Musk on Sunday launched an attack on the British diver who helped rescue the 12 Thai boys and their coach who were trapped in the cave, calling him a "pedo" (pedophile).

The chief executive of the tech giant offered to assist the rescue mission by providing a submarine. The request was turned down. Musk lashed out on Sunday, saying he would make a video proving that his “mini-sub” would have been successful

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, he wrote: "You know what, don’t bother showing the video. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it." He later deleted the tweet.

British diver Vern Unsworth, 63, was one of the instrumental members who helped in the rescue mission. CNN reports him as saying that Musk's submarine “wouldn’t have made the first 50 meters into the cave” calling the whole thing “just a PR stunt.”

Unsworth later also said that he may seek legal actions against Musk's comment.Unsworth told AFP: "If it's what I think it is yes."

The caver said he would make a decision when he flies back to the UK this week, but said the episode with Musk "ain't finished".

"This is the most brand-damaging thing Elon Musk has ever done,"Roger Kay, analyst with Endpoint Technologies Associates who follows the technology sector, told AFP.

Tesla shares skidded 2.75 percent to close at $310.10 following the latest controversy, adding to pressure on the electric automaker which has struggled to meet production targets for its Model 3, seen as crucial to its long-term viability.
