The alleged gunman who attempted to assassinate former US President Donald Trump on Sunday (Sep 15), has been identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh. He was arrested by the Secret Service agents after he opened fire near the boundary of Trump's golf course.
Routh is believed to be from North Carolina and has a lengthy criminal record, according to a report in theNY Post. He frequently posted about politicos and exclusivelydonated to Democratic candidates, dating back to 2019.
TheFederal Election Commission (FEC) filings show that between September 2019 and March 2020, he contributed more than $140 to the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue.
His LinkedIn shows that he attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State Universitybut relocated to Hawaii sometime around 2018.
Despite taking such a drastic step against a former US president, Routh had no formal military background but on multiple instances, he had expressed strong desires to participate in the armed conflicts.
In one post in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he advocated for civilians to change the course of global conflicts.
"IAM WILLING TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO VOLUNTEER AND FIGHT AND DIE," he wrote.
In an interview with The New York Times,Routh claimed to have travelled to Ukraine to support the war effort and recruit Afghan soldiers.
In June 2020, Routh posted that while he supported Trump in 2016, he was left disappointed by his White House tenure.
“I and the world hoped that President Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment and it seems you are getting worse and devolving; are you retarded; I will be glad when you gone,” he wrote.
Who was funding Ryan Routh in Ukraine? Was he radicalized there and sent back to the US? Did he receive training while he was there? If he got training, did Kamala/Biden fund it? Did Ryan ever meet with or correspond with Ukrainian officials? All questions that must be answered. pic.twitter.com/oUsAeJZqva — Robby Starbuck (@robbystarbuck) September 15, 2024
