Netflix crafting JFK limited series in The Crown mould

John F Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States.

Netflix is reportedly developing a limited series that will delve into the life of one of America's most iconic Presidents, John F Kennedy. The news was reported by Variety, citing sources.

The series is set to draw inspiration from Fredrik Logevall's 2020 book, JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956. This book represents the first part of a two-volume biography of Kennedy, focusing on his life from birth up to his tenure as a junior US Senator from Massachusetts.

Screenwriter Eric Roth, who has penned and other notable films, is attached to write and executive produce this project. Joining him as executive producers are Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment. The search for a showrunner is currently underway.

Netflix envisions this series as an American counterpart to The Crown, a show that has found significant success in portraying the British royal family. The Kennedy family's profound impact on American history makes them a compelling subject. Whether this series will adopt The Crown's approach of changing actors to reflect the aging of characters is yet to be confirmed.

Who was John F Kennedy?

John F. Kennedy, commonly known as JFK, was the 35th President of the United States. He was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, and tragically assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy is remembered for his charismatic and inspirational leadership during a critical period in American history, known for his famous inaugural speech line, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

Kennedy’s presidency, which began in 1961, was marked by significant events, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, the establishment of the Peace Corps, and the push for civil rights. He also set the ambitious goal of landing a man on the moon before the end of the 1960s, a goal that was achieved during the Apollo programme.

His time in office was cut short, but JFK remains an iconic figure in American history, celebrated for his eloquence, vision, and his role in shaping the nation’s trajectory during a period of both domestic and international challenges.
