London, UK
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has urged Londoners to check on their friends and neighbors, as Muslims and minority ethnic communities have been left feeling fearful following the recent UK riots.
The mayor said he was aware of specific locations that may be targeted in the city on Wednesday (Aug 7) and has warned "anyone who is thinking of spreading hatred in our city and if you break the law, stern action will be taken against you”.
Khan further said, “The acts of violence and disorder on the streets of London will not be tolerated," he stated, adding that anyone found guilty of committing a crime will be arrested and face the full force of the law.”

“The disorder, racism and violence that we have seen in towns and cities across the country in the last week have been truly shocking,” Khan posted on X.
“The disturbing events have left many Muslims and minority ethnic communities feeling scared and fearful. I urge my fellow Londoners to check on their friends and neighbors, demonstrating that care and compassion are what Londoners stand for,” the mayor urged.
“In London, we have zero-tolerance for racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism or any form of hate and we pride ourselves on being open, diverse and welcoming of all faiths and backgrounds. Those who seek to divide our communities will never win,” the post on X further read.

Khan also expressed gratitude to those who came out in support against racism and Islamophobia.
He said, "To those who came out peacefully to show London stands united against racism and Islamophobia last night—thank you. To our heroic police force working round the clock to keep Londoners safe—thank you. And to those far-right thugs still intent on sowing hatred and division—you will never be welcome here."
