Ricky Ponting makes BRAVE early prediction for India vs Australia five-Test series
India and Australia are set to lock horns in a five-match Test series, i.e. the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting later this year Down Under. Notably, this will be the first time since the 1991-92 season that the two heavyweights will square off to play five Tests in a series. Ahead of the marquee series, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting made a bold early claim, backing Pat Cummis & Co. to beat India 3-1 and reclaim the BG Trophy for the first time since 2014-15.
'Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia'
Ponting told ICC Review Show, "It's going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what's happened the last the last two series here. We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone's really excited by that and I don't know if there'd be too many drawn games."
He added, "I'm obviously going to tip Australia to win and I'm never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I'm going to say 3-1 to Australia."

The second Test, in Adelaide, will be a day-night affair. Prior to the series commencement, India will also play a two-day day-night practice Test at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Rohit & Co. will be eager to retain the BG Trophy once again but will be wary of a strong comeback from Australia on their home soil.
