<p>London &amp; Partners, the Mayor of London's inward investment agency, also found that while London was the top city globally for tech foreign direct investment (FDI) over the past 10 years, Bengaluru&nbsp;emerged in sixth place as a hub for tech companies looking to expand internationally – ahead of the likes of New York City, Dublin, Shanghai and Beijing, according to the data released to mark the start of London Tech Week 2019.</p>

<p>Between April 2009 and March 2019, Indian investments into London involved 36 projects by 22 Indian companies, with a capex of nearly 523 million pounds.</p>

<p>India, while ranked fourth in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) into London, created 5,310 jobs – ahead of second-ranked Germany with 1,911 jobs and third-ranked Australia with 1,526 jobs. The US was the top-ranked country with 183 projects in the past decade, creating 11,074 jobs in the UK.</p>

<p>"Today's figures offer further proof that London is a fantastic place to grow and scale an international technology business. <p>Queen Elizabeth said Britain and the United States had built post-war international institutions for "nations working together to safeguard a hard-won peace".</p>

<p>The monarch said the two nations were united by their security, shared heritage, strong cultural links and strong economic ties.</p>

<p>But the day began with controversy as, even before his plane touched down, the president lambasted Khan, who on Sunday revived their spat by comparing Trump to 20th-century fascists.</p>

<p>Trump, in return, called him a "stone cold loser" who had done a "terrible job" as London mayor.</p>

<p>Eight members of the Trump dynasty were at the state banquet, with the four eldest of Trump's five children joining 16 members of the royal family and business chiefs at the U-shaped table.</p>

<p>They dined on steamed fillet of halibut followed by saddle of new season Windsor lamb, strawberry sable with lemon verbena cream and fresh fruit.</p>

<p>London Mayor Sadiq Khan also warned Sunday that protests were starting to overstretch the police and limiting their ability to respond to daily crime.</p>

<p>"It simply isn’t right to put Londoners’ safety at risk like this," Khan said.</p>

<p>Extinction Rebellion organisers retreated by Monday to Marble Arch -- a monument on the edge of Hyde Park that allows limited protests to continue without disrupting traffic.</p>

<p>About 100 activists also lay day down under the gigantic skeleton of a blue whale hanging from the ceiling of the main hall of London's Natural History Museum for a self-described "die-in".</p>

<p>The police said they had made 1,065 arrests and charged 53 people since the first protests took over a bridge and renowned London intersections such as Piccadilly and Oxford Circus.</p>

<p>"We remain in frequent contact with the organisers to ensure that the serious disruption to Londoners is brought to a close as soon as possible and that only lawful and peaceful protests continue," a police statement said.</p>

<p>Some organisers want to engage in formal talks with the London mayor and the UK government.</p>

<p>The group's list of demands includes a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to a net level of zero by 2025 and a halt to biodiversity loss.</p>

<p>It also wants the UK government to "create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice".</p>

<p>But it said Monday that strategic issues were still under discussion -- and that it may yet decide to resume the street blockades.</p>

<p>"A proposal has been circulated for entering a 'negotiations' phase," a statement said.</p>

<p>"Despite being presented otherwise in the media, this idea remains only a proposal," it added.</p>

<p>"Where we go with Phase Two is up to us."</p>

<p>The candidate selected by Britain's ruling Conservative Party to contest against London Mayor Sadiq Khan in the 2020 mayoral elections on Wednesday came under fire for the views he expressed 13 years ago about Hindus and Muslims.</p>

<p>Shaun Bailey had written a pamphlet for the Centre for Policy Studies back in 2005 in which he lamented Hindu and Muslim influences on the cultural landscape of Britain.</p>

<p>"You bring your children to school and they learn far more about Diwali than Christmas," he wrote in the pamphlet titled 'No Man's Land'.</p>

<p>Bailey, a member of the London Assembly, also seemed to be confused about the difference between Hindu with Hindi in the controversial document he had put together as a researcher with the London-based think tank.</p>

