A powerful explosion struck a multi-storey building in Germany on Friday killing at least one person and injuring 11.
The explosion occurred at a residential building in Germany's Blankenburg city which reportedly is home to around 20,000 people.
According to a report by Reuters, police said they had found gas canisters and old war ammunition in one of the flats in the apartment building.
The flat was rented by a 78-year-old man, who was likely also the person killed in the explosion, which police believe was caused by a gas explosion.
According to a report by AFP, police have evacuated the five-storey building and a nearby kindergarten.
Police have also cordoned off the area and the traffic has been diverted.
A photo tweeted by police showed a five-storey communist-era residential block with smoke rising from blackened windows on the second floor.
