Police in the German state of Baden-Wuerttember said on Sunday (July 14) that a man killed himself and two others in an attack at a house in the village of Lautlingen. Baden-Wuerttemberg is a region in southwest Germany, near the borders with France and Switzerland.

Citing local media, a report by the news agency Reuters said that two women were severely injured in the attack that appears to stem from some domestic strife.

According to the police, the wider public was not at risk. Local media suggested that the attacker was a hunter. 

Police officials of the Reutlingen region shared that they received several reports of gunshots in the town shortly after 12.30 pm.

When the police officers arrived, they found three people dead at the scene "including the suspected perpetrator", Reutlingen police wrote on X.

Two others were injured in what appeared to be a family tragedy, they said.

Regional broadcaster SWR, citing security sources, said the gunman was a 63-year-old man who killed his mother and son and injured his wife and daughter.

The injured women were rushed to hospital by helicopter, the report added.
