Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is back to his old ways of feuding with the opposition players and fans. After Argentina scored a late winner to clinch the Copa America tie against Chile, Martinez turned towards the Chilean fans and taunted them by standing on the advertising hoarding.

The World Cup champions had a hard time breaking down the Chilean defence at the MetLife Stadium on Tuesday night (Jun 25). However, Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez came in clutch in the 88th minute and ensured that Argentina qualified to the next round of the continental tournament.

While the Argentina outfield players celebrated in a heap, Martinez ran behind his goalpost, much to the chagrin of Chilean fans who could be seen flipping him off.

Martinez has a long, illustrious history of getting under the skin of the opposition. After Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar,a video clip from the dressing room showed the entire squad celebrating the victory by singing and dancing.

The squad could be heard chanting "a minute's silence for" in tandem when Martinez filled a deliberate pause with the shout: "For Mbappe who is dead!"

After winning the Golden Glove award, Martinez also made lewd gestures with the trophy which brought significant flak against him.

Later, Martinez was spotted with a doll with Kylian Mbappe's face on it during the victory parade in Buenos Aires.What made the situation more awkward was the fact that Martinez was standing beside Mbappe's then-PSG teammate Lionel Messi.

In the lead-up to the summit clash, Martinez resorted to playing mind games by targetting Mbappe. The Aston Villa keeper attacked the new Real Madrid player over his previous statements about the quality of football in South America.

Messi's injury scare

While Argentina qualified to the quarterfinals, coach Lionel Scaloni may have to rest their star player, Lionel Messi, for the final league match against Peru.

Messi felt something in his hamstring during the match but managed to push through the pain.

"I felt some discomfort in my right hamstring at the beginning of the game. It was tight. It wasn’t as loose as it should’ve been. But I was able to finish the game. We’ll see how it goes," Messi told the reporters.

Scaloni is expected to give chance to players who haven't got significant gametime during the two matches.
