Rohit Sharma’s Team India have enjoyed a stellar last 36 hours after they returned to the nation on Thursday (July 4). The newly crowned champions of the T20 format on Friday were felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a brief ceremony held at his office in Mumbai. Rohit and Co got a fitting welcome from the Mumbai crowd on Thursday while they were earlier felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. CM Shinde also announced a cash prize of INR 110 million ($1.32 million) for the members of the qinning squad.

Having won the T20 World Cup and returned to Mumbai on Thursday, CM Eknath Shinde took time from his busy Assembly session to felicitate the Indian team. He was seen meeting with players including T20 World Cup-winning captain and local lad Rohit Sharma along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and others. The felicitation saw the players being greeted with shawls and idols of Lord Ganesha. However, a few members were missing from the felicitation ceremony held by CM Shinde with them already leaving Mumbai.

One notable absentee was Virat Kohli, who was reported to have left for London overnight to be with his family.

Fitting reception for Team India

In a grand ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, the BCCI officials felicitated Team India and its stars and handed a cheque of INR 1.25 billion ($15 million). Board Secretary Jay Shah, President Roger Binney, BCCI Vice President, Treasurer Ashish Shelar and others were present at the ceremony as Team India was welcomed with open arms. Players then went for a victory lap around the stadium handing out signed balls for the fans and showcasing the World Cup winning trophy.

Having arrived in New Delhi in the wee hours of Thursday, Rohit Sharma and the rest of the Indian team visited the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi where they received a grand welcome. The players soon left for Mumbai from New Delhi with a huge ceremony planned at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was around 6 PM when Team India arrived in Mumbai with the T20 World Cup Trophy with high security on alert.

The team initially left the airport in buses before arriving near Marine Drive where they would get into an open-roof bus. The team enjoyed its drive with fans out in large numbers as they thronged the streets along Marine Drive. The open-roof bus then entered the Wankhede Stadium where the playersgot another warm welcome.
