Elon Musk’s Starlink on Thursday (Jun 25) announced that it will offer one month of free internet service to customers in Venezuela following two deadly earthquakes that resulted in devastation across the country. The company added that it is working to quickly deploy additional Starlink terminals to restore internet access in the worst-affected areas.
“For those impacted by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, Starlink is providing free service through July 25 to new and existing customers. We’re also working to rapidly deploy Starlink terminals and restore connectivity to the hardest-hit areas,” Starlink said in a statement on X.
The company added that it was applying credit to the accounts of existing active customers. It said that the customers who previously cancelled their service will also receive credits, enabling them to reactivate and get connected.
“If you are a new customer in the impacted areas and purchase a Starlink, please reach out to support after purchase to receive free service through July 25,” the statement added.
Twin earthquakes cause devastation
Two deadly earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude struck near Venezuela’s Caribbean coast on Wednesday (Jun 24), resulting in widespread destruction, damaging the main airport of the country and triggering fears of a much larger humanitarian crisis.
According to the health ministry, at least 235 people have been killed in the quakes. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to search for survivors through the rubble of collapsed buildings. Officials said at least one Italian citizen and one Portuguese citizen were among the dead.

The powerful quake has disrupted relief efforts, suggest reports. The airport in La Guaira, one of the main entry points for emergency aid, has been shut after suffering serious damage, complicating the movement of rescue teams and supplies.
Apart from Venezuela, quakes also struck Colombia, while tremors were also felt in parts of Brazil.
