Dubai Public Prosecutors Office closes Sridevi case, issues clearance letter to Kapoor family

Bringing an end to the ongoing debate on when Sridevi's mortal remains will reach India from Dubai, the Dubai Public Prosecution has now given a nod. 

The Dubai Police handed over to the Indian Consulate and the family members of Boney Kapoor, the letters for the release of the mortal remains of Sridevi. As per the procedure, her body can now proceed for embalming.

Meanwhile, the Dubai Public Prosecutors Office has closed the investigation into Sridevi's death and cited the forensic report to say she had accidentally drowned following loss of consciousness.

According to local media reports, the family has got custody of the body and taken it for embalming.

The Dubai Media Office, the official Twitter handle of the media office of the government, said in a series of tweets that the decision to release the body was taken after thorough investigation.

"Dubai Public Prosecution has approved the release of the body of the Indian actress Sridevi to her family following the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of her death," it said.

"Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed."

It is expected that the body would be flown back to India today. 

In another update, Arjun Kapoor flew to Dubai to be with his father Boney Kapoor as he wraps up formalities and takes the body home to Mumbai, the Kapoor family in Mumbai said. 

Sridevi died on February 24 in Dubai while her stay at Jumeirah Towers. According to the forensic report, that was released on Monday, Sridevi died due to 'accidental drowning' in her hotel room`s bathtub, after suffering a dizzying spell. Traces of alcohol were also found in the actor`s body, reported Gulf News. It was earlier reported that she had suffered a cardiac arrest.