<p>"I speak to the people who are from Brent [north-west London] and they've been having Muslim and Hindi days off. What it does is rob Britain of its community. Without our community we slip into a crime-riddled cesspool," he wrote.</p>

<p>The central theme of the pamphlet seemed to reflect his views that Christianity was being sidelined in the UK as a result of multiculturalism.</p>

<p>"There are a lot of really good things about Britain as a place and British people as a body. But by removing the religion that British people generally take to, by removing the ethics that generally go with it, we've allowed people to come to Britain and bring their culture, their country and any problems they might have, with them," he wrote.</p>

<p>The MP, who is black, added: "Within the black community it is not such a bad thing because we've shared a religion and in many cases a language.</p>

<p>"It's far easier for black people to integrate. How we arrived here is different. If you talk to old black people, they will say they have been invited here by the Queen. They absolutely do not consider themselves refugees or immigrants."</p>

<p>The pamphlet has caused outrage among the Labour Party colleagues of Sadiq Khan, the first Asian of Pakistani-origin, with veteran Indian-origin MP Virendra Sharma calling on the Conservatives to withdraw Bailey's candidature for the 2020 local elections.</p>

<p>"It is appalling that in this day and age even the Tories can select a candidate for Mayor of London with views this outdated and objectionable.&nbsp;<br />
I don't see how Shaun Bailey can continue as candidate having written off the multiculturalism that makes London great," said Sharma, who is also co-chair of the Indo-British All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG).</p>

<p>The senior politician questioned Baliey's ability to be an ambassador for a diverse city like London and travel to countries like India, Pakistan or Indonesia to boost business for the British capital.</p>

<p>"Bailey seems to believe that celebrating Hindu and Muslim culture will 'rob Britain of its community' and we will 'slip into a crime-riddled cesspool'. The messages of my faith Hinduism are of tolerance, compassion, honesty and self-restraint, lessons that Mr Bailey would do well to learn," he said.</p>

<p>The Tell MAMA [Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks] organisation, which records Islamophobic hate incidents in the UK, also attacked the mayoral hopeful.</p>

<p>"We do not tolerate such views about Muslim and Hindu communities. Nor do we tolerate any hatred or racism directed towards any other community. We will raise this further," Tell MAMA said in a statement.</p>

<p>A spokesperson for Bailey dismissed the attacks, saying the politician had worked with diverse communities for over 20 years and was in tune with the challenges faced by black and minority ethnic (BAME) communities in the UK.</p>

<p>"Whether it is working with one of London's biggest Muslim communities in North Kensington or helping young people from all communities to fulfil their potential, Shaun has always championed diverse communities.</p>

<p>"Shaun has made it his life's work to help those from migrant and disadvantaged communities, and to suggest otherwise is ludicrous," the spokesperson said.</p>

<p>All roads led to Antilla in Mumbai on Sunday as Mukesh Ambani threw a grand party to welcome London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Some of Bollywood&rsquo;s biggest names came&nbsp;together to give Khan a warm welcome to India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from Mumbai, Khan would be visiting Delhi and Amritsar and then fly to Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi in Pakistan on his six-day tour to six cities.</p>

<p>As part of the Indian leg of the trade mission aimed at promoting new business links between India and London, the London mayor has a series of meetings planned with senior politicians, business leaders, regional leaders as well as Bollywood personalities.</p>

<p>His central message will be that the British capital remains open to Indian talent post-Brexit.</p>

<p>&quot;Following last year&#39;s EU referendum, it is far more important to get the message of London is open out far and wide and I will be taking that message to India and Pakistan,&quot; he said on the eve of his visit.</p>

<p>Khan would be taking the Jet Airways&#39; recently launched third direct London-Mumbai flight.</p>

London Mayor asks Trump to delete far-right retweets and apologise to British people

<p>London Mayor Sadiq Khan has reiterated that US President Donald Trump will not be given an elaborate state visit when he comes to the United Kingdom next year for a state visit.</p>

<p>&quot;State visits are different from a normal visit and at a time when the President of the USA has policies that many in our country disagree with, I am not sure it is appropriate for our government to roll out the red carpet,&quot; Khan told CNN in an interview.</p>

