Oregon US elections 2024: Vice President Kamala Harris won the Oregon state on November 5 (Tuesday) and secured a total of eight electoral votes in the Electoral College.

Oregon is predominantly a blue state (Democratic), but not as strongly leaned as its neighbouring California and Washington. It is part though part of the Democratic-leaning West Coast and Kamala Harris being a Democrat is predicted to win comfortably from Oregon in 2024. 

Democrats have won Oregon in every presidential election since 1988, and have consistently done so by double digits starting in 2008.

Oregonians will have the chance to vote on key federal, statewide and local races during the Nov 5 national election, including contests for one of the most competitive seats in Congress, statewide races for the secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general and five significant statewide measures.

In Portland, voters will participate in a historic election, selecting a new mayor and 12 City Council members as the city ushers in a new form of city government.

Kamala Harris won the Oregon contest and secured the state’s 8 Electoral College votes. Harris won by 54.9 per cent votes in the state.

In 2020, Biden won Oregon with 57 per cent of the vote to Trump’s 40 per cent. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won Oregon with 52 per cent to Trump’s 41 per cent. 

In a reliably blue state in presidential elections, the Democratic Party controls the governor’s office and both chambers of the state Legislature.

Democratic Party has won two seats, while the Republican Party has won 1 seat out of the 3 races called in Oregon. The state has 6 of 435 US House seats. 

How Oregon Voted in Past Presidential Elections

Oregon has consistently voted for the Democratic candidate in presidential elections since 1988. 

2008: Barack Obama (Democrat) carried the state with 56.7 per cent, a significant victory over John McCain (Republican), who received 40.4 per cent.

2012: Barack Obama (Democrat) won Oregon with 54.2 per cent of the vote, easily defeating Mitt Romney (Republican).

2016: Hillary Clinton (Democrat) won Oregon with 50.1 per cent, while Donald Trump (Republican) secured 39.1 per cent of the vote. Third-party candidates garnered a relatively large portion of the votes in this election, with the Green Party’s Jill Stein and Libertarian Gary Johnson receiving notable support.

2020: Joe Biden (Democrat) won Oregon with 56.5 per cent of the vote, defeating Donald Trump (Republican).
