Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao's 'Love Sonia' to be screened at United Nations

Indian film ‘Love Sonia’ will now be showcased at the United Nations as it deals with the crucial issue of sex trafficking. This will mark the film’s first screening in the United States. Watch trailer here.

According to reports, ‘Love Sonia’ will be screened on October 11 in New York on the International Day of the Girl Child. According to a statement issued, the screening will be hosted by the UN Office for Drugs and Crime and Indian anti-trafficking organisation, Apne Aap Women Worldwide.

Simone Monasebian, Director of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime said, "Art is a powerful advocacy tool to raise awareness and we hope this beautifully acted thoughtful film will move people to take action against the scourge of sex trafficking.”

Sex trafficking is a major global issue with it being the third largest crime in the world, according to UNODC. Not only does it involve several billions of dollars but also results in making victims of women and children.

Speaking on this honour, director of the film Tabrez Noorani said, "It's an honour for us to screen our film Love Sonia for the UN. I feel privileged and I am looking forward to the screening on the October 11 in New York.” Read review here.

The screening will be followed by a reception to honour the ‘Love Sonia’ team. Apne Aap will give The Last Girl award to an undisclosed recipient to be revealed in the next week or so. Last year, this award was given by Apne Aap to Ashley Judd.