<p>Khan&#39;s comments come&nbsp;shortly after a <a href="http://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/i-havent-had-great-coverage-out-there-theresa-donald-trump-tells-pm-he-wants-a-better-reception-when-a3588891.html" target="_blank">leaked</a> conversation, first reported last Sunday,&nbsp;between Trump and British PM Theresa May, where Trump said he would &nbsp;not visit London unless&nbsp;his&nbsp;reception improved.</p>

<p>He said: &quot;I still want to come, but I&#39;m in no rush. So, if you can fix it for me, it would make things a lot easier.</p>

<p>&quot;When I know I&#39;m going to get a better reception, I&#39;ll come and not before.&quot;</p>

<p>The delay to Trump&#39;s visit comes amid concern that there will be mass protests against the President in the British capital. Earlier this year, over 1.8 million people signed a petition seeking to block Trump&#39;s UK trip over fears that it would &quot;cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.&quot;</p>

<p>Trump met with UK Prime Minister Theresa May at the G20 summit in Hamburg and told reporters he would be visiting London.</p>

<p>May&#39;s offer of a state visit was made during her visit to Washington in January, just days after Trump&#39;s inauguration. Khan, who is the first Muslim mayor of a western capital city, however, did not rule out a meeting with the US President.</p>

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has reiterated that US President Donald Trump will not be given an elaborate state visit when he comes to the United Kingdom next year for a state visit. "State visits are different from a normal visit and at a time when the President of the USA has policies that many in our country disagree with, I am not sure it is appropriate for our government to roll out the red carpet," Khan told CNN in an interview. Khan's comments come shortly after a leaked conversation, first reported last Sunday, between Trump and British PM Theresa May, where Trump said he would not visit London unless his reception improved. He said: "I still want to come, but I'm in no rush. So, if you can fix it for me, it would make things a lot easier. "When I know I'm going to get a better reception, I'll come and not before." The delay to Trump's visit comes amid concern that there will be mass protests against the President in the British capital. Earlier this year, over 1.8 million people signed a petition seeking to block Trump's UK trip over fears that it would "cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen." Trump had requested a gold-plated carriage ride with Queen Elizabeth II during his October visit. Obama had declined such a ride, but world leakers like Russia's Vladimir Putin, Mexican President Enrique Nieto and Chinese President Xi Jinping have taken such a ride. Trump met with UK Prime Minister Theresa May at the G20 summit in Hamburg and told reporters he would be visiting London. May's offer of a state visit was made during her visit to Washington in January, just days after Trump's inauguration. Khan, who is the first Muslim mayor of a western capital city, however, did not rule out a meeting with the US President. "If someone has views that I think can be changed I am ready to play my role. If you somehow think it is not possible to be a Muslim and a proud westerner I am happy to disabuse you of that idea, whether you are a reporter for CNN or Donald Trump," he said. <p>Police searched a number of residential properties in Birmingham on Thursday,&nbsp;a day after British-born Khalid Masood killed four people in central London in the worst attack on the capital since 2005.</p>

<p>Since the attack in London, police have raided a number of addresses across the city, arresting five men and two women on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.<a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/islamic-state-claims-london-terror-attack-13717"> Islamic State</a> has claimed responsibility for the attack.</p>

<p>Birmingham has been one of the hotbeds for British Islamists. According to a study by the Henry Jackson think tank earlier this month, 39 of 269 people convicted in Britain of terrorism offences from 1998 to 2015 came from the city.</p>

<p>There are over 213,000 Muslims in Birmingham, making up over a fifth of the population, according to the 2011 census, and there has been growing concern about divisions in the diverse city.</p>

<p>The car Masood used in Wednesday&#39;s attack had been hired from rental firm Enterprise&#39;s Spring Hill branch in Birmingham, suggesting he still had connections to the area.</p>

<p>In Luton, a former neighbour said she had minimal interactions with Masood and voiced regret for not being more vigilant towards Masood.</p>
