Producer Pahlaj Nihalani reveals Govinda's superstitions led to his downfall

Govinda

Film producer Pahlaj Nihalani who worked with Govinda extensively in the 1990s has now opened up about his equation with the actor who saw massive success during that time. Pahlaj revealed that he could never build a relationship with him and couldn’t be friends with him because he was always very unpredictable.

Pahlaj said Govinda would make bad professional decisions and could never keep up with the success because of his superstitions.

Govinda was highly superstitious

On why Govinda saw a downfall in career, Pahlaj spoke on Friday Talkies YouTube channel that while Govinda’s acting capabilities remain unmatched, his superstitions took him down. “He gradually became more and more superstitious. He was always a little gullible. He would say that the chandelier is about to fall on set, and ask everyone to move aside. Then he would predict that Kader Khan was going to drown. He would instruct people to change their clothes based on his superstitions. He would refuse to do certain things on certain days. All of this, combined with his tardiness and gullibility, led to his downfall,” Nihalani said.

Govinda was doing 5-6 films at a time without any thought to them

Pahlaj Nihalani wasn’t impressed with Govinda’s looks when he first met with him but he was wowed by Govinda’s screen presence.

“We never became friends. We had a connection, but there was always an uncertainty working with him. He would sign dozens of B-grade and C-grade movies without a second thought. He’d be working on five or six movies at the same time, nobody would know where he is. He’d be late constantly. He would lie. He said that he was doing it for the money, and I told him that this is a dangerous way of thinking.” Pahlaj said.
