Delhi minister Atishi hospitalised as health worsens during her hunger strike against Haryana

Atishi, Delhi's Water Minister, was rushed to the hospital Tuesday morning (Jun 25) as her health reportedly deteriorated during an indefinite hunger strike. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister later said her blood pressure and sugar levels were dropping, along with her weight. Atishi is protesting against the government of neighbouring Haryana state for allegedly restricting the flow of the Yamuna river and not releasing 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water amidst a water crisis in the national capital. Notably, Haryana is governed by the national ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Atishi was taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital earlier today as her indefinite hunger strike entered the fifth day. Despite her poor health, Atishi has vowed to continue with the protest.
"My blood pressure and sugar levels are dropping and my weight has gone down. Ketone level is very high, which can have harmful effects in the long run," Atishi said. "No matter how much my body suffers, I will continue the fast till Haryana releases water," she added.
Meanwhile, AAP claimed Atishi's blood sugar levels dropped to 43 at midnight and further dropped to 36 by 3 am. The party later shared images of the Delhi minister being taken to the hospital.
"Atishi's blood sugar level fell to 36, so she has been admitted to LNJP Hospital," AAP leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a post on X.

Atishi alleged that the actions of the BJP government in Haryana have impacted 2.8 million people in Delhi.
"All of Delhi's water comes from neighbouring states. The BJP government of Haryana has withheld 100 MGD or more than 46 crore litres of water, which is Delhi's share," Atishi said.
