A US jury on Wednesday found that entertainment giant Live Nation wielded monopoly power at its Ticketmaster business, violating federal and state antitrust laws, according to California's attorney general. A verdict that could have profound repercussions in the concert world came after four days of deliberations, and remedies could include breaking up Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The jury found Live Nation and Ticketmaster liable for anticompetitive conduct that harmed the music industry and included overcharging consumers, according to California attorney general Rob Bonta. "This is a historic and resounding victory for artists, fans, and the venues that support them," Bonta said in a release. "In the face of dwindling antitrust enforcement by the Trump Administration, this verdict shows just how far states can go to protect our residents from big corporations that are using their power to illegally raise prices and rip-off Americans. "We are incredibly proud of today's outcome -- and especially proud of our coalition made up of red and blue states alike who understood we needed to come together to protect our consumers, businesses, and state economies from Live Nation's illegal conduct." The jury found that Live Nation overcharged for tickets sold to consumers from May 2020 through 2024, according to Bonta. "The jury's verdict is not the last word on this matter," Live Nation said in response to an AFP inquiry. "Pending motions will determine whether the liability and damages rulings stand." - DOJ settlement - US judge Arun Subramanian is to determine monetary damages to impose on Live Nation, along with conditions meant to prevent it from abusing its power in the live event ticket market. The case was initiated under former president Joe Biden in May 2024, when the Department of Justice (DOJ) labeled Live Nation a monopolist that controlled virtually all live entertainment in the United States. The California-based company is a behemoth in its industry: in 2025, it organized more than 55,000 events worldwide, drawing 159 million attendees. Beyond promotion, it holds stakes in 460 venues and has controlled Ticketmaster, the world's leading ticket seller, since 2010. The US government accused Live Nation of abusing its dominant position to pressure artists and venues into signing with it, stifling competition, and imposing excessive fees on fans. It called for Live Nation to divest Ticketmaster and take other corrective measures. Live Nation reached a tentative settlement with the US Justice Department just days after the trial started in New York, but an alliance of states that had signed on to the case continued to press it in court. The settlement requires Live Nation to open up the ticketing platform to competitors and to allow other promoters to stage events at certain Live Nation venues, Justice Department officials said. Live Nation will divest up to 13 amphitheaters and pay $280 million in damages to the nearly 40 states that were parties to the antitrust lawsuit against the California-based company. "This verdict underscores what a bad idea settling was," John Kwoka, an economics professor at Northeastern University, told AFP. "This judge seemed to recognize that the DOJ was just trying to make the case go away, so he might well now understand the need to accept a stronger remedy." Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren condemned the settlement in a post on X at the time. "Donald Trump just betrayed every fan who's been exploited by Ticketmaster," Warren said. "We need to break up Ticketmaster and Live Nation."

Samay Raina, an Indian stand-up comedian, YouTuber, and content creator known for his dark comedy, found himself embroiled in controversy in 2025 over his popular YouTube show India's Got Latent. Hosted by Raina, the show focused on uncovering hidden talents while prioritising dark humour, roasts, and ratings from the content creators' panel. In February 2025, the show faced a major setback when Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, made a highly inappropriate comment in one of the episodes. The incident ultimately led to the show’s end. Raina has now revealed that, following the controversy, he recorded his apology video nine times, admitting that he was mentally zoned out and demotivated during that period. Also Read: Samay Raina on India’s Got Latent controversy, says police forced to delete all episodes
Samay Raina recorded an apology video nine times
In a conversation with Vaibhav Munjal on The Longest Interview, the comedian revealed how his new stand-up comedy show healed him and became his motivation. Since the platform has strict policies regarding the use of slang and explicit content, the comedian began uploading members-only videos, accessible exclusively to subscribers. One of those videos featured Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, and several others, during which Allahbadia asked a contestant an explicit, vulgar question about their parents, which led to immediate public outrage.

Days after winning millions of hearts with his new stand-up special, Still Alive, Samay Raina has finally opened up about his life following last year’s India’s Got Latent controversy.

It’s been a while since we watched a good Bollywood comedy. And perhaps longer since a director has used the perfect comic timing of Rajkummar Rao in a movie script. Rao, who has featured in a spate of mostly unforgettable films in recent years, perhaps got bored with the repeated roles that were being offered to him year after year and decided to back a genuinely funny film called Toaster. Released on Netflix directly, it's the kind of film that makes you laugh out loud at mundanity, the everyday chaos that the Indian middle-class balances in life. Directed by Vivek Daschaudhary and produced by Rao’s wife, Patralekha, Toaster feels refreshing amid the heavy-duty pan-India action films that filmmakers are constantly feeding us.
What’s the story of Toaster?
Toaster is based on a story by Parveez Shaikh and with a screenplay by Shaikh, Akshat Ghildial and Anagh Mukerjee. The film has Rao playing Ramakant, a chronic miser who finds himself in a sticky situation after a series of deaths in his neighbourhood leads the police and his crime-news-obsessed wife, Shilpa (Sanya Malhotra), to become suspicious about a missing toaster. Everyone is eyeing the aforementioned toaster, from Ramakant, who wants a refund for it, to a budding politician, to a cop wanting to save his job, to the manager of an orphanage (Farah Khan in a delightful cameo). Everyone has a vested interest in the toaster, which Ramakant keeps harping on as his. The series of deaths leads to more chaos and jeopardises Ramakant’s relationship with Shilpa. He also has to navigate a few older women who seem to be fixated on him.

