
An Indian Army soldier was critically injured inan incident and later died in Jammu on Monday (Sept 2). This was initially reported to be a terror attack at theSunjawan Military Station on the outskirts of Jammu at around 10.50 am IST.
However, the army has said that the incident was not a terror and the death of the soldier was under investigation.
"Initial investigations by the Indian Army suggest that the incident in which a soldier lost his life in the morning is not a terrorist attack. The cause of the death of the soldier is being investigated," army officials told the news agency ANI.
Earlier, media reports said that terrorists had fired at the Sunjawan Military Station, with the army subsequently launching an operation.
This incident in Jammu came weeks after one terrorist was killed by security forces during an encounter in Doda on August 14. An Indian Army captain lost his life while leading a search operation during the encounter.
In recent months, Jammu has witnessed a rise in terror attacks, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur.
In July, the Indian home ministry told Parliament that 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terrorism operations up to July 21 this year.
