pointed to the recent controversies and unmet commitments as reasons for his exit. He sent his resignations as minister to CM Atishi and from the party’s primary membership to Kejriwal.
