Boob job, tummy tuck and more: What is Grandma makeover plastic surgery?

Older women

Women having surgeries to enhance their physical attributes is nothing new. Facelifts, lip fillers, and botox are popular cosmetic procedures. Even physical surgeries are the norm these days, with women opting for tummy tucks, boob jobs, and more. However, a new age group seems to have embraced the trend of physical surgeries, those who are 60 years and older.

According to a New York Post report, many older women are choosing to go under the knife to enhance their physical attributes. Be it breast improvement or tummy tucks, they are doing it all without hesitation to increase their confidence.

Dr Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic dermatologist, told the Post that they are "seeing heightened interest from an older population who used to just give up on their bodies".

Another doctor shared that he just performed breast reduction surgery on an 81-year-old woman. Dr. Lyle Leipziger, the chief of plastic surgery at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center, told Post, "There is now a spike in women coming in for procedures later in life — 50, 60s, 70s — including breast improvement and tummy tucks."

He added that earlier, women of this age group mostly just opted for facelifts, but now they are "doing everything for themselves".

Gina Nagel, a 62-year-old grandmother, says at this age she is "more fun and spontaneous than when I was married". So after her divorce, she decided to do more fun things. That included going to the beach with her granddaughter. But she wanted to feel confident and so, to gain more confidence physically, she went to Dr Leipziger for a breast lift and tummy tuck.

“I never had a body that looked this good — even when I was in my 20s," she told the Post.

Lisa, a 63-year-old with a PhD in international education and global politics, told the Post that seeing her 77-year-old friend Pam look youthful after getting some work done inspired her to do the same.

“I had dimples on my legs and now they are smooth, and I don’t have to think about how to strategically cover it up," the grandmother said.
