Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday launched an attack on the British diver who helped rescue the 12 Thai boys and their coach who were trapped in the cave, calling him a "pedophile".
The chief executive of the tech giant offered to assist the rescue mission by providing a submarine. The request was turned down. Musk lashed out on Sunday, saying he would make a video proving that his “mini-sub” would have been successful
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, he wrote: "You know what, don’t bother showing the video. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it."
He later deleted the tweet.
British diver Vern Unsworth, 63, was one of the instrumental members who helped in the rescue mission. CNN reports him as saying that Musk's submarine “wouldn’t have made the first 50 meters into the cave” calling the whole thing “just a PR stunt.”
Unsworth said the billionaire “was asked to leave very quickly” when he visited the cave, of which he shared a video footage on July 10.
The billionaire founder of SpaceX posted the footage taken at some point during the night (July 9-10) after delivering an experimental mini-submersible he said might be able to help in rescue efforts.
All 12 boys and their football coach, trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flooded Thai cave, were rescued on Tuesday.
The last group of the 12-member "Wild Boars" football team and their coach was brought out of the Tham Luang cave, near the border with Myanmar, on Tuesday night, safely ending a dangerous rescue and evoking international relief and joy.
Musk has repeatedly come under fire for his behavior on Twitter and for Tesla’s PR strategy, under which it aggressively attacks critics and journalists.
