According to the report, Starmer and his family met Swift and her mother Andrea for 10 minutes backstage at Wembley Stadium on August 20. They talked about the stabbing incident at a Taylor Swift-themed children's party that left three kids dead, and sparked off a series of racially charged riots in July.

The prime minister's office has maintained that the decision to offer such protection to Swift was an operational matter taken by Scotland Yard, the UK's police department.

The report comes amid initial refusal from Starmer's office to confirm if he had met Swift.

Starmer was under pressure to share details of his brush-by with Swift after The Sun and others reported it, after he was invited to the concert at Wembley stadium on August 16 along with family by Universal Music.

As required by parliament rules, Starmer declared that he got the tickets worth&nbsp;£2,800 for the concert. He later coughed up the money for it, after massive criticism that he had been accepting such freebies worth thousands of pounds.

The issue is the decision by authorities to provide Swift a police convoy by the Special Escort Group or SEG. The elite group of the Metropolitan police was apparently brought in for Swift's security because she pulled out of her scheduled concerts in Vienna following a foiled Islamic State-inspired terror attack plot there.

According to reports, Met Police was not interested in giving such treatment, but the decision was taken anyway after London Mayor Sadiq Khan and home secretary Yvette Cooper made representations about the negative economic fallout if Swift cancelled the London tour. Sue Gray, the now-former chief of staff of Starmer, was involved in the preparations, and&nbsp;Swift's mother Andrea personally coordinated the security details provided to her, claimed the reports.

As the controversy mounted, a spokersperson for Starmer, while not denying that his office may have had 'conversation and dialogue' with Swift's team, characterised it as 'completely routine'.

<h2>Starmer's appetite for 'freebies' is becoming a political liability for Labour</h2>

As the controversies mounted over Starmer accepting gifts, donations and freebies, the UK PM repaid £598 for two tickets to Swift’s Wembley concert, which had earlier been paid for by the Football Association that also owns the stadium.&nbsp;

Oddly enough, records showed that Starmer did not attend the concert, but his wife did.

For a month now, Starmer and other senior Labour leaders have been accused of accepting lavish gifts and hospitality. The freebies declared by the Starmer government are worth more than 100,000 pounds and include tickets worth nearly 700 pounds for the Coldplay concert in Manchester.

The freebie culture, however, is nothing new in British politics. The previous Tory regime had been accused of taking gifts worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, and giving Covid pandemic-related contracts to Conservative cronies and friends.

But the problem is, Labour is expected to know and do better, having won this year's elections on the promise that it would be more in touch with the common folk, and a commitment to rein in the cost of living crisis in the UK.

Durrani who has served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran and the&nbsp;United Arab Emirates&nbsp;(UAE), was appointed to the position in May 2023 after his predecessor Sadiq Khan resigned from the position.&nbsp;

Sources say that Durrani opted to leave the position citing personal reasons and that he has gone back to being a senior fellow at an Islamabad-based think tank, a position he held before taking the role as the Special Representative on Afghanistan.

As a special representative, Durrani’s tenure was marred by challenges when it came to the bilateral aspect of the Pakistan-Afghanistan relationship. While outstanding issues on visas, one document regime, and transit trade were resolved to a greater extent between the two countries during his tenure, at the same time the issue of terrorism continued to dominate the tumultuous trajectory of the bilateral relationship.

While continuing to press on the issue of girls' education, Ambassador Durrani was of the opinion internally that one issue should not dominate the course of engagement with neighbours&nbsp;next door, in this case, the Taliban, especially when they are now a geopolitical reality by being in charge of Afghanistan.

Taking a further swipe at Khan, the former cricketer invoked one of his recent social media posts where he promised to deploy more police officers on the streets of London if elected mayor for a third term.

“As Mayor I’ve already doubled investment in policing and crime prevention. If I’m re-elected, a return to proper neighbourhood policing would be at the heart of my third term. Keeping Londoners safe is my number one priority,” the post read.

To this, Pieterson posted, “This bloke has been in charge for years now and all of this London nonsense has been on HIS clock. Blame everyone else, @SadiqKhan – we all know what the greatest leaders DON’T do.”

A Pakistan-origin British politician who rose from humble origins to be elected London mayor, Khan is a member of the Labour Party. He has been the mayor of London since 2016.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan claims Brexit's cost to UK exceeds $178 billion

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that the government's plans to curb legal migration will trigger a recruitment crisis in the British capital.

High levels of legal migration have particularly ruled the political landscape of Britain for over ten years and have been a significant factor in the 2016 vote for Brexit.

Last week, Britain announced plans to slash the number of migrants that were arriving via legal routes and raise the minimum salary they must earn in a skilled job by a third&nbsp;amid pressure on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to tackle record net migration figures.

Home Secretary (interior minister) James Cleverly said the new measures could reduce that number by 300,000.

Cleverly said that the government would raise the minimum salary threshold for foreign skilled workers to 38,700 pounds ($48,900), from its current level of 26,200 pounds, though health and social workers would be exempt.

Describing the policies as misguided, Khan said that the failure to train the domestic workforce will make it difficult for London businesses to function without the required staff.

“One of the reasons that London is the greatest city in the world is the contribution of successive generations of immigrants working side by side with trained Brits. Migrants are absolutely integral to our economy and public services, whether running our care homes and our bars and restaurants or helping power our world-leading arts and creative sector," the Guardian quoted Khan as saying.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan receives racist abuse after false report on Queen statue

The office of London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Saturday that Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick will leave her post on April 10.

"The Mayor will now work closely with the Home Secretary (interior minister Priti Patel) to appoint a new Commissioner to address the deep cultural issues facing the Met Police Service," Khan's office said in a statement.

“The Mayor has been clear that candidates for the next Commissioner must have a plan to restore the trust and confidence of Londoners.”

It is the first instance when air pollution has been listed as the cause of death in the UK.

Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah had died after an asthma attack, she was taken to the hospital several times earlier.

Coroner Philip Barlow said: "Air pollution made a material contribution to Ella's death, she was exposed to levels of nitrogen dioxide in excess of World Health Organization guidelines. The principal source of her exposure was traffic emissions."

An enquiry earlier had said that the nine-year-old Ella had died of acute respiratory failure.
