The Emmys 2024 night was dominated by Shogun and The Bear, as predicted. The 76th Primetime Emmy ceremony concluded with a mixed feeling, while some were celebrating the surprise wins, others were miffed over being snubbed.

Held at the Peacock Theatre, the biggest nominee of the evening Shogun and The Bear, were leadingthe award night in a drama and comedy, respectively, with their creators going home with the shining trophies in their hands.

Going into the evening, the hit FX's hit series already held the record for the most Emmy wins, as it bagged 14 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys'. At the main event, the show continued its impressive run as it earned four awards in four major categories, taking the total winning count to 18.

Similarly, The Bear emerged as a big winner, despite a big shock. The critically acclaimed comedy show was unexpectedly snubbed and lost the Outstanding Comedy Seriestrophy.

Another major surprise of the evening was Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.Despite receiving 21 nominations and being one of the most nominated series of this year, the star-studded show failed to earn a single trophy, returning home empty-handed.

Snub and Win

On Sunday night, Jeremy Allen White's restaurant drama The Bear won three Emmy Awards, However, the big shock came when the show lost the Outstanding Comedy Series trophy to Hacks, a surprise that caught many off guard.

Historic Win

FX's Shogun has registered its name in the history of Emmys. On Sunday night, the historical drama earned four trophies for Best Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Best Drama Director for Frederick E.O. Toye.

The show has made history by becoming the first majority non-English language series to win Best Drama Series. Actor Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada have also become the first Japanese actors to win an Emmy in an acting category.

Shocking

Hacks co-creator Paul W. Downs said on a stage while accepting the trophy for outstanding comedy series, "I have no thoughts in my brain.'' Much like him, no one would have thought that actorJean Smart-starrer show would take the trophy in this major category.

The Max series is about two female comedians from different generations. Smart, 72 also won an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.

Surprise

The Bear‘s Liza Colón-Zayas won her first Emmy award in Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, beating strong contenders like Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building) and Carol Burnett, (Palm Royale)among others.
