Bus bomb kills eight passengers in Syria's Homs city: Report

A bomb blast in the Syrian city of Homs killed eight people and injured around 16 in a bus on Tuesday, media reports said.

The blast took place near al-Baath university, in the streets of Akrama neighbourhood - home to members of the Alawite minority to which President Bashar al-Assad belongs.

Most victims were university students, reports said.

"At least eight people died when a mini-bus exploded on the edge of the Akrama neighbourhood," the head of the Britain-based monitor, Rami Abdel Rahman, told AFP.

However, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet, reports further said.

Earlier, Islamic state had taken responsibility for a similar attack in Homs in May, where four people were killed and 32 were injured after a bomb was planted in a car.

Akrama has under attack many times this year itself. However, the deadliest one ever encountered was one which killed dozens of school children in October 2014.
