Following a bird flu scare in India, Saudi Arabia has decided to temporarily ban the imports of live birds, hatching eggs and chicks from India. The Saudi agriculture ministry confirmed the same on Thursday.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture the ban was issued keeping in view the warning released by the Paris-based OIE.

The OIE report mentioned that the H5N8 virus was detected on December 26 among birds in a village called Dasarahalli near Bengaluru. The virus has killed close to 951 birds while others were culled.