Farah Khan in Toaster

What works and what does not
A comedy of mishaps and errors has to have impactful dialogues that land well and a tight screenplay. Thankfully, Toaster works in the two departments as Parveez Shaikh, Akshat Ghildial, and Anagh Mukherjee build the perfect premise for the film. The laughs are in plenty, and I particularly enjoyed a scene featuring a very high Abhishek Banerjee hallucinating his dead mother as he spots Rao dressed in a burqa. The scene is silly, but the two actors elevate it to a level that one can’t help but laugh out loud. The two actors have proven their perfect comic timing in the Stree franchise before and in Toaster too, compliment each other well. It's pure delight to watch Banerjee and Rao on screen doing silly things so convincingly.

Toaster

While the writing is good, the actors are also well cast, each delivering to their abilities. Rao, as the chronic miser who is also a pathological liar, leads the comedy with his sheer talent and perfect comic timing. I prefer Rao’s comedic performances over his serious films. Make no mistake, he is good in almost all his films, but comedy is tough, and Rao excels in well-written comedies like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Stree. Giving him company are equally talented actors like Sanya Malhotra, Upendra Limaye, Seema Pahwa, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan and Archana Puran Singh.

Archana Puran Singh in Toaster

Malhotra, who has time and again proved her mettle in various films and performances, plays Shilpa effortlessly. Puran’s character is crucial to the film. Her character arc in the film is interesting, showcasing a refreshing take on older women and their desires. And Singh plays the character well. However, not all scenes land in her case. But that’s a negligible flaw in an overall enjoyable film.

Final verdict
A suspension of disbelief is required while watching Toaster, a comedy that is feel-good and not necessarily logical, but it is still a thoroughly enjoyable film. Most importantly, it breaks the clutter of action films which are high on testosterone. Toaster is easy- breezy and keeps you smiling till the end.

Toaster movie review: Rajkummar Rao and his wife Patralekha turn producers for this delightful comedy of errors and mishaps. Rao features as the chronic miser whose life takes a 360-degree turn after he buys a toaster.

War or no war, Bollywood and SRK remain a constant for everyone. As tensions between the United States and Iran continue, social media has become a platform to take jibes at each other. Pop culture references are common, and the Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai recently took the help of Bollywood to respond to Tehran’s strategic advantage over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran consulate in Mumbai quotes SRK
On X, the consulate highlighted the waterway’s pivotal role in global energy routes and naval dominance. “Bro forgot that even after ‘smashing fleets’, control of the Strait of #Hormuz decides the game,” it wrote in a post. The statement followed reports that a deadline set by US President Donald Trump in connection with a naval blockade expired on Monday. After the breakdown of high-level peace talks in Islamabad, the US military has reportedly started limiting the movement of ships travelling to and from Iranian ports. Dismissing US warnings, the Consulate stated in Hindi, “Baaki sab filmy dialogue hai boss (Rest are just lines from a movie).” In another post, Tehran described its naval forces as “red bees of the Persian Gulf,” accompanied by a video montage showing missile launches and swarm boat tactics. Reacting to it, the Iran Consulate in Mumbai quoted Shah Rukh Khan’s movie dialogue and wrote, “Funny how #Trump kept claiming #Iran’s navy was ‘finished’… now they’re about to find out how a swarm can pin you down real quick….Abhi toh sirf trailer hai, picture abhi baaki hai (This is just the trailer; the movie is yet to come).”

What happened at Coachella?
Sabrina Carpenter performed at Coachella on Friday. The misunderstanding happened between two songs. As Carpenter finished her number “Please, Please, Please,” and sat down at the piano for her next number, someone in the crowd suddenly let out a loud trill.“I think I heard someone yodel,” Carpenter said into the microphone. “Is that what you’re doing? I don’t like it.”
What is a zaghrouta?
A zaghrouta (or zagharit) is a traditional, high-pitched, vocalized sound made by women in Middle Eastern and North African cultures to express immense joy, celebration, or congratulations.
Online uproar
Soon after the concert, Carpenter faced severe online backlash as many called her “insensitive and Islamophobic.” The singer was “mad disrespectful for mocking the zaghrouta,” wrote one X user. “What’s worse is the blatant racism that followed and the laughs of the audience,” they continued. A day after, on Saturday Carpenter issued an apology, which was mostly well-received online. Many thanked the pop star for taking accountability.
About Sabrina Carpenter
Carpenter made her foray into showbiz as a child actor who featured in Disney’s Girl Meet World as Maya. In recent years, she has transitioned from acting to singing and attained stardom. During her debut at Coachella in 2024, she vowed to return as a headliner. Her Coachella show on Friday was an elaborate Hollywood-themed production — dubbed “Sabrinawood” — packed with references to classic movies, including a dance from 1987’s “Dirty Dancing,” and celebrity cameos.
