Why X-Men (2000) is the key to Doomsday

The original X-Men (2000) is the only film that truly matters for Marvel’s upcoming multiverse showdown. Directed by Bryan Singer, it introduced audiences to Professor Xavier’s gifted mutants and their clash with Magneto’s Brotherhood. The movie established nearly all of the characters returning in Doomsday, including Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Cyclops, making it the foundation for the version of the team you’ll see in the MCU.

Also Read: Devil Wears Prada moment: Meryl Streep meets Anna Wintour at Milan Fashion Week

Later films like X2: X-Men United, The Last Stand, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix won’t influence Marvel’s storyline. Thanks to the timeline reset in X-Men: Days of Future Past, much of the original continuity was effectively erased, leaving the 2000 movie as the only essential entry to revisit.

How Days of Future Past changed everything

In Days of Future Past, Wolverine travels back in time to prevent a dystopian future ruled by Sentinels. When he returns, he discovers a rewritten timeline where characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops—once dead, are alive again. This shift nullified the events of The Last Stand and even undermined X2, whose plot hinged on Jean’s sacrifice.

Also Read: Who is Benny Blanco? While spinoffs such as Deadpool and Logan technically remain canon, they won’t play a significant role in Doomsday.

A farewell tribute to the mutants

Focusing solely on the original X-Men also carries emotional weight. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige began his career as an associate producer on the 2000 film. Reports suggest Avengers: Doomsday will serve as a heartfelt sendoff to these beloved characters before the MCU reboots the mutants for the next saga.

Also Read: Why are Tom Holland & Zendaya forced to increase security at their London home?

Who else might show up?

Beyond the confirmed lineup, speculation is running wild. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool are both rumored to appear, especially after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. Actor Evan Peters has also expressed interest in reprising Quicksilver, while longtime stars Halle Berry (Storm) and Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) are expected to return as part of the farewell.

When and where to watch

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026. Until then, fans can revisit Fox’s original X-Men streaming now on Disney+ to prepare for the mutants’ epic MCU comeback.

Waiting for Avengers: Doomsday to release in theaters? Do not forget to revisit X-Men (2000) before watching the first part of the Multiverse Saga’s finale as it features the return of Fox’s X-Men.

Many viewers on social media interpreted this as Salman’s response to Abhinav Kashyap’s ongoing accusations.

What did Abhinav Kashyap say?

Abhinav Kashyap, who directed Salman Khan’s 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, has repeatedly accused the actor and his family of harassment and of deliberately sidelining his career. In a recent podcast, he alleged that Salman not only took undue credit for Dabangg but also manipulated projects, including Tere Naam, where Abhinav claims his brother Anurag Kashyap was compelled to step away.

Also Read: Kajol, Rani Mukerji joined by Ayan Mukerji for family's Durga Puja celebrations

He further dismissed Salman’s praise for Anurag’s latest film Nishaanchi as nothing more than “chamchagiri” (sycophancy) aimed at silencing critics.
Milan Fashion Week witnessed a surreal crossover on September 27, when Hollywood fiction collided with fashion reality. Wintour, who helmed Vogue from 1988 until 2025, has long been seen as the real-life counterpart to Priestly- the impeccably dressed, sharp-tongued editor of Runway magazine in the movie.

The Dolce & Gabbana press office later confirmed that filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 was underway at the Milan event. Throughout the show, Streep and Tucci stayed in character, studying the runway with the same intensity that made their roles unforgettable nearly two decades ago.

Also Read: Selena Gomez ties knot with Benny Blanco; shares dreamy wedding pictures

What to expect from The Devil Wears Prada 2

The sequel, slated for release in May 2026, will reunite much of the original cast. During Milan Fashion Week, Meryl Streep met Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor, who is believed to be the inspiration to the character Miranda Priestly in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.

Milan Fashion Week witnessed a surreal crossover on September 27, when Hollywood fiction collided with fashion reality. Meryl Streep, dressed as her iconic character Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada (2006), came face-to-face with Vogue’s legendary editor Anna Wintour, the woman long believed to have inspired Priestly. The encounter happened backstage at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2026 runway show, where both women- unsurprisingly- wore their signature oversized sunglasses. Vogue shared a now-viral Instagram video capturing the moment. In the clip, Streep greets Wintour warmly, joking, “This is my first fashion show,” while stepping out of Priestly’s famously icy persona.
During the celebrations, the cousins were joined by Ayan Mukerji. Later, they turned emotional when they reminisced about Ayan's father, Deb Mukherjee, who passed away in March this year. For the unversed, Deb Mukherjee had always organised the family's Durga Puja pandal every year. The cousins even hugged and embraced each other in a heartwarming moment. Followed by hugging and posing with Ayan Mukerji, as shared by user Viral Bhayani on Instagram.

Also Read: Kapil Sharma gets ₹1 crore extortion call; man from Kolkata arrested
