The Delhi court on Monday extended the police custody of Manoj Jain, owner of the Bawana factory where a massive fire perished 17 people to death.

The Delhi police also arrested the alleged co-owner of the factory, Lalit Goyal, on Friday and handed him over to the Crime Branch, which is probing the case.

On January 25, the court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Lalit Goyal.

Goyal, in his plea before the court, had claimed that he was just a servant in the factory and was neither named in the FIR nor was he present in the factory at the time of the fire.

Earlier, the massive fire that broke out in Delhi's Bawana industrial area on January 21 which caused the deaths of 17 people, including 10 women.

The police suspect that the accused were running the factory without any licence. The explosive materials were procured from outside Delhi.

The police will question the duo about the place from where the materials were procured and where they were supplied. It is suspected that the explosive materials were transported without permission.

They will also be asked about the reason behind their lies to the workers about the unit being a dye unit when it was actually a unit for packaging of cold firecrackers.

The rural development minister of Delhi government, Gopal Rai, on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs 5 Lakh to next of kin of the victims and Rs 1 lakh to the injured in the Bawana fire incident.
